How To Service Fox & RockShox Forks

 

Fox Fork Service


Items Required

  • Large Flathead Screwdriver
  • 10 mm Socket
  • 15 mm Socket
  • Proprietary Fox Tools for Unseating Damper Rods
  • 2 mm Allen Wrench
  • Softblow Hammer
  • Graduated Cylinder
  • Fork Fluid
  • Seals (+ Installation Tool)
  • Isopropyl Alcohol
  • Rod
  • Slick Honey Grease

Consult manufacturer websites for all fluid and torque specs.

Steps To Service Your Fox Fork

  1. Use the 2 mm allen wrench to remove the rebound knob.

  2. Use the 10 mm socket to remove the foot nut and pressure washer.

  3. Use the 15 mm socket to remove the foot nut on the damper side.

  4. Thread on the speciality Fox tools.

  5. Use the softblow hammer to unseat the damper rods from the lowers.

  6. Remove the speciality Fox tools.

  7. Slide the lowers up and dump the fluid.

  8. Once properly drained, slide the lowers off the upper tube assembly. Set them aside so they continue draining.

  9. Use isopropyl alcohol and a clean rag to clean the upper tube assemblies of dirt and residual fluid.

  10. Place a rag over the edge of the seals on the Fox lowers. Use your flathead screwdriver to leverage old seals out of the lowers. Be careful to not scratch the inside of the lowers.

  11. Remove foam rings and prepare for cleaning.

  12. Using the rod, insert a clean rag into the lowers and clean out any residual fluid.

  13. Soak foam rings in appropriate fluid (consult ridefox.com).

  14. Use a rag and isopropyl alcohol to clean the outside of the new seals and inside of the lowers.

  15. Install new seals with seal installation tool, applying even pressure.

  16. Place soaked foam rings into lowers, directly under seals and flush with the inside of the lowers.

  17. Grease inside of seals with Slick Honey.

  18. Slide lowers back onto upper tube assembly, using a rotating pattern to help keep the lips of the seals from folding in under the lowers.

  19. Go to ridefox.com to find the proper oil level for your fork. Pour the proper amount of oil (per leg) through the bottom hole in the lowers.

  20. Install fresh pressure washers to the end of the damper rods and thread on the bottom foot nuts on both sides.

  21. Use sockets to reach manufacturer torque spec found on ridefox.com.

  22. Re-attach rebound knob using 2 mm allen wrech (hand tight).

  23. Clean lowers and upper tube assembly with isopropyl alcohol, re-install fox fork onto bike, and go ride!

Items Required

  • Large Flathead Screwdriver
  • 2.5 mm Allen Wrench
  • 5 mm Allen Wrench
  • Softblow Hammer
  • Graduated Cylinder
  • Fork Fluid
  • Seals (+ Installation Tool)
  • Isopropyl Alcohol
  • Rod
  • Slick Honey Grease

Steps To Service Your RockShox Fork

  1. Use the 2.5 mm allen wrench to remove the rebound knob.

  2. Use the 5 mm allen wrench to loosen foot nuts by about 3 turns.

  3. Use the softblow hammer and strike the foot nuts to unseat the damper rods from the lowers.

  4. Once unseated, remove the damper nuts and set aside.

  5. Slide the lowers up and dump the fluid.

  6. Once properly drained, slide the lowers off the upper tube assembly. Set them aside so they continue draining.

  7. Use isopropyl alcohol and a clean rag to clean the upper tube assemblies of dirt and residual fluid.

  8. Place a rag over the edge of the seals on the RockShox lowers. Use your flathead screwdriver to leverage old seals out of the lowers. Be careful to not scratch the inside of the lowers.

  18. Install fresh pressure washers to the end of the damper rods and thread on the bottom foot nuts on both sides.

  19. Use 5 mm allen wrench to reach manufacturer torque spec found on sram.com.

  20. Re-attach rebound knob using 2.5 mm allen wrech (hand tight).

  21. Clean lowers and upper tube assembly with isopropyl alcohol, re-install RockShox fork onto bike, and go ride!
