I have worn a variety of Smith Optics for the better part of 15 years because they are simple the best! I love my Serpicos and am about to buy another pair, but as some have already mentioned when the glasses are collapsed the ends of the bows/ear pieces strike the lenses. It has caused some serious scratches on my current pair I and will be taking precausions with the next pair. Would be nice if Smith could come up with a modification.

I love quite a lot about these glasses. Having 20/15 vision, I'm fussy about optical quality of lenses and these are great. Fit and the look are also big pluses. One critical problem, however, is that the ends of the earpieces have rubbed major scratches on the insides of the lenses, making them unusable for anything other than loafing outside. My other quality glasses have a stop on the hinge that prevents this.

look great but ...

By

from Highlands Ranch, CO, USA

Comments about Smith Serpico Sunglasses:

I like the look, fit and comfort of these sunglasses but there is one big issue; when folded closed the arms scratch the lenses. Aside from the obvious problem that you end up with an area on the lenses with scratches, you have to be extremely careful in handling and storing them. I will be contacting the store where I bought them to see what Smith will do about this. Obviously a terrible design flaw. Really annoying.

Design flaw ruins great looking glasses

By

from Atlanta, GA, USA

Comments about Smith Serpico Sunglasses:

Love the look and polarized lenses - too bad the arms scratch the lenses! I have not found a way to prevent this. Makes the glasses sorta useless. I also have a lens that pops out constantly - my husband can pop it back in, but it pops out about 30% of the time I wear them. It is a shame that the beauty of these sunglasses is ruined by the poor design. I rated them low because it is a functional defect that prevents me from enjoying these sunglasses.

I love these glasses... too bad my lenses are ruined because of design flaw...

By

from Clovis, NM

Comments about Smith Serpico Sunglasses:

My husband gave me these glasses when we first started dating. I love them so much. I wear them daily. They are comfortable, light, do a great job at blocking the sun and I look darn good in them. The bad... My lenses are trashed. The arms have completely ruined them. I still wear them, but I wish that I could see out of them better. They need to come up with a new design so this doesn't happen. Overall though, my favorite glasses. Best I have had (even if I can't see out of them).

Love them!

By

from Philadelphia, PA, USA

Comments about Smith Serpico Sunglasses:

I love my serpicos but like other people have said my lenses are scratched due to the loose ear pieces being so loose i keep tightening but it only last for so long smith needs to redesign that specific problem then and only then will they be 100% awesome!! Right now though regardless of that problem I still give them an 9 out of 10 just for look and how well they protect my eyes.

worst best sunglasses ever!

By

from Bend, OR, USA

Comments about Smith Serpico Sunglasses:

i absolutely love my serpicos. unfortunately, if the bow-shaped frame (which is what makes them so awesome!) gets bent at all from its origin, the lenses pop out very easily. I was never able to bend the bow shaped frame back to its precise original shape, and therefore the lenses popped out all the time. Just this week, I was on a (leisurely street) bike ride and the lens decided to pop out while I was crossing a bridge, and it fell into the river. I just sent the sunglasses in to hopefully have that lens replaced and to have them bent back to precision. fingers crossed that smith takes care of them!

Looks great, but delicate

By

from Bend, OR

Comments about Smith Serpico Sunglasses:

I had the Serpico in gold for a little over a year. They look great and I liked the lenses. The sun glasses are light weight and the frames are a little flimsy because of it. I had to routinely tighten the hinge screw so the arms didn't come into contact with the inside of the lens (and scratch the lens, which happened). Today the frames finally broke at the hinge from being sat on. My fault, I know, but disappointing nonetheless. When I bought the sunglasses they came with a cleaning cloth pouch for storage. It's not a rigid case, like I had with a previous pair of Smith shades. Had I bought a separate rigid case for storage, my Serpico's would still be intact.

These sunglasses are awesome. The fit is great, and the quality is definitely worth the price. I really enjoy having the wrap around style in conjunction with an aviator type of sunglasses.

great value

Comments about Smith Serpico Sunglasses:

I am a construction professional and wear my glasses fron sun up to sundown. I perchased my glasses in 2007, i am working on my 2nd pair. Mine don't have scratches from the earpieces because i leave them open on the dashboard when not in use, i have put them through everything imaginable (except my wife's purse) and they have held up beautifully. I only wish they were Z87 rated, they keep dust out of my eyes but i worry how they would take a heavy impact.

    Comments about Smith Serpico Sunglasses:

These are my everyday sunglasses. I love the way they fit and look. They go with everything. The only complaint I have about them is the case that they come with. When I want to store my sunglasses, the case is a soft bag that doesn't really offer any protection when I put them in my bag.

    Comments about Smith Serpico Sunglasses:

I love this unique wrap around aviator style. I havent had the problems i have read about with arms scratching inside of the lenses but they go from my head to the car built in holder, not a pocket or bag. I am buying my second pair in a different color!

