ITINERARY

Pre-Trip Check in

Check in at the Old Town Inn. Dinner tonight will be on your own. With over 50 restaurants and bars in Crested Butte, you'll have no shortage of options. Savor a slice of gourmet pizza at Secret Stash, or opt for a warm, homestyle meal at local favorites like The Slogar or The Breadery, known for their comfort food, seasonal salads and cozy atmosphere.

First Day In The Saddle

Our guides will meet you at the Inn at 8 AM to take care of any bike fittings and last-minute details. Today we’ll ride directly from town and get acquainted with the trails, bikes and high-altitude riding. There are plenty of options to make this ride longer or shorter as some folks may feel the high elevations. Panoramic views of Mt. Crested Butte and the surrounding Elk mountains will astound you and rolling terrain make this an excellent first day ride; the riding is challenging, but not too technical. Everything is within walking distance of your lodge.

Ride The Rockies

Today’s ride will be either Deer Creek or Teocalli Ridge. This ride ends near Gothic Mountain, which is a prominent peak you’ll see from town, and we’ll pass through the town of Gothic on our way back to town. Rocky Mountain Biological Institute sets up a summer research station here and it’s always interesting to see what they are studying. This is a classic Crested Butte ride with some challenging climbing sections and super fun single-track trail riding. The Rocky Mountains are spectacular in the summer, particularly for the wildflowers, and you’ll find yourself wanting to linger in the backcountry as long as you can each day.

Final Laps

Guides will pick you up at your lodge. Today’s ride will be determined by your guides and the group on day 2; options may include the 409 Trail, or possibly the 401 Trail from Schofield Pass, or Doctor Park. All of these rides are challenging, scenic and a great way to end the tour. Lunch today may be trailside or back in town after the ride. You will need to check out of your lodge today unless you make arrangements to stay on longer; we will arrange to hold your luggage at the lodge or store it in our van for the day. Our tour concludes early to mid-afternoon – thanks for riding with us!

The Old Town Inn makes a great home base for your Crested Butte adventures, wild or civilized. Conveniently located in historic Crested Butte (park your car and leave it there!), the inn offers hotel amenities with the personal feel of a bed-and- breakfast. Is my trip guaranteed to run?

No, please note there is a minimum number of guests required (4) for each departure to run. Please wait to make travel arrangements until you have received confirmation from Rim Tours or evoTrip.

I’m ready to book. What next? Can I pay a deposit only?

To secure your spot, you can either book online or contact Customer Care at 1.866.386.1590 to set up your booking. If you prefer to only pay the deposit of $200 per person, please call Customer Care to make payment. Full payment is due 60 days prior to departure.

What level of fitness, skill and experience is required for this trip?

This trip is designed for both intermediate and advanced riders. Participants should possess a solid foundation of experience and technical skills, to confidently navigate a variety of terrain and challenges. Be prepared for rough double track and some technical single-track, as well as undulating trails with moderate climbs and descents. Intermediate riders may choose to walk certain technical sections, while advanced riders can tackle more demanding features. Both levels exhibit good bike-handling skills and the ability to ride various terrain under different conditions, including muddy, dry, loose, and bedrock surfaces. What will my guides be like?

Our guides are passionate mountain bikers who have dedicated their lives to sharing the outdoors with others. They are Wilderness First Responders, chefs, bike mechanics and leaders. We are celebrating 40 years in 2025, and many of our guides have been with us for a substantial portion of that journey.

What are the accommodations like?

You’ll be staying 3 nights at the charming, centrally located Old Town Inn in Crested Butte. Most rooms have two queen-sized beds. Along with many other amenities, all rooms feature HD television with HBO, free wireless internet, mini-fridges, and daily housekeeping. Daily continental breakfast is included, and on-site amenities include outdoor hot tub, complimentary Wi-Fi, and fresh baked cookies in the afternoon.

Can my dietary restrictions be accommodated?

Yes! If you have any allergies or food restrictions, please inform us prior to your departure. Our guides are always prepared to accommodate dietary restrictions and coordinate substitute meals for allergies.

