Life Jacket & Wake Vest Size Chart and Buyer's Guide

When searching for a wake vest that is right for you, consider size, type of vest and vest material. Wakeboarding vests should be easy to put on and comfortable to wear. New designs and materials mean wake vests are getting more comfortable and lower profile every year. Even if you do not require a Coast Guard Approved vest for your wake adventures, it's nice to keep your head above water and protect your core from impacts in the cable park!

How Do You Size a Wakeboard Vest?

One size does not fit all. Wake vests come in many sizes. Determine your correct wake vest size by measuring around the thickest part of your chest and checking the specific vest sizing chart. Since most wakeboard vests are form fitting be sure that men, women and children each have their own vests.

What Type of Wake Vest is Right for You?

US Coast Guard (USCG) Approved Vests

Federal regulations in the United States require that all passengers on a boat have a USCG approved life jacket. The vest must be in good serviceable condition and the appropriate size for the intended user.

Competition Vests or Comp Vests

These vests are lighter weight, super flexible and will float you but may not keep your head completely out of the water. Comp vests are not US Coast Guard approved. Use these if you are looking to stay warm and/or have some impact protection in the cable park or at your local winch spot.

Vest Materials

Almost all wake vests, USCG Approved or not, use some kind of neoprene construction. Neoprene vests are form fitting, soft, allow for mobility and stay warmer than traditional older all nylon style life vests.
