Ride more vertical, more terrain, and more powder snow than you’ve ever
imagined.

Step over the border into interior British Columbia and enjoy some of the best snow in North America. Experience a few stops on the powder highway as you join our friends at Mint Tours on this snowy Canadian adventure. Explore the slopes of Whitewater Ski Resort and Red Mountain, and make first-tracks down some of the best terrain of your life catskiing the Valhalla Range.

The Valhalla Range is a brand new cat-ski tenure nestled one valley over from Baldface. Their rugged neighbor features the same deep snow quality, with less established travel that lets you get back to nature. We’ve lined up a private snowcat just for our group, and you can be sure there’s plenty of untracked powder to go around with over 21,000 acres to roam. If you’ve been to Baldface before, you can expect the same good vibes and professional service that Baldface has offered for 20 years. Be one of the first to join us as we explore this awe-inspiring, high alpine terrain. Expect consistent fall-line descents with big mountain terrain features including chutes, cliffs, exposed lines, and just general gnar to take your riding to the next level!

We also check out two of our favorite BC ski areas; Red Mountain and Whitewater. These resorts play host to an enormous amount of freeride terrain with bowls, cliffs, pillows and tree runs all located in-bounds. Throughout the trip we stay in the town of Nelson, home to around 80 bars, restaurants and the legendary ski area of Whitewater. We stay downtown to live and breathe the Kootenay lifestyle with our homegrown guides and friends.

Please note: This trip is for advanced skiers and snowboarders

Itinerary
Itinerary
Itinerary begins and finishes in different locations; please select multi-city flights to arrive in Ravaniemi, Finland and depart from Narvik, Norway.
  • 1
    Day number 1
    Day 1: Arrival Day

The tour starts at the Spokane Airport. A driver will meet you and drive to the town of Nelson, nestled in the Selkirk Mountains along the West Arm of Kootenay Lake. Nelson is one of the coolest towns in BC with a great mountain culture, many craft breweries, restaurants, galleries and some legendary snowboard shops including Tribute. You’ll stay in Nelson for the entire tour. After checking into our hotel, we’ll host you at a local pub where our guides will run you through the tour, weather, equipment, and answer any questions you have.
  • 2
    Day number 2
    Day 2: Whitewater

After breakfast at the lodge, load up the van and drive to Whitewater for a warm-up day. This Kootenay mountain hideaway has some of the deepest, driest powder around and tends to milk more snow out of each storm than most places in the region. The terrain at Whitewater feels raw, almost like inbounds backcountry because of the mountain's unique topography and the resort's light touch on grooming. Expect steeps, top-to-bottom tree-runs and a local ski-hill vibe. Our head guide knows this place better than most as it’s his home mountain. After riding you can head back to the hotel, hit the hot tub, then it’s time to check out Nelson. We’ll head to the legendary snowboard store, Tribute and tick off a couple of Nelson’s craft breweries before dinner.
  • 3
    Day number 3
Day 3: Baldface Valhalla Catski Day

After breakfast, we depart Nelson and drive to the Baldface Valhalla staging area. At roughly 8:00am you'll meet your guide Hayden and learn what to expect for the day, which roughly translates into all time tree riding. At around 8:15 we'll load our private Mint cat and get on our way to the Valhalla tenure. We'll do a mountain safety training session and by 9:45 we'll be dropping into our first descent. You'll get a full day of epic mountain riding; the last run is called at 3:00pm. To keep everyone energized all day long you'll have a tasty lunch in the cat, and there's plenty of hand-made tasty snacks. After an epic day of riding we return to the shuttle. While we pass the time on the way back to the staging area, it's prime photo sharing time. We'll then drive back to Nelson and arrive around 5:30pm. In the evening, head out for dinner with your guides.
  • 4
    Day number 4
    Day 4: Whitewater

Today we will spend another day riding at Whitewater. Join your guides for a day on the hill, followed by a classic après session on the deck overlooking the resort and incredible Ymir peak. In the evening join your guides for a night out in Nelson.
  • 5
    Day number 5
    Day 5: Red Mountain

Today we will drive southwest of Nelson, and just North of the US-Canada border to ride at Red Mountain Resort. This B.C. resort is one of our long-time favorites for its light, dry snow, incredible steeps, and laid back friendly vibe. Riding at Red is also a great opportunity to get some cat ski runs under your belt that won’t break the bank! Red operates a snowcat to access the newly cut runs on Mt Kirkup that aren’t accessible by a chair lift. For just $10 a ride, you can access nearly 200 acres of gladed tree runs. We’ll have our local Red Mountain guides on-hand to show you all their secret spots. No trip to Red is complete without a post-shred beverage at the legendary on-mountain après spot, Rafters. Then we’ll make the short drive back to Nelson and head out for dinner.
  • 6
    Day number 6
Day 6: Baldface Valhalla Catski Day

After breakfast we depart Nelson for our second cat ski day at Baldface Valhalla. Today is our second and final day of epic shredding in the cat. The day runs similarly to the first day, however you can expect to start the first descent earlier around 9:00am and the last descent is called at 3:00pm. For our final night, head out into Nelson to celebrate after a huge week of riding some of the best terrain and pow in the world.

  • I am a beginner / intermediate / advanced level skier / snowboarder. Will there be terrain for me?
This tour is best suited to advanced snowboarders who can ride powder snow, can make a variety of turn shapes and can traverse and hold speed. If you’re not sure, reach out to us to make sure the trip is the right fit for you. Weather and ski conditions are impossible to predict so guests must be prepared to ride anything. If you have never ridden in powder or shy away from it at your local resort, this is not the tour to learn. Canadian terrain has lots of glades and trees – please be prepared to ride in the trees.
  • Baldface Valhalla Safety & Skill Level Requirements
Please read the below information to make sure this trip is right for you! SAFETY Wilderness skiing is not inherently safe and there are risks, dangers and hazards skiers must accept. Safety is our number one priority. Our guides strictly follow snowcat skiing industry standards for safety. All of our guides are ACMG, CAA, or CSGA certified and are wilderness first-aid caregivers. Once at the lodge, every guest will be given a transceiver and hands-on personal instruction on how to use it. We strongly urge our guests to listen carefully to their trained guides. Furthermore, all skiers are required to sign a comprehensive release of liability and waiver prior to participating in wilderness skiing with us. It is recommended that all skiers purchase travel or accident insurance. Your insurance broker can advise you as to what other types of insurance you may require, such as disability insurance and life insurance. REQUIRED SKILL LEVEL Baldface Valhalla’s terrain requires advanced to expert level powder skills in tight trees and variable natural snow conditions. Many of our runs feature technical entrances, with features such as pillows, drops and chutes. If you’re not sure, give us a call. The only way to guarantee the speed/ability levels of your group is to book an entire snowcat with like-minded friends. Guests will be riding up to 15,000 feet per day and need to be in good physical condition. Consider a conditioning program to prepare for your trip. If you are unable to keep up with the group you may be asked to sit out and will not be reimbursed for any missed time in the cat. Weather and ski conditions are impossible to predict so guests must be prepared to ride or ski anything. We do not groom any runs! If you have never boarded powder or shy away from it at your local resort, this is not the place to learn. Baldface terrain has lots of glades and trees – please be prepared to ride and ski in the trees! Alcohol or non-prescription drugs are not permitted while skiing or snowboarding. All participants must be 19 years of age or older.
