The Ortovox S1+ Avalanche Beacon is loaded with intuitive features like Smart-Antenna Technology™, Auto Scan and Navigator, all working in harmony to help you find and be found as fast as possible. Simply follow the device's instructions (it shows you what to do) and save a life. Don't head for the mountains without the S1+ from Ortovox.
360 Degree Real-Time Display – Illuminated display shows the victim's position in the avalanche and provides unmistakable action instructions. As soon as the person searching flips open the S1+ to initiate pinpoint search, the patented circular display displays the number of victims, distance to the victims, the direction to head, and previously flagged victims (in multiple burial scenarios).
Number of Antennas – 3
Maximum Range – 55m
Search Strip Width – 50m
Smart-AntennaTechnology™ – The integrated Smart-Antenna Technology™ analyzes the position of the beacon's antennas after an avalanche and automatically switches to the best transmission antenna. The result is almost double the range in the worst reception areas. Smart-Antenna Technology™ is compatible with all avalanche transceivers using the international standard 457kHz transmitter frequency.
Multiple-Victim Indictator – 4 Victims
Flagging Function – 4 or more victims
Auto Scan – Without pressing any buttons, flip open the S1+ and you are automatically in search mode. The rest is child's play - you simply follow the instructions on the display, and the device shows you what you need to do.
Overview – The S1+ Avalanche Beacon is the only transceiver that offers an overview of the entire burial situation. The relative position of buried victims is shown in the display. The clear display conveys a sense of control during the search, saves critical time during a rescue and enables a strategic search with several rescuers.
Navigator – A bearing line shows your own position, which is the basis for the optimal overview. Direction arrows and very precise distance information lead you as quickly as possible to your target.
Fine Search – The circular display shows you at a glance if you are getting closer to the signal or moving away from it. With a precise distance value you can very effectively determine the distance to the buried victim and limit the area to be probed.
Switchover – Equipped with the latest digital 3-antenna technology and a motion sensor, the transceiver will automatically revert to transmit mode in case of a secondary avalanche. If the transmitter registers no movement for more than 120 seconds while searching, it automatically switches back to transmission mode.
Transmission Capacity – Approx. 250 hours
(2) AAA Alkaline batteries micro 1.5V LR06
RECCO® Reflector Inside – RECCO® capability allows rescue professionals with the proper equipment to quickly find victims. This backup technology is used by patrollers and rescue teams worldwide, but is not a substitute for learning and training with your beacon. You will not be able to locate a RECCO® device using a 457kHz transceiver.
Update – Development is an ongoing process. To ensure that you can benefit from the latest findings in the field of avalanche technology, Ortovox has made the firmware of its 3+ and S1+ avalanche beacons upgradeable.
Beacons Require Training – Wearing an avalanche beacon is no guarantee of safety in avalanche terrain. We recommend that backcountry travelers take an AIARE Level One class or the equivalent, and practice the skills they learn there regularly with their partners.
