Because lens quality isn’t really quality if it doesn’t last. You get 100% blockage of UV radiation to 400nm, exceeding US/EU norms (380nm).

Ray-Ban lenses undergo an advanced chemical hardening process, rather than a thermal hardening process, and withstand the Drop Ball Test – a 5/8 inch steel ball dropped onto the lens from a height of 50 inches – which makes the optical glass impact resistant even in their thinnest 1.80 mm lens.
