Bike the southern section of the Old Cascade Crest with the local experts at Trans Cascadia Excursions.

Exploring the south side of the Old Cascades Crest South begins on Browder Ridge, a forgotten ridgeline full of meadows, volcanic views, and hidden lakes. This is such an obscure place to ride, you’d never find yourself here, but when we bring you here you’ll see why we find Browder Ridge to be one of the best single ridges in the Willamette National Forest and one of the single best descents on Gate Creek, from ridge top right to our van.

The Old Cascade Crest trail system was a huge project during the summer of 2017 to uncover some of Oregon’s hidden trail gold. This region has been barely explored for the past 20 years, with very little use… and now it’s your turn to see what it’s all about.

Itinerary
  • 1
    Day number 1
    Arrive

Meet at Lava Lake Sno-Park, OR by 9:30am (please arrive 15 minutes early). Lava Lake is located about 4 miles west of Santiam Junction on Highway 20. Hop in the shuttle, where we’ll go over the plan for the day on the way to the trail.

    Day number 2
    Bike!

Part 1 of our ride leads us along the spectacular ridgeline on Browder Ridge. Sweeping views of volcanoes, alpine meadows, and lakes reward us as we climb, and our reward is one of the best descents in the area. Part 2, we’ll hop in the van and head right across the street and grab lunch out of our cars. From here, we have a 2 min shuttle ride to the start of our climb that will bring us up and over Crescent Mountain. This stout 2.5K climb is relentless, but juice worth squeezing. We’ll gather ourselves at the top with some incredible mountain top views before we get all of that climb back and more. We’ll descend Crescent Mountain North right into South Pyramid Creek, a massive 3500 ft decent with very little climbing and a huge payback for your efforts. We’ll wrap up our day with a beer in hand and stoke to last you til your next ride with us.

    Ascent: 4,553 ft
    Descent: 6,010 ft
    Distance: 18 miles

Testimonials
I don’t think I’ve ever posted a company review in my life but Trans Cascadia Excursions is deserving of all 5 stars. Nick and Jessi made our trip to Oakridge a fantastic 72 hours of riding. Not only did they provide top notch shuttles, but gave great trail recommendations, camping suggestions, and were super friendly and fun. I most definitely plan to return to Oakridge and recommend these guys to anyone looking for a guaranteed good time!

In summary - the best mountain biking excursion trip I have been on. Having hosted an annual mtn bike weekend for a school event of up to 50 pp., I understand the complexity and hard work in pulling this off (camping, shuttles, guiding, cooking, setup, cleanup, entertainment...). It is not easy and the Trans Cascadia team nailed it.