    Light, Comfortable, Perfect Fit.

    By

    from Fremont, WI 54940, USA

    Comments about Smith Serpico Sunglasses:

I typically haven't rocked Aviator style glasses in the past, but these are now my go to shades. They are light, don't slip off your nose, and there is no behind the ear pinch, very comfortable to wear from sun up to sun down. Polarized lenses make a huge difference being on the boat all day, and it's cool how the lenses make it easy to see farther down into the water.

    Best Sunglasses Ever

    By

    from Ogden, UT, USA

    Comments about Smith Serpico Sunglasses:

I love these sunglasses. I won my first pair in a raffle and I was hooked! I now have 5 pair. I had seven, but one pair was stolen and someone decided to destroy one of my pairs on accident (keep your 4 year-old away from your Serpicos) and I plan to have more. I love the fit and the look of these glasses, and everyone knows that I'm a Serpico freak. Extremely happy with this product!!

Great sunglasses - stay in place.

    By

from Woodland Hills, Los Angeles, CA, USA

    Comments about Smith Serpico Sunglasses:

I love these sunglasses, I work at a school in Southern California and need sunglasses year round. I love the fit and that they stay in place while running. I too only have one problem with the glasses, when the arm is folded it rest on the lens and leaves a scratch that will not rub off. That is the only scratch on the glasses. But do love the product:).

Awesome looking glasses with great coverage but.....

    By

    from Philadelphia, PA, USA

    Comments about Smith Serpico Sunglasses:

This review is for the Serpico Pastrana Signature with the red arms. I have many pairs of sunglasses and like the look and feel of these even more then my sacred Italy made sunglasses from that brand that begins with P. The size is perfect for a med/large face and the lens wrap around the eyes and provide excellent coverage. My only complaint and it has been mentioned in other reviews is the micro scratches that you get inside the lenses from the tips rubbing them when the glasses are closed. I can live with the scratches because you can't see them while wearing however I would reccomend that future buyers be aware that this can happen so they can take precautions to prevent it. I keep an old polishing cloth inside the storage bag and when I put them away I wrap the tips in the cloth to prevent further damage.

    Nice Sunglasses Poor Design

    By

    from Undisclosed

    Comments about Smith Serpico Sunglasses:

These are nice sunglasses, but the ultimate failure is the hinge design. The hinge starts out ok, but after a few wears it loosens up, and is nearly impossible to get as tight as they were originally. This results in the sunglasses being scratched where the arms make contact with the lenses. There is no question of if this will happen, but when. This is a fairly common complaint about these sunglasses. It could be fixed with some kind of padding on the arms or a different hinge system.

    Great for work!

    By

    Comments about Smith Serpico Sunglasses:

I work on ladders and other "up high" areas. These babies don't fall off and if i drop them (not the glasses fault 1st, 2nd dropped about 40 feet) they remain good as new. Well constructed and i cultivate the athoritative look of the "boss" in Cool Hand Luke! Cool and, surprise, DURABLE! Hope i haven't had a "failure to communicate" how rad these glasses are. Thanks Smith!

    great design, poor lens quality

    By

    from Belle Haven, VA

    Comments about Smith Serpico Sunglasses:

About a month after purchase I started noticing issues with the lenses. They had waves in them. I'm not sure if I just happened to purchase a faulty version of this product. Also I started noticing specks showing up on the outer lens which I have no idea why those started appearing. It is baffling that the lenses turned that way, especially for the price you pay for these, but I've not had any other issues with this product besides the lenses messing up on their own. I love the design, and for a cop it's a perfect and classic look. If you happen to be lucky and not get a pair that has faulty lenses, these glasses would be perfect for you. Also if you've got a full and round face or if you conduct traffic stops, these glasses are great. The design of these glasses demand authority!

    More colors please

    By

    from San Francisco, CA

    Comments about Smith Serpico Sunglasses:

I have owned 2 Serpicos now and I am very happy with them. I do have the same feedback as another user, which is that the arm scratches the inside of the lenses. One way to work around it is to tighten the screws at the hinges, but that only lasts for a while. The real solution would be to redesign the arms with rubber tips or some other solution. One more comment - the Serpico used to come in more colors. The 2 pairs I have owned had green lenses which were very cool and there used to be a purple color too. The current lineup is a bit bland. Is Smith planning to release new colors anytime soon?

Smith nailed it with this product!

    By

    from Michigan

    Comments about Smith Serpico Sunglasses:

What I particularly like about the Serpico is the lightness, comfort and solidness of the frame. Have used them throughout spring skiing and then throughout the summer without need of further adjustment, which is a real rarity the way I use equipment.

    Comments about Smith Serpico Sunglasses:

Great sunglasses have them in two colors! My only complaint is that the the ear pieces hit the lenses and scratches them up, so I have actually had to order multiples of my set :( The fit is perfect and the Smith brand in general has always been my go to.
