Experience Engelberg — Switzerland's legendary freeride paradise, home to the Big 5.

Engelberg is Switzerland's most celebrated freeride destination and evoTrip is taking you straight to the heart of it.

Spend six nights based at Ski Lodge Engelberg with daily breakfast and one group dinner, exploring some of the most sought-after off-piste terrain in the Alps. Your first three days tackle the legendary Big 5 — five iconic freeride descents (Laub, Steinberg, Sulz, Steintal, Galtiberg) all accessible from the lifts, with nearly 10,000 metres of total descent in a single day if you're feeling ambitious. Days four and five venture into the Secret 5 — lesser-known touring routes that take you deeper into the mountains with a short skin and descents most visitors never find.

Expert local guides lead every day, reading conditions and tailoring the route to the group. Small groups of maximum six to eight guests per guide keep it personal and keep you in the best snow. This trip is designed for strong intermediate to advanced skiers with some touring experience — expect to be challenged, and expect to be rewarded.

Plans may evolve with weather & guides' judgement, we strive to find the best conditions each day

ITINERARY

Optional Pre-Day 1 Arrival

Optional: You may choose to arrive at Zurich Airport the day before your trip begins and check into the hotel of your choice. You'll have time to relax and adjust to the time change before meeting up with the group the next morning.

Arrival

Touch down in Zurich make sure your flight arrives no later than 1:00 pm. You will meet your trip host at 2:00 pm, and make your way to Engelberg — just ninety minutes from the airport and a world away from everyday life.

Settle into Ski Lodge Engelberg, get your gear sorted, and meet your crew over a welcome dinner. Tomorrow the mountain is waiting, we'll get some rest to enjoy the mountain tomorrow!

Big 5, Run 1

Your first taste of Engelberg and it does not disappoint. Your guides lead the group into the freeride terrain above the Titlis lifts for an introduction to what makes this mountain legendary. Conditions and group level will shape the day, but expect long, open descents, untracked snow, and a very good reason to be back on the lifts first thing tomorrow. Breakfast at the lodge, après in the hot tub.

Exploring Deeper into the Big 5

Legs warmed up, confidence dialled in — today the guides push the group further into the Big 5. The Steinberg and Sulz routes open up a different side of the mountain entirely, with steeper terrain, bigger views, and the kind of descents that remind you why you booked this trip. Lunch on the mountain, long debrief at the bar.

More to see of The Big 5

The final chapter of the Big 5 — Steintal and Galtiberg. By now the group knows the mountain, trusts the guides, and is skiing the best of the week. Nearly 10,000 metres of total descent across the five runs over three days. Take a moment at the top of the last one to appreciate that. Then point it downhill.

Secret 5

The lifts are still there, but today the skins come out. Your guides lead the group away from the ski area boundary and into the quieter terrain of the surrounding valley — a short skin of up to an hour opening up descents that most visitors to Engelberg never see. Fewer tracks, better snow, and a deeper connection to the mountain. This is what touring is all about.

Secret 5, Day 2

One more day in the backcountry. Your guides choose the route based on conditions — expect a different character to yesterday, whether that's a longer approach, a steeper line, or a descent that drops you somewhere completely unexpected. By the time you ski back into town, you'll have a very different understanding of what Engelberg really holds.

Location Details

Engelberg is one of the great touring destinations in the Alps — and most visitors never see beyond the lifts. Sitting at the foot of Mount Titlis in central Switzerland, the valley and surrounding mountains hold an enormous amount of terrain beyond the ski area boundary, from short skin approaches to full glacier circuits. The same north-facing exposure and reliable snowpack that makes the freeride so good keeps the touring conditions exceptional well into spring. With expert local guides who know where the snow holds and where the lines go, you access a version of Engelberg that most people don't know exists.

