That combination has been largely missing in action until now, but the new Scarpa Alien RS Alpine Touring Ski Boots may actually change - or blow - your mind. By keeping the design intent of the Alien 1.0 but replacing the carbon cuff with one of Grilamid® LFT (Grilamid® reinforced with long fiber carbon strands) Scarpa has kept the weight of the Alien RS down to 890 grams in the 26.5/27 shell size, and maintained an admirable level of downhill performance. The Speed Cam Lock walk mode lever fastens the cuff when it goes into ski mode, so transitions are that much quicker and smoother. The Intuition Cross Fit Tour liner is light enough for big days but adds a level of comfort that rando race boots never seem to achieve. Don't look now, but the Holy Grail of touring boots may be within your grasp.
