2025 Dynastar M-Free 108 Skis Review

Review Summary

Avg. Tester Rating: ★★★★☆ (4.25/5)

The 2025 Dynastar M-Free 108 skis offer exceptional versatility for modern skiers with a freeride focus. Engineered for advanced/expert skiers, these skis blend a playful demeanor with solid performance across a range of mountain conditions. Our testers have lauded the hybrid core construction, which combines dampening PU material with a robust wood core, offering a balance that enhances both agility and stability.

Brett Protheroe highlighted that these skis "instill a ton of confidence both in the steeps and while hitting features across the mountain," making them a top choice for freestyle enthusiasts seeking adaptability. Similarly, Nic Apodaca drew comparisons to favorites like the older Black Crows Atris, praising the M-Free 108 for its playfulness and control in soft snow, describing it as a "playful daily driver."

However, not all feedback was without reservations. Jonah Callister noted a challenge in controlling the skis at higher speeds, suggesting a possible adjustment period for some users. Despite this, the overall consensus was highly positive, with Tyler Lyons affirming their exceptional carving ability and light, surfy feel, especially after the model's recent design updates to shed weight and enhance rocker.

Overall, our testers agree that the Dynastar M-Free 108 skis are well-suited for skiers who enjoy a mixture of freeride and playful skiing across diverse terrains and conditions. They consistently deliver both fun and confidence, making them an excellent choice for the adventurous skier.

Playful daily driver.

"This ski is very similar to a ski I love, the Black Crows Atris (the older 108mm waist model). It's playful when it needs to be and offers a ton of control in soft snow, from an inch or two up to deep powder. It handles it's own on groomers and caters to a relaxed style. It's not exactly a ski for charging, but I would size up if you want that in this waist. Otherwise go for the wider M-Free models."

Something to get used to. Light and floaty.

"As a playful skier. I felt like these were almost a bit tough to keep in control. Like they wanted to go off on their own. I felt a bit off, at higher speeds and carving with these. I only got a couple runs on them, so I can't make a full judgement."

Playful and surfy

"I've skied and demoed the M-free 99 and 108 for a couple of years now and I've always been impressed with how well they carve for a ski with such a playful shape. The new M-free 108 still maintains that, even though it shed a little weight and added a little more rocker. The result an even more playful ski that's perfect for free ride oriented skiers. It'll float on soft snow, it'll smear and slash, it'll cruise through trees and bumps, and it will still surprise you when you lay over an edge on hard pack."

Pros

  • Versatility: Testers found these skis perform exceptionally well across a variety of conditions, from powder to groomed slopes, highlighting their adaptability for different skiing styles.

  • Playful Design: The skis are frequently praised for their playful nature, especially in soft snow and freeride situations, making them ideal for skiers who enjoy a fun, dynamic skiing experience.

  • Stability and Control: Despite their playful design, the skis offer remarkable stability and control, thanks to the hybrid construction that blends both poplar wood and polyurethane.

Cons

  • Colorful bases: While the colorful bases are certainly eyecatching and photograph amazing, they aren't ideal for ensuring sightly base repairs in the event you hit a rock or two.

  • Slightly heavier: Although the hybrid wood/polyurethane core provides incredible dampness, it also makes for a slightly heavier feel. If you're accustomed to lightweight skis, these might take some getting used to initially.

Who Is It For?

The 2025 Dynastar M-Free 108 is ideally suited for expert skiers who thrive on versatility and playfulness in their ski equipment. These skis excel in a variety of conditions, from powder to groomers, making them perfect for those who enjoy both freeride and all-mountain skiing with a playful approach. The hybrid construction offers a balance of lightness and strength, which appeals to skiers looking for stability without sacrificing agility.

However, these skis might not be the best fit for those who prefer a more aggressive, hard-charging style unless they opt for a larger size. They are also perhaps less suited for beginners due to their responsiveness and the skill required to manage their playful characteristics at higher speeds.
