It was only a matter of time before the old-school rippers on their 2nd or 3rd ACL reconstruction started dreaming of a powerful binding that would still release under typical back seat, off-axis loading – thus saving them from another surgery. The Tyrolia Protector Attack 13 MN Ski Bindings are Tyrolia's answer, a fusion of the tried-and-true Attack toepiece and an exciting new heelpiece with Full Heel Release functionality. The Protector FHR (Full Heel Release) heelpiece features full 180˚ release both vertically (forward) and laterally (twisting). Where traditional alpine heels release only vertically, this design rotates laterally 30˚ to either side to dramatically reduce friction in a "backseat" twisting fall. According to research by the University of Innsbruck it may reduce ACL strain by more than 50%, which sounds pretty great to us.
