Review Summary

Avg. Tester Rating: ☆☆☆☆☆ (3.5/5)

The 2024 Armada ARV 94 Skis offer a classic buttery feel that Armada is known for, making it easy to initiate turns and quick from edge to edge. The ski is praised for its adequate stability at speed and versatility on various terrains, including groomed snow and some untouched powder. It is described as a playful all-mountain ski suitable for both beginners and advanced riders. The ARV 94 is lightweight and maneuverable, making it ideal for freestyle and park features, too. While it may not be the most stable ski at high speeds, it provides sufficient edge hold for control and sharp turns. The ski's construction incorporates Armada's new w3Dgewall tech for increased strength and durability, ensuring it will last for seasons to come. Depending on personal preference, there is also a 100mm waist width option available for those seeking a little more playful float.

Technical Details

"Meet the jack-of-all-trades, master of fun. With a slightly softer flex than previous ARVs, the 94 is balanced to excel when buttering and pressing with plenty of stability and pop to confidently send it on the proline. The ultralight Caruba Core keeps weights low and is combined with an Ash binding insert and unique w3Dgewall construction to maximize durability and create a better performing, longer lasting ski."

Stiff and Responsive All-Mountain Ski

"The new ARV has a classic buttery feel Armada is known for. These are stiffer than I was expecting though! Easy turn initiation and really quick edge to edge. Definitely favor long radius turns. I'm 5ft 4in and 140-lbs, and would likely size up if I were buying them outright, but they were fine in the conditions of the day which was hardpack and some ice. I didn't have a chance to ride the 100 underfoot, but would likely pick that as a daily driver over this one for a little more playful float."

Fun All-Mountain Ski for Intermediate to Advanced Riders

"The ARV series underwent some structural changes with the advent of w3Dgewall tech to produce a stronger and longer-lasting ski, I was super stoked to try out the newly offered ARV 94. I'm 5ft 9in, about 160 lbs, and the 171cm size was the perfect length for me. The ski had adequate stability at speed, cruised through some untouched powder without any problems, and although I'm not a pro in the park, I hit some boxes for the fun of it and these skis felt great on park features. Plus, they are super lightweight and easy to maneuver. They didn't have as much pop and play as I look for in my dream daily driver, but they can take you anywhere on the mountain with ease, and thanks to w3Dgewall tech, they'll be super durable for seasons to come."

Butters anyone?

"Very poppy and playful skis that are super lightweight and flexible. If you are looking for a quality freestyle ski this is a great option. Due to its construction, it is not the most stable ski at speed out there but still has plenty of edge hold for you to feel in control and make sharp turns as you see fit. Skier weight will always play a factor in how playful the ski seems to you, but from my perspective (5ft 9in, 180-lbs and more of an all mountain skier) I am not sure how much more playfulness I require. Depending on the terrain you are planning to use this in, there is also the 100mm waisted option as well."

Fun, Versatile, and Easy to Ski

"Hopping on this ski first thing in the morning the first thing I noticed was how easy it was to ski. It has enough rise to initiate a turn easily but enough camber under foot to rail turns as well. I rode the ski on groomed snow but think the shape would lend well to riding medium amounts of fresh snow, but isn't quite wide enough to float through the deep stuff. This is a ski I'd recommend to someone looking for a playful all mountain ski. It's a good ski for both beginners and advanced riders as well."

Pros

  • Playful and buttery feel: The ARV 94 offers a classic buttery feel that Armada is known for, providing a playful and enjoyable riding experience.

  • Easy to maneuver: Riders found the ski to have great maneuverability and turn initiation to allow for quick and smooth transitions from edge to edge and easy handling in the park.

  • Versatility: The ARV 94 is praised for its versatility on various terrains, including groomed snow and some untouched powder. It is suitable for both beginners and advanced riders.

Cons

  • Stiffer than expected: Some reviewers found the ARV 94 to be stiffer than they anticipated, which may affect the ski's ability to provide a more playful and forgiving ride.

  • Limited stability at high speeds: While the ski offers good edge hold, it may not provide the highest level of stability at high speeds, making it less suitable for those seeking maximum speed and stability.

  • Limited float in deep powder: Although the ski performs well in medium amounts of fresh snow, it may not be wide enough to provide optimal float in deep powder conditions.

Who Is It For?

It is a versatile ski recommended for both beginners and advanced riders. Additionally, it is an attractive option for freestyle and park enthusiasts due to its lightweight, maneuverability, and positive feedback on park features. The ski's classic buttery feel, easy turn initiation, and quick edge-to-edge transitions make it appealing to skiers seeking a specific type of skiing experience. However, individual preferences and skiing styles should be considered when choosing the right ski.
