Location Details

Also known as the Sacred Valley of the Incas or the Urubamba Valley, this valley is home to some of the most important Inca archaeological sites including Machu Picchu. Stretching from the Urubamba River, around 6,700 ft elevation, to the tops of massive Andean peaks such as Mount Veronica, 19,334 ft, the valley is known for its sweeping planes and steep mountain slopes. On this trip we will enjoy the mountains of the Sacred Valley by bike and stay in Cusco, Urubamba, and Ollantaytambo, the oldest continually inhabited town in all the Americas. This area is not only beautiful, it is also home to some of the best mountain biking in Peru.

As one of the 7 New Wonders of the World the archaeological site, with over 200 structures surrounded by steep cliffs and tall mountain peaks, is a spectacular step back into time. Built in the fifteenth century, the site was abandoned when the Inca Empire was conquered by the Spaniards in the sixteenth century and was not known to the outside world until 1911. Now sightseers can explore the site’s extensive trail and road system as they work their way around the rugged topography and agricultural terraces.

FAQs

No, please note there is a minimum number of guests required (2) for each departure to run. Please wait to make travel arrangements until you have received confirmation from Activexpedition.

I’m ready to book. What next?

To secure your spot, you can either book online or contact Customer Care at 1.866.386.1590 to set up your booking.

What skill/experience level is required for this trip?

This trip is suited for advanced riders. "Advanced" means you are comfortable riding a variety of singletrack which may include tight trees, mud, loose rocks and sand and are comfortable doing so on aggressive terrain with little braking. You can hop over obstacles such as small roots and rocks that less advanced riders may wheel lift over. You use the brakes sparingly, and are open to taking some air off little rocks and roots. Your timing and coordination on all types of berms is solid. You are comfortable leaning your bike through the corner and exit with acceleration. The trails are mostly blue, and a few are black, with a mix of dirt, rocks, grass and gravel. There will always be transport support close to the trails, and guides will be in contact with the driver by radio.

How fit do I need to be for the riding?

We recommend a fitness level 6 on a 9 point scale, with fitness level 6 defined as: You are capable of riding at a moderate pace for an average of 3-4 hours of pedal time each day. You can handle moderately steep climbs of up to a total of 1,650 vertical feet (500 m) in a day. You exercise on average 5 hours per week. Your exercise regime includes a combination of endurance training like riding a bike and strength training
