The 8 Best Camping Tents of 2022

By: Jen Streby: Camp Buyer | June 14, 2022

It’s not camping without a tent, right? The simple camping tent is one of the most iconic pieces of outdoor gear ever. A good tent is light enough to carry to your destination, big enough to fit your party and their gear comfortably, and sturdy enough to handle whatever mother nature throws at you. But there are nearly as many styles of tents as there are styles of campers. There are ultralight options for thru-hikers and backpackers. There are bigger options that can sleep whole families. And there are a few tents that strike a nice middle ground of versatility, up for anything. So it can be a little overwhelming to choose the best camping tents. Luckily we’ve done the legwork for you.

New This Year:

This list represents the best camping tents on the market today. Each one of them is a great option for folks looking to spend the night in the woods, but each also has its special strengths and weaknesses. So the goal is to find a tent that best matches your objectives. How far do you plan to carry this tent before you set it up and sleep in it? How many people do you usually camp with? What special features matter to you? Answer those questions for yourself, and then use this handy guide to find the tent that best matches your priorities.

The North Face Homestead Roomy 2P

As a general rule of thumb, most companies size their 2-person tents on the small side, forcing you to sleep in particularly close proximity to your compadre--not ideal if you're on a "bro trip." Luckily The North Face Homestead Roomy 2 Tent is revolutionizing the camp game, providing ample room for activities and spoon-free nights. The interior is decked out with amenities that range from storage pockets to gear lofts, to tech-ready entertainment stations. Start planning that next camping trip because The North Face Homestead Roomy 2 Tent is itchin' to make it memorable. The Roomy 2 is perfect for shorter trips where you’re not carrying the tent too far, and any adventure where a little extra camp space is at a premium.

Big Agnes Copper Spur HV UL Long 2P

This longtime staple ultralight tent just got a face lift with a sweet new redesign. Or maybe a wing lift? All sizes of the Copper Spur now come with sweet customization vestibule awnings. The dual door awnings on the Big Agnes Copper Spur HV UL Long 2-Person Tent make it look like a ladybug taking flight when both awnings are up (we like to think of this as the fun in the sun mode). But it still features the good old fashion single stake vestibule setup (batten down the hatches mode) or the mesh top exposed (starry night mode). Other than the new front porch options and a nifty new corner buckle system for easier setup, the Copper Spur is the same gem of ultralight toughness it's always been. This version is built a little longer than the standard tent for extra comfort and storage space.

Jen Streby

Hi! My name is Jen, and I grew up loving the outdoors, traveling to our family cabin every summer in Michigan where I got to spend time in lakes, rivers, and the woods. I grew apart from that as I traveled throughout the U.S. searching for what I call home until I moved to Utah in 2008 and became an avid backpacker and river rafter. From then on, it’s been a passion I seek out when the weather is a bit warmer here in the PNW.

I now call Washington home and have been here for 6 years. I started working for evo 2 days after my move up from Portland and have loved every minute of it. I’ve been a buyer for a couple of categories and then was tasked with bringing on our camp category several years ago. It’s been a wild ride and I’m stoked to be able to share my love for the outdoors with all our evo family.
