Whistler, BC’s Journeyman Lodge Joins the evo Community

We’re stoked to announce that we’ve purchased the world-renowned Journeyman Lodge in Whistler, BC. Journeyman Lodge was hand-built by members of Whistler’s backcountry skiing community back in the 90s - and it’s been a dream destination for outdoor adventurers in search of deep powder ever since. With the addition of Journeyman Lodge, we’re excited to be able to offer our customers a truly immersive evo experience. And we’re fully committed to continuing the traditions that have made Journeyman such a special place for more than 20 years.

We acknowledge that Journeyman Lodge sits within the unceded shared territory of the Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish) Nation and the Lil̓wat7úl (Lil’wat) Nation. We recognize Indigenous sovereignty and commit to deepening our relationship to the land, its history and people.

We're Closer Than You Think

Located 90 minutes north of Vancouver and 25 minutes south of Whistler Village, Journeyman Lodge has long been a dream destination for backcountry enthusiasts in search of deep powder.

evo’s Whistler Connection

evo’s genesis occurred in Whistler in the late 90s and early 2000s. At the time, Bryce Phillips, Founder and CEO of evo, spent the better part of 7 years in Whistler, skiing and riding bikes as much as possible. He was able to chase winters and live the mountain lifestyle during these years with money he’d made by selling used ski and snowboard gear, which he had purchased in Whistler, out of his Seattle garage, on the sides of roads, eBay and later, evogear.com. Today, evo operates five stores in the Whistler area, a Canadian ecommerce site and a host of year-round evoTrips in spectacular Canadian locations.

About Christian Begin

Christian Begin will serve as evo’s General Manager for Journeyman Lodge. Christian has been professionally involved with skiing, snowboarding and mountain biking for more than 25 years. In 1987, he graduated from Humber College in Toronto with a diploma in ski area management and resort operation. In 1989, Christian moved from Quebec to British Columbia, where he began a career as a filmmaker specializing in ski, snowboard, and mountain biking films. In 1995, he directed, shot, and produced his first action ski documentary, Locomotion, a film that would become a cult classic and win Christian the “Best New Ski Filmmaker” award at Colorado’s Crested Butte International Film Festival. In 1998, his movie, Kranked, became the catalyst that introduced the British Columbia mountain bike freeriding scene to the world. In 2000, Christian co-founded Bella Coola Heli Sports, a heli-ski company headquartered in Whistler. Christian and Bryce first met in the late 90s and they’ve remained good friends ever since.

Callaghan Country Wilderness Adventures

Brad Sills is the President of Callaghan Country Wilderness Adventures, the company which formerly owned Journeyman Lodge. Having grown up in the Eastern Townships of Quebec, Brad was raised in a strong tradition of both Nordic and alpine skiing. Shortly after Brad found his way out to Whistler in 1974 he discovered telemark skiing, and immediately took to it. Brad and a small posse of Whistler locals began exploring the Coast Range and they eventually discovered that the adjacent Callaghan Valley offered some of the best skiing anywhere. Over the course of a 40-year career, which has included roles such as forest ranger, building contractor and ski-area operator, Brad has met a variety of dedicated skiers with a wide range of talents and skills. This group came to be known as the journeymen and they set about building Journeyman Lodge in the upper Callaghan Valley in the 90s.
