2025 Atomic Maverick 105 CTI Skis Review

Review Summary

Avg. Tester Rating: ★★★★★ (4.75/5)

After thorough testing of the 2025 Atomic Maverick 105 CTI across a variety of conditions and terrains, our team of expert riders found this ski to be a versatile powerhouse, catering well to advanced and expert skiers who seek a dynamic ride. One tester highlighted its exceptional performance on groomers, appreciating how it lays over on edge with precision. Incredibly approachable and intuitive to ski, our reviewers recommend sizing down for a more nimble ride, or sizing up for enhanced off-piste stability and float. The HRZN tech in the tip and tail was lauded for the effortless turn initiation, while the carbon and titanal (CTI) construction provides a responsive feel underfoot.

Testers noted the improved stability and responsiveness thanks to the addition of carbon, making the Maverick 105 CTI feel at home on all mountain facets. It's described as a "jack of all trades," stable at speed and capable of handling anything from groomers to fluffy powder without falter. The versatility shines through as multiple testers found it to be an incredible daily driver, enjoying its agility and stability in a range of conditions.

Our team was particularly impressed with the ski's ability to transition between playful and powerful modes effortlessly. It's been pegged as a ski that's missing from the Atomic lineup, offering a titanal-infused ride that's balanced and confident, yet somehow still playful when you want it to be. Whether you're cruising with family or charging hard around the resort with buddies, the Maverick 105 CTI meets and exceeds expectations, debunking any notions of it being just a "dad ski."

In summary, the 2025 Atomic Maverick 105 CTI stands out as a top contender for those looking to push their limits on the mountain. It blends agility, stability, and versatility, making it an excellent choice for skiers who don't want to be limited by their gear. Our testers' experiences underscore its capability to handle a wide range of snow conditions and terrain, marking it as a must-try for the season.

Great Ski for Advanced Riders looking for a directional freeride ski

"The Maverick 105 CTI was a great all around charger that performed exceptionally well when laying it over on edge on groomers. At 5'10", the 178 felt like the right size for keeping things a bit more mellow and transitioning quickly from edge to edge. If I was riding this ski in more off-piste conditions, I would have sized up to the 185 instead to get a bit more stability and float. The HRZN tech in the tip and tail provided for a light swing weight in the nose and the carbon/titanal construction made them a bit heavier, but quite responsive when putting down the gas pedal."

This ski is great for intermediate to expert skiers.

"I like to ride all aspects of the mountain and this ski maximizes that. The previous generation Mavericks always felt a little to light especially on chopped up terrain. The addition of the carbon to this ski really makes it feel stable on all surfaces."

Awesome daily driver!

"Really impressed by the Maverick 105 CTI - one of those rare skis that has a high speed limit without sacrificing the fun factor. It feels powerful through the turn and composed in choppy snow, but the tail rocker keeps it loose enough that you never feel too locked in to one turn shape. It would make a versatile daily driver for advanced/expert skiers who like to explore off trail or hit trees and bumps. At 5'10, the 185cm length feels great!"

A great expert ski. Its light weight would lend itself to newer freeriders as well

"I was intrigued about this ski as I already have Backland 107 and a Benchetler 110. At 105 mm underfoot in fits the bill for Rocky Mountains daily driver. I was told to ski this on all kinds of different snow and I was able to link up several runs the really get a feel for it. I loved the agility on the groomers, stability on hard chalk, and the float on wind buff. I feel this is a great upgrade for the maverick line and really moves it into the Freeride category over previous versions. I loved the size at 178 as I prefer to play with the terrain versus smash through. I did not get a chance to ski it at 185 but would guess at that length its a bit more stable at high high speeds"

Versatile Big Mountain or Comp Ride

"This is the ski that's been missing from the Atomic lineup for a while - a Titanal-infused charger that's still playful when you want it to be, but ramps up and redlines with confidence when you point it. Extremely balanced performance with a big sweet spot, the 105 CTI is easy to ease into a turn or pivot to shut 'er down in a flash, but has the fortitude to line up steeps and airs in the same breath."

