Splitboarding A splitboard snowboard is built specifically for the backcountry rider. Splitboards are designed to break down into two separate halves for touring and uphill travel (with climbing skins). Special bindings are required as well. Once you've reached the top of the terrain feature, you reconnect your splitboard for the ride back downhill. However, it's important to note that you will need appropriate backcountry tools, knowledge of the backcountry, weather and snow conditions and climbing skins to safely take advantage of the freedom of a splitboard.

Stiff The amount a snowboard flexes varies significantly between boards. Snowboard flex ratings are not necessarily standardized across manufacturers, so the flex may vary from brand to brand. Many manufacturers will give a number rating ranging from 1-10, 1 being softest and 10 being stiffest. Here at evo we have standardized the manufacturers' number ratings to a feel rating ranging from soft to very stiff. Generally you will find flex ratings of 1-2 as soft, 3-5 as medium, 6-8 as stiff, and 9-10 as very stiff. Flex ratings and feel may ultimately vary from snowboard to snowboard.

Union Expedition Snowboard Bindings 2018
New for 17/18, the Union Expedition Snowboard Bindings are the result of a bomber inbound binding company taking their expertise into the splitboarding realm. Union went with a pin system, but placed the pin through the center of the baseplate to give maximum connectivity and response when you want to ride. The Expedition also gets a specific touring highback with a one-turn forward lean adjuster for quick transitions, making this an efficient and powerful new addition for your splitboard setup.

Tour Mode
Split Pin System – By combining the standard pin system with the Split System baseplate, Union increases the amount of connection between board and binding. Just one pin changes the mode and locks it into place.
Touring Mode – For touring, the binding slides into the climbing cradle and is locked into place with the pin

Riding Mode – For riding, the binding slides onto the baseplate which rotates over the center of the board. The pin slides the through the middle of the baseplate for maximum connection.

Duraflex ST SP1 Base – Once injected with Duraflex ST Nylon, SP1 Expedition base becomes an even stiffer, backcountry access machine. Developed and rigorously tested by non other than Travis Rice and Bryan Iguchi.
Synthetic EVA 3.0 Bushings – Shock absorbing synthetic bushings are durable and an outstanding compliment for the smooth, natural ride of the SP1 base.

3D Symmetric Ankle Straps – Direct Connect System locks you in with zero strap elasticity. The Multilayer Core inside provides supreme comfort, and confirms across the top of you foot.

Magnesium Ratchets – This Union exclusive process produces a material 4 times stronger than aluminum with only 1/2 the weight. Plus magnesium is easily recycled and remains the eighth most abundant element on the planet.

Symmetric Duraflex Highbacks – Designed specifically for touring, Expedition Highbacks feature an adjustable quick-snap forward lean adjuster that goes from tour to riding mode with the flick of your fingers.
Extruded 3D Aluminum Heelcups – The rigidity and strength of Extruded Aluminum acts like a roll cage on a race car - stiffening the entire chassis. The male/female connection with the base provides seamless response.

Compatibility
Quiver Compliant – If you have a quiver of decks (split and non-split) just mount the Union Split System disc on each one. You can swap the Expedition bindings between each board quickly and efficiently.