Can I choose my roommate?

Yes. If you have a roommate request, please let us know. By default, we will place two people of the same gender in a room with two beds.

What if I’m a solo traveler? Can I book a private room?

Yes, single rooms are available, on a first come, first served basis and are subject to availability. Please note an additional cost (known as a single supplement) of $300 will apply. Please check in with Customer Care before booking if this will determine your participation.

What gear should I bring? Should I bring my own bike, or can I rent one?

You will be sent a recommended packing list once you have booked. Bikes are not included in this trip, you can either bring your own or rent one from Rim Tours (see the rental bikes & pricing here: https://rimtours.com/extend-your-ride-rental-bikes/). If you are bringing your own bike, the guides will help you put it together, so you are ready to go on day 1.

Is there a minimum age required for this trip?

Yes, 12 years old (with mountain biking experience).

What is transportation like?

Rim Tours utilizes Ford E350 shuttle vans equipped with custom roof and hitch racks, ensuring a smooth and comfortable ride to the trailheads. Depending on trail conditions and the group’s skill level, there may even be a chance to enjoy a shuttle lap—because who doesn’t love a little bonus downhill?

What will the weather be like?

In July, Crested Butte, Colorado, enjoys mild summer weather due to its elevation of 8,909 feet. Average high temperatures are in the mid-70s°F (around 24°C), while average lows are in the high 30s°F (approximately 3°C). Precipitation averages about 1.99 inches (50.5 mm) for the month. Afternoon thunderstorms are common, often developing quickly, especially at higher elevations. Overall, July offers pleasant conditions for outdoor activities, with warm days and cool nights characteristic of Crested Butte's summer climate.

Should I tip my guides?

Yes, guide & driver gratuity is not included in your trip package and is recommended if you enjoyed your experience.

Should I purchase travel insurance?

YES! While it is not required, we always recommend purchasing travel insurance for all trips. Travel insurance allows you to seek reimbursement if you are forced to cancel your trip for unforeseeable reasons, or if you need to cover medical help, emergency transport, theft and/or accidental damage while traveling. We recommend World Nomads.

What if I need to change or cancel my trip?

evoTrip upholds Rim Tour's policies regarding cancellation. Rim Tours Standard Tour Cancellation policy: For Cancellations 61 days or more before the trip, deposit will be refunded minus a $50 Booking fee For Cancellations 60-31 days prior to departure, 50% refund will be given For Cancellations 30 days or less before departure, no refund will be given Disclaimer We do not make exceptions to the cancellation policy for any reason, including weather, wildfire, terrorism, civil unrest, epidemic, pandemic or personal emergencies. There is no refund for arriving late or leaving a trip early. We must adhere to our cancellation policy to protect our ability to run tours and to maintain our price structures. Please don’t ask us to make exceptions. We recommend purchasing travel insurance to protect your investment and researching plans that cover preexisting conditions and/or have a “Cancel for any Reason” clause. Rim Tours may cancel or reroute any tour in part or in whole due to acts of nature, trail conditions, insufficient number of participants, a force majeure that prohibits travel to or from a specific area, or other unforeseen circumstances that would hinder our ability to run a trip. Rim Tours will work with you to provide you with an alternate trip, though none of the reasons above except for insufficient number of participants would constitute a reason for any refund of monies paid. Rim Tours is not responsible for any additional expenses that may be incurred by a guest in relation to a cancelled or rerouted tour including costs incurred due to travel delays, flight cancellations, sickness and non-refundable air tickets and/or any penalties associated with such tickets. Trip Cancellation Rim Tours has a cancellation policy that we must abide by to protect our ability to continue offering trips, and to protect your tour in case others cancel. Unfortunately, cancellations do happen, sometimes within the period of time when we can’t offer a refund. In many of these instances, Trip Cancellation Insurance covers forfeited, non-refundable deposits or payments up to the limits purchased. Please consider protecting your investment! We often see last-minute cancellations due to illness or injury of the participant or a family member and all of this would be covered by trip insurance.
