The motor is the headline. The way the Zendit descends is the real story. 

It would be easy to make the Mondraker Zendit review all about the Avinox drive system. There is a lot to talk about: huge torque, 1,300 watts of peak power, and an 800Wh battery. After a couple of weeks on the Zendit RR S, what stuck with me was how often I wanted to keep riding it. The easy climb was just a bonus. I wanted another lap because the Zendit was super powerful and fun on the way down. 

That is the promise of the Mondraker Zendit. It is not just an e-bike that gets you to the top. It is a self-shuttle bike that makes the descent worth repeating. 

The Zendit is not for everyone, but for those it suits, it suits well. The ZENDIT is a big bike. The upfront cost is high, and the bike is designed specifically for getting up to ride down.  If your local trails are flowy and easy to access, the Zendit is probably more bike than you need. If your rides are built around steep climbs and rough, challenging descents, it starts to make a lot more sense.

Technical Details

The Zendit was designed around the Avinox M2S system. Mondraker did not squeeze a new motor into an existing frame and call it done, they designed the carbon chassis, updated ZERO suspension, and overall geometry to work with the motor, not against it. 

Travel is 170mm up front and 165mm at the rear, with mixed wheels as standard. A flip chip lets you run a 29-inch rear wheel without changing the key angles, but I stayed with the stock mullet setup for the whole test. 

The suspension is active and plush, but it still has enough support to keep the bike from feeling vague. That matters on an e-bike with this much speed and weight behind it.

Avinox M2S Drive System

The Avinox M2S delivers 130Nm of torque, up to 150Nm in Boost mode, and 1,300 watts of peak power. Those are big numbers and lots of power. The good news is that you do not have to use it all the time.  

There are five modes to choose from, and the Zendit features an integrated downtube display. Turbo quickly became my go-to road-climb setting. On technical singletrack it was usually too much, especially wcomesthe ground was loose. Trail mode was the sweet spot for technical climbing, while Eco was genuinely useful when I wanted to save battery or keep a little assistance on rolling terrain. The power modes feel different enough that each one has a job. During my rides, each mode served a unique purpose, and I used all of them at different points throughout the day. Th intuitive, hands-off display is also helpful. Seeing an exact battery percentage made it easier to decide whether I had one more lap rather than staring at a vague battery bar and hoping for the best. 

Sizing and Geometry

I am 6'4" and 200 pounds, and I rode a size Large. Because Mondraker uses split sizing, the Large felt closer to an extra-large from a lot of brands. There are  M, M/L, and L options available all within a similar height range. Even with my choice, I would probably add a slightly longer stem for my proportions. 

The stock 30mm stem never felt twitchy. The bike is long and slack enough that the front-end stayed calm at speed. Seated, you feel how big the bike is. Stand up and point it downhill, and the mixed-wheel setup and geometry feels like just the right size. 

The riding position felt centered. I was not hanging off the back or fighting to stay over the front. The 210mm dropper on the Large also gave me enough room, even though the shock tunnel initially made me wonder whether seat post insertion would be an issue. 

Build Kits

I rode the RR S build with a Fox Podium fork, Fox Float X Factory shock, and SRAM Maven Silver brakes. It is a serious build for a serious bike. 

The Podium Fork impressed me. It held a line like a downhill fork but did not beat up my hands through repeated chatter. This might be one of the best use cases for it: a bike where you still want a single crown, but you want the front end to feel as close to a downhill fork as possible. 

That said, I do not think the Zendit needs the Podium fork to do its thing. The RR build comes with a Fox 38 and still gives you the same frame, motor, and core suspension platform. For most riders, that is probably the sweet spot. 

The RR S is firmly in superbike territory. The parts are excellent, but price is still the biggest barrier to entry.

Test Bike Setup

I tested the ZENDIT on Pacific Northwest enduro terrain: road and technical trail climbs followed by steep, rough, loose descents. I rode everything from proper enduro trails to smoother jump and flow zones. 

Setup was fairly easy. The Podium and the shock tunnel make sag a little harder to see than on a conventional bike, but I started close to Mondraker's recommendations, added a little pressure for my weight and riding style, and found a good window quickly. 

I left the bike in the stock mixed-wheel setting and ran relatively little low-speed compression. Once it felt good, I stopped touching it.

Climbing

There is a learning curve when climbing on the Zendit. The Zendit is a big bike with a very powerful motor. Early on, it felt like it could get away from me if I was lazy with my line choice or too aggressive with the power. On loose climbs, the torque can break traction. On steep pitches, it can pull the front wheel up if you are not paying attention. 

I started climbing a little slower and more deliberately. I opened up my body through corners, looked farther ahead, and used Trail mode more often, instead of boost. Once I did that, the bike came together. 

On straight, chunky climbs, it was an absolute beast. The suspension kept the bike comfortable and composed while the motor carried momentum through sections I struggled to clean on a pedal bike. It did not feel like I had to muscle it through. It just kept moving. 

Tight switchbacks still remind you that the bike is long and big, and it can feel tight. Give it room, though, and it can cover ground unbelievably quickly.  

