The northern location of these Lapland ski resorts means they are practically guaranteed to have snow for the whole season, and you’ll have plenty of opportunity to ride powder with temperatures sitting well below freezing.

Our journey begins in Gällivare located 100 kilometers north of the Arctic Circle in Swedish Lapland to ride the ski area of Dundret, home to snowboarding legends Ingemar Backman and Johan Olofsson

Travel north through Kiruna, Abisko and stay at Björkliden situated at the foot of the highest mountains in Sweden. After skiing and snowboarding, head up to the historic Låktatjåkko Mountain Lodge via snow cat to a lofty 4,000ft above sea level. The next day ride down and make your way to the iconic Riksgränsen, but not before visiting the local sled dogs.

Explore ‘Riks’ with a guest appearance from Ingemar, checking out his favorite spots including where he made his record breaking backside air. The afternoon après sessions are legendary at Riksgränsen and for those keen, there’s an optional heliski day into the Swedish backcountry.

The road trip heads further north across the border into Narvik, Norway. Here you’ll check out Narvikfjellet ski area which has one of Scandinavia’s largest vertical drops and boasts challenging off-piste riding along with incredible views across the fjords.

Area Information

Gällivare and Dundret

Founded in the seventeenth century, Gällivare is a place of historical significance for Sweden, and our first stop on our Nordic road trip. A town located 100km north of the Arctic Circle in Swedish Lapland, Gällivare has historically been a major iron ore mining town. Having hosted several World Cup skiing events, the town is also home to Dundret; a ski resort equipped with six ski lifts and a mixture of terrain, featuring trees, open pistes and parks. The ski season stretches from the start of November through until early May as a result of its high altitude and subarctic climate. There are outstanding views of the Laponia World Heritage Wilderness site, a magnificent display of high mountains, forests, and preserved wilderness. Home to the Sami people, Laponia is a culturally significant landscape which reflects the ancestral way of life of the indigenous peoples of Sweden.

Trip Planning

Early spring is one of the best moments to experience the Arctic Circle. The days are longer and with the extra hours of sunlight and rising temperatures, it’s the perfect season to spend more time outdoors. You can still expect to get regular snowfall, with temperatures rarely getting above 32 degrees Fahrenheit. Even if we don’t get fresh snow overnight, the cold temperatures and our local knowledge will ensure you’ll be able to ski and snowboard light dry snow.

Testimonials
Just got back after an EPIC Arctic Circle trip. What can I say? Still buzzing from the experience. Our guides Vesa and Markku are true legends. Our group was a 10 out of 10 and can not wait to do it all over again. If you want a trip to remember I suggest you consider this one! Seeing the lights 4 nights in a row was an experience like no other, just breathtaking.
