Mount Bachelor has year-round fun with some awesome downhill mountain bike trails at the ski and snowboard resort. The mountain bike trails at Mt. Bachelor have a great balance of tech and flow riding. Mount Bachelor is one of two ski resorts in Oregon to offer chairlift served mountain biking, in addition to Skibowl. There are two chair lifts that serve the mountain biking at Mt. bachelor, the shorter Sunshine Accelerator lift, which accesses easier trails like the FIrst Timer Line, and the Pine Marten Lift. The upper trails off of Pine Marten have everything from huge flowing berms to gnarly lava rock technical sections.

Last Chance
Advanced | 3.7 Miles | 1,821' descent

Last Chance is one of the longest downhill mountain bike trails at Mt. Bachelor, descending more than 1,800’ over 3.7 miles. There is definitely some pedaling spread out over the three sections, but still plenty of fast descending, too. Upper Last Chance is fairly technical, with lots of volcanic rock sections and rolling elevation changes. The middle section gets more smooth and fast, opening up the flow a bit. Lower Last Chance is only rated intermediate and rolls fast through the forest below the Cinder Cone.

Lava Flow
Intermediate | 3.6 Miles | 1,547' descent

Lava Flow is a fun, machine built, flowy downhill trail. It is broken up into three sections, Upper, Middle, and Lower. Upper Lava Flow offers some big and awesome berms with great flow. These sweeping turns descend down open lava rock slopes. There are some rollers that more advanced riders may take some airtime on, but flow and speed are the focus here. There are some more jumps once the trail descends into the trees, all of which can be aired or rolled. There are far too many berms to count on Lava Flow, making it flowy and fun for all intermediate and advanced mountain bikers.  
 

Rattlesnake & Blade runner
Advanced | 1.2 Miles | 771' descent

The Rattlesnake trail splits off of Upper Lava Flow for a tricky advanced ride that will keep riders on their toes with tight berms, drops, and some tech sections. Line choice is important on Rattlesnake with the technical sections. Some brick berms are high speed highlights. Rattlesnake leads into the intermediate rated Blade Runner trail, which is more flowy with dirt and brick berms. Blade Runner is also accessible from the Sunshine Accelerator Lift.
 

Rockfall
Expert | .84 Miles | 1,109' descent

Rockfall is the most difficult downhill mountain bike trail at Mt. Bachelor, with gnarly technical sections and big drops. The entire trail is steep, rocky, and challenging for even the best mountain bikers. The middle section has a bit more flow, with drops and berms, but still has plenty of lava rock. The flow doesn’t last long, however, as Rockfall drops steeply into the tight and twisty lower section. The very bottom rewards riders that survive the gnar with two fun and buff jumps.

Cone Run
Intermediate | 1.3 Miles | 424' Descent

The Cone Run trail cuts across Mount Bachelor from Lava Flow towards the Cinder Cone and Last Chance trail. The trail is wide and smooth as it rolls up and down over the length of the traverse. Cone Run isn’t a very technical, or difficult ride, but pumping and jumping through the features is still fun. The wood features add some fun, too.  
 

The Mount Bachelor Bike Park is accessed from the main base area of the ski and snowboard area. Driving, it take about 30 minutes to get to Mt. Bachelor from downtown Bend. It is possible to ride all the way to Bachelor from Bend, or to ride trails all the way back into town, through the Phil’s trail system.

Mount Bachelor Bike Park opens in the summer once the snow has melted off of the trails, and is open through the fall, when the snow returns. The trails can get pretty dusty in the summer, so be ready for duty and sandy section on the more exposed upper trails. Likewise, the lava rock on the upper trails shreds through skin, so ride with care and be prepared with long sleeves and body armor.