One climb that normally takes me around 45 minutes on a pedal bike took about eight minutes on the Zendit.

Range

The Zendit’s massive power range surprised me more than the power. 

Because I was not riding in Turbo all day, the 800Wh battery went a long way. In the terrain and modes I used, 4,500 to 5,000 feet of climbing felt realistic. On an analog bike, 

One day at Tiger Mountain, I kept stacking laps of my favorite descents. I got to the bottom of Predator with 20 percent left and realized I still had enough for more. Eco mode made that last decision easy. It asks you to work, but it sips the battery slowly and keeps the bike moving. 

I finished my day close to 4,800 feet of descending. That was the moment the self-shuttle idea really clicked. I had basically built myself a bike-park day without driving to the bike park. 

Descending 

The more time I spent descending on the Zendit, the better it felt. By the end of the test, I was dropping into complex and chunky lines I normally do not touch on my lower-travel trail bike. The geometry, suspension, and Maven brakes gave me the courage to approach bigger features, knowing my bike had the strength and power to support me and roll through with ease. 

The front end is especially good. I could drive the Podium into chunky sections without deflecting or absorbing all the energy with my arms. The rear suspension stayed plush and sorted itself out when I dropped into holes, caught big roots, or landed less cleanly than I wanted.  

Small-bump sensitivity is excellent for a full-power e-bike, and there is enough support deeper in the travel that the bike does not disappear underneath you. I felt a little feedback through the cranks and under braking in rough mid-stroke terrain, but it never defined the ride. 

Most of the time, the ZENDIT just felt calm. Composed. Like it wanted me to stop thinking about the bike and focus on the trail. 

Frame and Details 

The stealth air carbon frame is what separates the ZENDIT from a lot of other high-power e-bikes. It was specially engineered to optimize the Avinox Drive System. Beyond being lightweight, it is made to move seamlessly with the extra weight of the motor -that’s probably why it felt so good going downhill. 

Beyond frame construction, the two-tone paint looks incredible, the integration is clean, and the suspension layout feels like it was designed for riding well rather than built around a spec-sheet headline. If you deleted the motor and rode this as a park bike, the chassis would still make sense. 

There is some extra complexity around the links and shock tunnel that makes customization a feature and may require some experimentation, but the main hardware is accessible, and Mondraker uses sealed bearings throughout. I did not have the bike long enough to say anything meaningful about long-term service life, so that remains something to watch with long-term use. 

Overall Feel  

The Mondraker Zendit is a stable bike before it is a playful one. The wheelbase is long, the weight sits low, and there is some extra mass in the front end from the battery and Podium Fork. When you unweight the bike, you have to be deliberate with your body motions.  

The Zendiit rewards your effort to learn and adapt to its geometry. I could pop over roots, use little trail features, and set the bike down into the rough instead of plowing through everything. It never felt like a short, snappy mullet, but it was livelier than I expected. 

I also had fun on smoother jump and flow trails. It did not suddenly become a trail bike, but it did not feel like a dead downhill sled either. It always felt like a big bike. It was just a big bike that wanted to play.

Cons

  • RR S model has high upfront cost 
  • Long, heavy, and more specialized than a trail e-bike 
  • The motor can overwhelm traction until you learn to manage it 
  • Shock access and the linkage add setup complexity 

How Does It Compare?

The Santa Cruz Bullit is an obvious comparison. It is a proven, full-power e-bike that mixes serious descending ability with a more approachable build and everyday rider setup. The Zendit pushes farther toward steep climbing, steep descents, and self-shuttle days. The Zendit feels longer, more downhill-focused, and has more power in reserve when the climb opens up. 

A Specialized Turbo Levo or Transition Regulator may also make more sense if you want a more trail bike, analog feel, or you spend more time on swoopy, graded, or flow trails. The Zendit belongs with the smaller group of e-bikes where the descent is clearly the main event. 

The Avinox numbers are impressive, but a big motor only matters if the frame can do something worthwhile with it. The Zendit delivers power and all-around capability.

Who Is It For?

The Zendit is for gravity-focused riders who want to ride serious downhill trails without relying on a shuttle or driving all the way to a bike park. 

It makes the most sense somewhere with steep access, rough descents, and enough terrain to justify repeated laps. Full-face helmet. Big climbs. Rough trails. One more lap. 

If your riding is mostly smooth singletrack, or you want a light e-bike that feels quick everywhere, there are better options. This is not trying to be the bike for everyone. 

For the right rider, that is exactly the point.

The Bottom Line

The Mondraker Zendit RR S is a superbike. It has high-quality components, power, and the ability to fulfill its main purpose: riding hard and steep terrain as much as possible. It is too much bike for mellow terrain, and it is too expensive to ignore the value conversation. But it also delivers something rare - power and prowess. 

The Avinox M2S gets you uphill with ridiculous speed and enough range to build a full day around repeated descents. The frame and suspension make those descents worth repeating. 

The motor is the headline. 

The reason I did not want to give it back was the ride down.
