Exceptional in powder and more than capable on any firm surface you're likely to encounter in the backcountry, the eco-friendly Atomic Backland 109 Skis are re-imagined with a lower impact construction using more wood and less fiberglass and resin. Featuring a HRZN 3D tip for greater float and easy maneuvering on sketchy terrain, the Backland 109 delivers a lot of bang for the buck (and the weight).
Powder Rocker – 25% Tip Rocker / 55% Camber / 20% Tail Rocker
HRZN 3D Backland Tip – Backland’s lightweight HRZN 3D uses a thin, perforated material to create a ski with low swing weight.
Ultra Light Woodcore – Light Poplar and Caruba woods
Reduced Fiberglass and Resin – Life Cycle Assessment analysis showed Fiberglass and Resin contributed disproportionately to the skis carbon footprint; more wood and less fiberglass, resin and metal reduces carbon dioxide equivalent emissions by 26%
Hardwood Binding Reinforcement
Topsheet with More Recycled Material
Dura Cap Sidewall – Vertical underfoot with cap at the tips and tails
Atomic Base – High-density sintered bases that are fast in a variety of snow conditions and accept wax readily.
Base Edge Angle – 1.3˚
Side Edge Angle – 3˚
We recommend a brake width equal to or at most 15 mm wider than the ski waist width.

Backcountry skiers, meet your freedom machine. The ATK HY 13 Free Alpine Touring Ski Bindings deliver incredible downhill performance in a featherweight 675g package, shattering the traditional compromise between downhill power and uphill efficiency. Its ingenious design – an intuitive, easily adjustable toe piece, seamless transitions, and a unique negative walk mode with two heel raisers – transforms how you move through mountain terrain. These bindings promise total freedom in a single, meticulously engineered system that has your back from peak to parking lot.
Boot Compatibility – The Hy is compatible with most alpine skiing, ski mountaineering, and freeride boots. To ensure safe and high performance, the Anti Friction Device (AFD) slider on the toe piece must be adjusted with various sole types. To achieve this, ATK developed specific spacers that fit between the sliding section of the AFD and its underlying structure. These spacers ensure proper boot-to-binding contact while accounting for the sole's thickness.
Toe Elastic Travel – 18mm each side.
Heel Clamps – The heel clamps, inspired by the alpine system, offers a spectacular sense of control and precision.
Hy Brake System – The rear ski brake locks automatically when the heel piece is in walk mode. This means that when the real lever has been pushed fully forward the ski brake can be locked in position with a simple press of the rear paddle. When transitioning to ski mode, it seamlessly unlocks by pushing the rear lever backwards, ensuring hassle-free use.
Heel Elastic Travel – 7mm
Seamless Transitions – Switching between ascent and descent modes is effortless. Simply raise the toe arms for walking or rotate them forward and down for skiing. The intuitive design ensures reliable performance in all conditions with no needs for interchangeable parts.
Three Walking Modes | -18mm, +10mm, +34mm – For uphill efficiency, the Hy Free includes a unique “negative” walk mode that allows the boot heel to drop slightly below the toe level. This reduces strain and improves stride efficiency, especially for freeride boots with limited cuff mobility and during long flat approaches. The Hy also features two heel raisers for easier uphill progress, both activated with the pole.
Flat Skiing – In ski mode, the boot sits flat on the ski, eliminating the rear-front pin height differential typical of standard pin bindings. This design delivers an alpine-like feel and performance.
Boot Sole Length Adjustment – 25mm
Crampon Shim Included – Compatible with most ATK crampons
