Area Information

The Wallowas

The rugged and remote Wallowa Mountains rising from the plains of Eastern Oregon are an exceptional place for ski/split touring. These dramatic mountains hold great snow, steep lines, and impressive views. It is not uncommon to ski for days without seeing or hearing anyone else! Following certified IFMGA lead guide and executive director/avalanche forecaster for the Wallowa Avalanche Center Victor McNeil, we will explore the impressive alpine terrain using the Buck Creek Basecamp as our base. This trip is for strong and fit ski/split tourers who have experience in the backcountry and in powder. The snow in Wallowas in February tends to be light, dry, and abundent.

Testimonials
This was my first real trip into the backcountry and the bar could not have been set higher. Cozy camp, great food and company, priceless knowledge and advise from pros, and of course, epic views and lines to kill for. The only downside was having to eventually go home. Best 4 days I've had in a long while.

Every time that I ski the Wallowas with Saveur the Journey I am reminded that we can have JAPOW like snow in OREGON. We make this an annual trip to get out in the backcountry and ski awesome lines in very interesting terrain. Staying on the mountain in a wood-heated yurt with awesome food everyday keeps us going for multi day trips!
