2027 Burton Spellbinder Snowboard Review

"This board was extremely natural to ride. It wasn't overly aggressive, but it did hold an edge really, really well. It has a really nice, softer flex, but it wasn't chattery. That really surprised me."

New to Burton's lineup this season, the Burton Spellbinder Snowboard is a unisex directional board that makes learning to carve feel natural. A full directional PurePop Camber profile keeps camber underfoot and eases into flat-to-rocker zones at each end, with more rise in the nose than the tail, while a mellow 3mm of taper and a wider-than-typical waist keep things approachable instead of grabby. The verdict: a soft, predictable ride that holds an edge far better than its friendly price suggests.

Pros

  • Natural, predictable feel that clicks from the first run
  • Holds an edge well despite the soft flex
  • Stays smooth and chatter-free for a soft board
  • Mellow 3mm taper makes directional riding easy to learn
  • Friendly price point

Cons

  • Not built for park laps or big side hits
  • Toned-down build lacks the pop and energy of Burton's higher-end freeride boards like the Hometown Hero

Who Is It For?

The Spellbinder is built for a wide range of riders, from beginners who've just started linking turns to advanced riders who want a chill, no-fuss board for laps after work or a day out with the kids. It's an easy, predictable, flowy ride that never feels overpowering. It's not the board for park laps, big side hits, or anyone chasing a lively, aggressive feel.

I grew up riding the hills of Ontario. Now I'd say my riding style is full-on Park Rat or Backcountry Pow riding, no in-between. My perfect day is open to close on the park chair, or deep in the backcountry doing sled laps. I love a pow turn, but I might like a nice rail more.