Ski Lodge Engelberg is exactly what a freeride trip deserves — a welcoming base right in the heart of town with the mountain culture baked in. Individually decorated rooms, a lively bar and restaurant serving gourmet cuisine, a sauna and outdoor hot tub with views of the Engelberg valley, and a hearty breakfast every morning to fuel the day ahead. The vibe is social and rider/skier-first — the kind of place where the après flows naturally and the conversation at the bar is always about tomorrow's lines.

FAQs

Is my trip guaranteed to run?

Please note this trip has a minimum number of guests required in order to run. Please wait until you receive confirmation from the evoTrip team before finalizing travel arrangements.

I'm ready to book. What next?

To secure your spot, you can either pay the full amount now or contact Customer Care at 1.866.386.1590 if you prefer to only pay your $1,000 per person deposit. Note that regardless of paying full payment or deposit at time of booking, we will consider $1,000 to be a non-refundable deposit in accordance with our terms and conditions. Full payment is due 60 days prior to departure.

Can I choose my roommate?

Yes. If you have a roommate request, please let us know. By default, we will place two people of the same gender in a room with two beds.

What if I'm a solo traveler that would like a roommate but none are available?

If you are a solo traveler that would like a roommate, we do our best to pair you with another solo traveler of the same gender. However, if no roommate option is available and you must be assigned your own room, you will be asked to pay 50% of the single supplement to cover the cost of your room. In this case, since the single supplement fee is $450, you would need to pay $225. Please note roommates are paired on a first come, first served basis, so the earlier you book the less likely you will be "forced" into a single room!

Can I book a private room?

Yes. Single occupancy rooms may be available at an additional cost of $450. Please contact us if you are interested and note that single rooms are subject to availability, and will be assigned on a first come, first served basis.

How do I meet up with the group?

Arrive to the Zurich airport on Day 1 (start date) of your trip. If flying in on Day 1, please ensure your flight arrival is no later than 1:00 pm to meet your trip leaders and transfer to Ski Lodge Engelberg. If you would rather arrive a day early, and/or you cannot find a suitable flight that arrives by 1:00 pm on Day 1, you are welcome to do so - please note any pre-trip hotel is at your own expense.

What skill level is required for this trip?

This trip is for strong intermediate and above skiers and snowboarders with some ski touring or splitboarding experience. Participants should be comfortable with uphill travel for up to one hour and capable of completing multiple ascents in a day. Confidence on steep, off-piste, and variable terrain is essential — the Big 5 and Secret 5 routes demand it. If you're unsure whether your experience level is the right fit, feel free to reach out at [email protected] and we're happy to help you decide.

What is the maximum number of guests on each trip?

This trip will have a maximum of 12 guests.

Should I purchase travel insurance?

Yes! While it is not required, we always recommend purchasing travel insurance for all trips. Travel insurance allows you to seek reimbursement if you are forced to cancel your trip for unforeseeable reasons, or if you need to cover medical help, emergency transport, theft and/or accidental damage while traveling. We recommend World Nomads.

What if I need to change or cancel my trip?

If you need to cancel, the deposit for the trip is non-refundable and cancellations will be subject to a cancellation fee (see policy below). For this reason, we recommend purchasing travelers insurance, which will cover the cost of your trip in extenuating circumstances. All cancellations must be submitted to evo in writing, are effective as of the date we receive them according to our internal records, and will be subject to a cancellation fee as follows (amounts are per person and only apply to amount paid after the non-refundable deposit amount): Cancellation 90 days or more prior to trip departure - Non-Refundable Deposit. Cancellation between 60 and 89 days prior to trip departure - 50% of total booking cost. Cancellation less than 60 days prior to departure - 100% of total booking cost. Cancellation policy for custom trips may differ from these terms and will be communicated prior to booking. No refunds will be made if you voluntarily leave a trip for any reason after the trip has begun. The same applies if you leave a trip or cannot fully participate in a trip due to injury or illness. Refunds will be at the discretion of the Company if you are involuntarily forced to leave a trip for any reason. No refunds will be made for any accommodation, transport, sightseeing, meals or services not utilized.
