2027 CAPiTA Matriarch Snowboard Review

Reviewer: Tony Aadland, Snowboard Lead, Salt Lake City

"Tons of pop, really snappy, lively flex, really responsive and reactive."

The CAPiTA Matriarch is Torstein Horgmo's three-years-in-the-making answer to a genuine one-board quiver, a full-camber deck built to treat side hits, park jumps, and steep pow like it's all the same playground. evo's Tony took it for laps at Brighton and came back grinning about the pop alone. The new Transcend Core and Fairmat carbon amplifiers keep the chassis light without sacrificing the snap that makes this thing want to leave the ground.

Pros

  • Serious pop and a snappy, reactive flex that rewards an aggressive rider
  • Setback stance and 4mm of nose taper add real float in powder without giving up park manners
  • Balanced and predictable riding switch, even with the setback
  • Fast Hyperdrive ADV XT base keeps speed in reserve for booters and traverses
  • Genuinely versatile across groomers, park laps, and backcountry lines

Cons

  • Not the dampest ride out there — that snappy flex trades some smoothness on chattery or firm snow
  • The long camber profile demands an aggressive, confident rider, not one still building fundamentals

Who Is It For?

The Matriarch is built for advanced-expert riders who ride the whole mountain like it's a terrain park, exactly the Torstein Horgmo style it was designed around. If your riding leans freestyle but you still want a board that floats when the pow shows up, the setback stance and 4mm of nose taper are doing exactly that job. It's not the pick for anyone still finding their edges, either. That long camber profile wants some authority behind it before it starts feeling forgiving.
