The 10 Best Wakeboards for 2021

2021 is finally here and with it comes a truckload of new wakeboards from top brands like Hyperlite, Ronix, Liquid Force, Connelly, Obrien, Slingshot and more! Let us tell you, it was worth the wait. With a continued push towards ultra-low swing weights, huge pop, and buttery smooth landings, the mixture of offerings still provide their own ride characteristics that allow for everyone to find their perfect fit. We’ve gone through the warehouse and selected some of the best wakeboards of 2021. What qualifies a board for this list you ask? We look for wakeboards that offer something unique when compared to the rest of the lineup – oh, and it also has to be really fun for us to ride as well.

While it’d be easy for us just to select our best sellers, that kinda feels like a cop out and doesn’t always tell the full story. This list gives us the opportunity to dive into the different shapes and talk about what sets them apart from the others. This is important to us because board selection is never one size fits all. How a wakeboard rides comes down to personal preference, where you’re at in your riding progression, and how YOU want your board to feel on the water. Whether you prioritize a fast on-water feel, massive vertical pop, a playful ride with softer flex, or an aggressive board that’s quick edge to edge - we’ve got something on this list for everyone. So without further ado, here is our breakdown of the best wakeboards of 2021.

Ronix RXT Wakeboard

The best wakeboards of 2021

For those that want the pinnacle of wakeboard tech and construction. Seriously, this board is basically a spaceship – so much so that Ronix won’t even tell us how they make it. Luckily, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that the RXT delivers one of the lightest, most responsive, and speedy rides on the market. Not only does this board offer extremely minimal swing weights, it ramps up the stiffness for explosive lift off the wake while maintaining incredibly soft landings. Don’t fear the pop though, as it’s consistent and controlled thanks to the continuous rocker.

We really like the RXT for riders that want a hard charging board that doesn’t sacrifice in any area. It doesn’t hurt that Ronix built in some extra durability to keep it riding like new for years to come either. Get it if you spend all your time riding behind the boat and want one of the most reactive rides that tracks well, has supercar speed, holds a hard edge into the wake, and who knows – might even send you to the moon.

Hyperlite Murray Wakeboard

The best wakeboards of 2021

One of Shaun Murray’s top priorities when designing his pro model boards is that it flat out works for everyone. It doesn’t matter if you’re popping up for the first time or hopping off the dock for a run in the pro tour. The Murray utilizes a wide, but simple, base design with a mellow center spine. This design keeps the speed high and landings as soft as can be. With the Murray, you’ll also find a very subtle 3-stage rocker and variable edge design. The variable edge design offers a mellow rolled edge between the feet for more forgiveness and a playful feel, then transitions to a sharper edge towards the tip and tail for greater edge hold into the wake.

While we can honestly say we think this board is great for anyone, if we had to narrow it down, we’d say it’s best for riders with solid board control that can use the variable edge design to maximize their fun on the water. It’s so versatile that you can take a mellow set full of surface tricks and soulful surf style carves, then turn things up by digging in with that sharp edge in the tail to take your tricks way out into the flats.

Hyperlite Maiden - Women's

The best women's wakeboards of 2021

As Raimi Rutledge’s signature model, with 10 World Cup titles and two World Championships, the Hyperlite Maiden has certainly proved its worth in competition. That’s not to say that this board doesn’t belong behind your boat on the weekends though. With tapered channels that line up with its fins and a women’s specific Satin Flex, it is designed for female riders looking for a locked-in feel that can hold a serious edge and carry a ton of speed into the wake. To keep the aggressive edge hold and speed in check, it utilizes a continuous rocker that makes takeoffs more predictable and a dual spine base that produces cushy landings and inspires confidence. A thin profile and reduced width in the tip and tail keep the weight low for help with spins and inverts.

Even though the Maiden was born for competition, we think it’d be the perfect match for female riders looking for a fast board that responds as quickly as you can provide inputs. Hyperlite did a great job matching explosive ride characteristics with the kind of predictability that keeps sketchiness low and progression high. Wrap it all up, and you have one of the best women’s wakeboards of 2021, plus it's one of the cheapest wakeboards on this list.

Slingshot Nomad

The best wakeboards of 2021

Big wakeboards need love too – and the Nomad is no exception! Offering sizes from 145cm to 160cm, these boards paved the way for the current big board revolution. What we find with the oversize design of the Nomad is that the additional width, belly size, and length offer bigger pop, less drag, and softer landings than its smaller counterparts. The increased surface area also allows for slower boat speeds and less tension on the line which reduces fatigue and increases confidence when learning new tricks. Split your time between the boat and cable? No problem, Slingshot builds this board with their bulletproof .7mm thick Ballistic Base and Slingshot Fusion Sidewalls for unmatched dampening and durability.

Sometimes crossover boards have issues with flex in the wrong areas, but we haven’t had any issues with the Nomad. By featuring their Atomic Wood Core, this board has the perfect amount of stiffness between the feet for solid pop, but still has that playful flex in the tip and tail to press your way through the park. Be sure to check this board out if you need one oversize ride to rule them all, whether you’re heading out on the boat with your friends, or lapping the park after work.

