Take your pick from some of our favorite Summit & Park County MTB rides, from the more beginner-friendly Salt Lick Trail to the black diamond Peaks Trail and Gold Dust Trail.
Choose your adventure with these guided rides from Colorado Adventure Guides. Shuttle included!
Option 1, Peaks Trail: What a place to ride! Surrounded by National Forest the Peaks Trail between Breckenridge and Frisco, is one of the most well-known mountain biking trails in Summit County. This legendary stretch of mostly intermediate single-track connecting Breckenridge to Frisco is a popular trail for good reasons. Explore rolling forested trails with lots of rocks, roots, climbs, and some killer downhill. The trail is cut out of pine and aspen trees, and at times will include incredible views of the surrounding mountains. Instead of the typical out and back that has a butt kicking ascent from Frisco to Breckenridge we start with a shuttle to Breck for a stellar downhill route back to ride this legendary stretch.
Option 2, Gold Dust Trail: Breckenridge’s Secret Shuttle Ride! The Gold Dust Trail is a moderate trail typically ridden as an out and back trail. Parking typically makes this gem of a ride tough to access. However, no out an back or parking hassles for us, we are going to shuttle it! Starting on the "Old Boreas Pass Rail Road Grade" we will head to the trail and descend toward the historical mining town of Como. This is a fun, fast, rocky-at-times, furious descent with little of everything, an old flume, pine-needle forest bed, a rock garden and high-quality single-track. Throw in some excellent views of the South Park’s terrain from the top as well as gorgeous Aspens that are full of fall color.
Option 3, Salt Lick Trail: Right out the back door from CAG's office in Silverthorne, you can be riding minutes after your arrival. This series of trails pass through stands of lodgepole pine and aspen and you are greeted with amazing views of Lake Dillon, the Continental Divide the surrounding areas. The Salt Lick Trail System offers intermediate routes for more novice mountain bikers. What’s really cool? A couple of hot laps via shuttle! We'll load up the van and drive to the top of the Salt Lick and then ride plenty of rolling terrain. At the bottom we will meet our driver and do it all again. The end of the day will find us near one of our local breweries for the perfect end of ride refreshment.
Below is a list of required and recommended equipment for your adventure. Dressing properly and having the correct equipment will help Colorado Adventure Guides provide a safer and more fun experience for your group. Though we cannot control the weather, we can make sure that you are prepared for whatever conditions we encounter in this mountain environment. Remember, the weather can change quickly and drastically.
Our guides recommend wearing technical clothing on all higher level mountain bike rides, but it is never a bad idea regardless of activity or skill level. Technical clothing (polypro, merino wool, etc) is designed to help regulate body temperature and keep perspiration off of the skin. Not only is it safer, it dries faster, and is much more comfortable during exercise. When possible, please try to avoid wearing cotton like hoodies, denim jeans, cotton socks, etc.
Colorado Adventure Guides strives to be as environmentally conscious as possible. We strongly urge you to bring your own hydration system or Nalgene bottles and fill them before heading to the trailhead. This reduces plastic pollution and the chance of accidentally leaving litter behind. Plus, our water is fresh and delicious up here in Summit County!
