The Troy A is for riders who want a capable, no-compromise trail bike built to handle a wide range of terrain without asking them to give anything up. With 150mm of rear travel, a 160mm fork, and a 64-degree head tube angle, the Troy A sits in the sweet spot of the all-mountain category. Devinci's Split Pivot suspension design is central to that balance. The rear axle pivot separates acceleration and braking forces, which keeps the rear wheel active and tracking through rough sections without sacrificing pedaling efficiency. The collection spans three builds, all sharing the same Gen-5 Optimum G04 6061-T6 aluminum frame made at Devinci's factory in Chicoutimi, Quebec. Two builds run a mullet wheel setup (29" front, 27.5" rear) for a snappier, more playful feel, and one runs full 29" wheels for maximum rollover speed and momentum. A flip-chip on the rear end lets you run either wheel size on the same frame without compromising geometry, making this one of the more versatile platforms in the trail bike category. The Gen-5 Troy is a more capable, more modern bike than its predecessor, plus it's now built in Canada again after the Gen-4 was manufactured overseas.

Beyond the manufacturing change, the Gen-5 is a meaningful performance upgrade. Travel increases from 140mm rear / 150mm front on the Gen-4 to 150mm rear / 160mm front, pushing the Troy more decisively into all-mountain territory without losing its trail bike character. The head tube angle slackens by 1-1.5 degrees to 64 degrees, and the wheelbase is longer across all sizes. Size-specific chainstay lengths are new, ranging from 435mm on smaller sizes to 442mm on larger ones, improving handling balance across the size run. The SHED downtube storage compartment is also new for Gen-5, giving riders space to carry trail essentials without a frame bag or bulging jersey pocket. None of these features existed on the Gen-4.

The Troy A and the Spartan are both Canadian-made aluminum trail bikes from Devinci, but the Troy is the versatile all-mountain option, and the Spartan is the dedicated enduro bike.

The Spartan runs 170mm of rear travel and a 180mm fork, compared to the Troy's 150mm rear and 160mm fork. That extra travel is tuned for committed, high-consequence terrain where you need maximum suspension depth on the descents, like bike park laps and enduro races. The Spartan is also heavier, and while it climbs well thanks to its steep seat tube angle and efficient Split Pivot suspension, you feel the difference compared to the Troy on sustained pedaling days. Reviewers consistently describe the Spartan as a bike that rewards aggressive, committed riding and punishes hesitation.

The Troy A is the more versatile daily driver. It's lighter, more efficient on long climbs, and nimble enough to feel playful rather than planted on trail. The flip-chip wheel system lets you run either mullet or full 29" to suit your preference, something the Spartan doesn't offer. If your rides involve a mix of climbing and descending across varied terrain, the Troy A is the better fit for most days. The Troy A's flip-chip system is a design that lets you switch between a full 29" and a mullet wheel setup. Most bikes that claim mullet compatibility achieve it by simply cramming a smaller rear wheel into a frame designed for 29", which drops the bottom bracket, slackens the angles, and changes the handling in ways the frame wasn't designed for. Devinci took a different approach with the Gen-5 Troy. The flip-chip on the rear axle accounts for the difference in wheel diameter, so when you swap between a 27.5" rear and a 29" rear, the geometry stays consistent. Head angle, seat tube angle, and bottom bracket height all remain dialed regardless of which wheel size you run.

In practice, this means the two setups feel genuinely distinct rather than just different. Full 29" delivers more rollover speed, better momentum carry, and a slightly more planted feel on faster, open terrain. The mullet setup makes the bike snappier and more creative through techy terrain. Both the MX Eagle 90 LTD and the MX GX AXS builds come stock in the mullet configuration, while the Troy A 29 Eagle 90 runs full 29" from the factory. Any of the three can be switched over with a wheel swap and a flip of the chip, no new frame needed.