Connelly Dowdy

The best wakeboards of 2021

Featuring one of the most explosive 3-stage rocker designs in the game and an asymmetrical tip and tail, Mike Dowdy’s pro model begs to be ridden – and ridden hard for that matter. This board is for aggressive riders committed to their progression behind the boat. The low-density Pro Core with Torsion Tech and 12k carbon tape maximizes stiffness and reassures the rider there won’t be any energy lost when leaving the wake. A full spine in the base displaces water to keep the landings soft when you’re dropping out of the sky.

There are certainly more than a couple tricks out there that have only been landed on this board. It’s a testament to Dowdy’s dedication to progression, but we also don’t think the ride this board offers hurts either. Take a hard look at this wakeboard if you’re looking to take your tricks to new heights, and demand all the response you can get - we think you’ll be rewarded handsomely.

Ronix Quarter Til Midnight - Women's

The best wakeboards of 2021

The Ronix Quarter ‘Til Midnight is a do-it-all shape designed specifically for female riders looking for a board without compromise. The lightweight construction, grip and release channels, and soft landing features mean you can put this board right where you want it, whenever you want it there. The grip and release base channels allow for aggressive carving, while still allowing the rider to break it loose for surface spins and butters. The hybrid rocker uses a fast feeling continuous arc through the feet, and gets steeper at the tip and tail of bigger pop off the wake. All of these features add up to a universal ride that anyone can hop on and enjoy. Whether you’re a beginner or taking on new inverts, the Quarter ‘Til Midnight will put a smile on your face, and more tricks in your pocket.

Obrien Exclusive

The best wakeboards of 2021

As one of the most aggressive feeling boards on the market, the Obrien Exclusive is the perfect deck for confident riders that want to push the boundaries behind the boat and need a board that can keep up. Featuring an intricate channel system with a step down rail and inset fins, when you get on the gas, you can rest easy knowing that the edge will hold and you’ll generate insane amounts of speed all the way through the wake. Oh, and while we’re talking about wakes, this board has a true 3-stage rocker to give you a noticeable kick off the top, but still uses a tip-to-tail center spine in the base to make it feel like you’re landing on a pillow. The Exclusive’s wide belly and rolled edges between the feet also allow for a bit of forgiveness on landings and a loose skatey feel when you’re not on edge.

We love this board for it’s exciting ride characteristics that push riders to go faster, higher, and use all the features of the board to their advantage. While a beginner could certainly hop on this thing and have a good time, we think the Exclusive is one of the best wakeboards for intermediate to expert riders that have full control over their board and want that extra aggressive edge to take their riding to new heights – quite literally.

Ronix One Blackout

The best wakeboards of 2021

With more evolution than it’s seen in the past 14 years, Danny Harf’s pro model turns things up a notch for 2021 with the perfect mix of response, weight, 3-stage pop, and silly-soft landings. All of this in Blackout Technology, a construction so innovative that Ronix won’t even disclose the details. The One has similar flex and tech as Ronix’s RXT, but cranks it to 11 with an exaggerated rocker line that utilizes a later arc for instant, and unspeakable amounts of pop. It’s the perfect board for progressive riders looking to take any advantage possible to evolve their riding. We recommend it to anyone that’s been eyeing the RXT but demands a little bit more aggressive spirit from their board, and is willing to sacrifice some consistency off the wake in trade for an unparalleled vertical takeoff.

Liquid Force Remedy

The best wakeboards of 2021

Are you tired of the status quo and looking for a board that’s full of lightweight modern tech, next-level edge hold, and a 3-stage rocker that will kick you to unreasonable heights? Well, Liquid Force has the Remedy for you – no seriously, that’s what the board is called. As Harley Clifford’s pro model shape, this board packs a serious punch. A triple concave hull, edge channels, and razor-sharp rails add up to a ride that’s insanely quick edge-to-edge and won’t break free when pushing its limits. The thin profile keeps it light, but retains stiffness for greater response and energetic pop.

The Remedy is great for riders looking to explore the possibilities that come with such an aggressive shape. With its split tip design, quad fins, and triple concave base that flow into quad channel tips, you can build confidence knowing that you won’t outride the board while you progress. When comparing it to other pro models on the market, we also really like the fact that you can snag a feature-filled deck like this, and still keep a little extra change in your pocket - it’s one of the best wakeboards for the money.

Liquid Force ME Aero - Women's

The best women's wakeboards of 2021

One of the lightest and most aggressive female-specific boards on the market, the Liquid Force Me Aero promises the rider plenty of grip and rocket-like takeoffs. The technologically advanced Lightweight Divinycell CNC’d Aero Core provides unimaginably low weight but still maintains the perfect balance of strength, flex, rebound, and control. Carbon strips in the top sheet and base add to the stiffness this board offers as well. To aid with edge hold, the ME Aero uses low volume rails with a beveled edge, quad V tip channels, and molded-in quad fins. When you get this board on edge, it really bites and picks up speed through the top of the wake. The single to double concave base feature makes sure that you won’t have to worry about harsh landings either.

This wakeboard really suits the female rider who wants to move on from a beginner board and into something they can lay on edge and take charge of. It will afford you the confidence to dig into that extra grip and 3-stage pop without the fear of overly jarring or unforgiving landings. This board also offers a ton of durability, so you don’t have to worry too much about dinging your new investment. So go ahead and take some ME time – you deserve it.