Definitely Not "Just a Dad Ski"

"I have to admit, I wasn't initially expecting to be enthralled with the Maverick 105 CTI but after spending time on it, I can assure you this is an incredible all-mountain, all-conditions ski! For reference, I am 6'0" and 180 lbs and elected for the 185cm length which felt perfect. Refreshed from previous years with a new HRZN 3D tip design that provides more surface area for better float and more stable, smoother performance in variable conditions, the Maverick 105 CTI meets you where you're at. Want to just cruise effortlessly with the fam? These ride like a Cadillac but can also initiate turns like a sports car when you want 'em to, no turn shapes feel off limits. Want to charge around the resort with the crew? These bad boys can definitely hang without any discernable speed limit or hesitation charging through pow, chunder, or trenching down hardpack groomers. At 105mm underfoot these are well suited for just about any snow conditions too. Long story short, if you're like me and writing off the Maverick 105 CTI as a mediocre "dad ski" don't be fooled!"

Jack of all trades

"This a great all-around choice for just about any condition! Stable at speed, holds an edge well on groomers, doesn't get kicked around in chunkier stuff, and has enough width for when things get fluffy."

Versatility in a Lightweight Powerful Package

"This is a versatile option that provides good stability and edge hold in a lighter package than a full metal ski. A good balance of flex and power, I found myself really leaning the 105 over on edge with confidence and not worrying about chatter or tip flap. Though it may be marketed more toward a freeride resort ski, I think it would make an exceptional backcountry charger as well. The 185cm felt intuitive under me at 6ft and 200lbs. The rockered tail keeps things just loose enough to feel highly maneuverable and not too locked-in, which I like. I would love to try out the Maverick 115 on a deep day, especially if it's anything like this one!"

Pros

  • Versatility: The Maverick 105 CTI shines across all mountain aspects, enabling skiers to enjoy stability at speed, excellent edge hold on groomers, and sufficient width for powder. This wide range of capabilities makes it an ideal choice for varied conditions.

  • Responsive Construction: The integration of carbon and titanal enhances the ski's responsiveness. Testers noted that these materials contribute to a powerful yet controllable ride, particularly appreciated in demanding off-piste conditions.

  • Playful yet Powerful: This model successfully bridges the gap between a playful ski and a powerful charger. The tail rocker and HRZN tech allow for quick pivots and ease in changing turn shapes, making it fun and dynamic underfoot.

Cons

  • Slightly Heavier Feel: Due to the titanal-infused construction, the ski can feel a bit heavier, which might not appeal to those who prefer a lighter ski for long days on the mountain.

  • Versatility: While extremely versatile, the Maverick 105 CTI may not fully satisfy those dedicated to specific styles such as deep powder skiing or pure carving, as it aims to balance attributes across disciplines rather than specializing.

Who Is It For?

The 2025 Atomic Maverick 105 CTI is best suited for advanced to expert skiers seeking a ski that excels in versatility, offering a dynamic ride across a wide range of mountain conditions. This ski is a prime choice for those who appreciate a blend of playfulness and power in their equipment, capable of delivering stability at speed, precise edge hold, and enough float for powder days. Its construction appeals to skiers who demand responsiveness and control, even in off-piste conditions, making it an excellent all-mountain choice.

However, its performance and characteristics suggest it may not be the best fit for beginners or those who prefer a ski with a more specialized focus, such as exclusively deep powder skiing or racing. The Maverick 105 CTI thrives in varied terrain, from groomers to backcountry explorations, making it ideal for skiers who love to tackle everything the mountain has to offer but might leave those seeking a niche ski wanting more. Whether charging hard or enjoying a leisurely day on the slopes, this ski's blend of agility, stability, and versatility makes it a standout choice for the adventurous skier.
