You can't argue against the fact that airbags can save lives, and when you're hunting the deep stuff in slide-prone zones, there is nothing better to have on your back. The Mammut Ride R.A.S. 22 L Airbag Pack (Cartridge Not Included) features the innovative Removable Airbag System (R.A.S.) from Snowpulse, which allows you to install the system in a different backpack to better suit specific applications, or so you can use the Ride 22 L backpack by itself. The pack features both ski and snowboard carriers, an easy-access avy gear pocket, a safety leg loop and an adjustable CONTACT V-frame constructed of 6 mm aluminum for a perfect, comfortable fit.

Airbag Functionality – The effectiveness of the airbag is based on the "Principle of Inverse Segregation." In an avalanche, smaller moving particles gravitate toward the bottom of the slide while larger ones rise to the surface. The inflated airbag allows the wearer to become one of the larger particles. When the release handle is pulled, the airbag inflates within 3 seconds, and the shape of the bag also protects the wearer's head and neck from impact.
