Whistler Blackcomb Ski, Camp, Hike & Backcountry Equipment Shop

At Excess Backcountry, the mountains are where we play, and we understand the difference quality gear makes. Back in 2007, when we opened Excess Backcountry in Whistler’s Crystal Lodge, our purpose was simple: create a place dedicated to providing great gear, rentals and expert gear advice for hiking, camping, skiing and splitboarding. We’re talking all backcountry, all the time.

Since then, we’ve grown to become Whistler’s premier local source for backcountry equipment, rentals, and expertise. As part of the Whistler Village Sports Group, a member of the national buyer Source for Sports, we can offer customers unbeatable product selection and unbeatable discounts year-round.

The brands we carry are carefully chosen for performance, durability and value; safety is always top of mind at Excess Backcountry. That’s why we also provide first aid and avalanche safety courses through the Pacific Alpine Institute; it’s part of our customer-first approach.

We couldn’t be the store we are today if not for our knowledgeable staff of experienced backcountry enthusiasts and experts. They don’t just oversee the day- to-day activities in the shop; they inspire. They educate. They welcome questions, provide informative assistance, and love what they do .

Whistler’s backcountry is rich with opportunity for one-in-a-lifetime experiences, and so whether you’re trying it out for the first time or the five-hundredth, we’re excited to help prepare you for the journey. We stay up-to-date on the latest backcountry equipment technology and trends, so you get the best services and selection for your needs .

Visit the store in Whistler’s Crystal Lodge, at the base of Whistler and Blackcomb gondolas, to chat with people who share a passion for the mountains, and the adventures that await you.

“We wanted to create a place where people could get great advice and the best gear for the adventures they love. We’re talking all backcountry, all the time.”
