Ski and ride through the heart of the Japanese Alps and explore one of Japan’s untouched gems on this Myoko adventure. From the city lights of Tokyo, we will travel to the small village of Myoko which acts as a home base for four major ski resorts. Stay at the Kogakuro Hotel, home to indoor & outdoor onsen (mineral hot spring baths) and mere minutes' walk to the lifts of Akakura Onsen and Akakura Kanko. When your heart is content from skiing or snowboarding in one of the snowiest places in the world, explore the sleepy town, soak in the onsen and enjoy some delicious and authentic food. ITINERARY

Meet your group in the lobby of Hotel Nikko Narita at 11AM. As flights from North America arrive to Tokyo in late afternoon, you will need to book a pre-trip hotel night the day before Day 1 of your trip (please contact us if you would like to book this night at Hotel Nikko Narita). We will travel by private bus to Kogakuro Hotel, Myoko. Along the way, we will stop for some food at one of the many impressive Japanese B-kyū gourmet rest stops featuring regional cuisine made fast. We'll arrive into Myoko, check in, organize our gear for the week ahead and then head out for some dinner in the village.

Meet for breakfast to outline and get excited for the day ahead. For our first day of riding, we’ll head towards the resort that's received the most snow. You are welcome to stay in the group or explore on your own. We’ll identify a meeting spot for lunch and discuss the plan to return to the lodge. You’ll have time to relax in the lodge onsen and enjoy some downtime (or apres!) before a dinner in town.

Repeat! Get ready and meet in the lobby. This could be a great day to explore the tree runs at Akakura Onsen, just a three minute walk from the lodge. The adventurous can hike up to the summit from the top lift and enjoy an untouched snowfield. The resort even includes lunch with their lift tickets!

Depending on the weather and the group’s needs, we will likely take this or the following day to tour Nagano. We’ll eat breakfast and meet in the lobby early to board a private bus to Jigokudani Monkey Park. We will then feast on sushi delivered via conveyor belt before exploring Zenkoji Temple and returning to the lodge.

Following breakfast, we’ll head back to the hill, with your guides' recommendation informed by weather, conditions, and group preferences. If there has been a snowstorm in the north, we might head to the quaint, family-run Seki Onsen resort, or we may head to Lotte Arai for wide open bowls and the rare option to ski above the treeline.

Repeat! After our last day of riding, we get back and pack. You will have the option to ship your luggage directly to the airport form the lodge using the Black Cat service. After unwinding, we will head out for our farewell dinner in the village. If the group is up for it, we can even take over Myoko's tiny karaoke bar to celebrate our final night.

Eat breakfast, say goodbye to our friends at Kogakuro Hotel, and check out. As a group, we will take our private coach to Tokyo and check into our hotel. You’ll have the day and night to explore Tokyo. We will make loose plans and have recommendations for the group (more karaoke, anyone?).

Enjoy your last morning in Japan with a walk through Shibuya and Harajuku, where Japanese fashion will be on full display. Reserve your space on the airport limousine (which you can catch near the hotel) and prepare for your flight out of Narita or Haneda airport. Bid farewell to your trip leaders and new friends, and say cheers to an epic week! If you shipped luggage, you'll pick it up from the Black Cat service station in your terminal. Enjoy your last bowl of soba and a chair massage before heading home.

Location Details

With its rare beauty and unique culture, there’s no wonder why Myoko, Japan continues to be one of our favorite ski trips to Japan. Myoko is a quaint village located in the heart of the Japanese Alps and is a powder seeker’s dream. It’s hard to come by a place like Myoko where the snow falls hard and fast, leaving skiers with several feet of fresh powder by morning. In fact, year after year, it continues to be one of the snowiest places on Earth.

Since this small village is still fairly undiscovered, crowds are minimal. With both Akakura Onsen’s and Akakura Kanko’s lifts a few minutes walk from the Morino Lodge, and one of the main shuttle bus hubs right outside the front door, you've got easy access to all the resorts in the Myoko valley. Unlike Hakuba, Myoko consists of only two streets and has an intimate, peaceful atmosphere. Its roads contain only a few restaurants, bars and quirky shops, giving visitors a very authentic and traditional Japanese mountain experience that is often hard to come by in larger towns. This Japan ski package offers an atmosphere that makes it easy to slow down and enjoy the traditional and delicious food, the unique Japanese culture, and unwind after a big day on the hill with the good company that you meet. Check out all of ourJapan ski & snowboard trip packages to take a peek at other options.

Located in the picturesque village of Akakura Onsen in Myoko Kogen, Kogakuro Hotel offers an inviting mix of traditional Japanese charm and modern comfort. Just a short walk from the ski lifts, it’s perfectly positioned for guests looking to hit the slopes by day and relax in a cozy, authentic setting by night. The hotel caters to a variety of travelers with both Japanese-style rooms—featuring tatami floors and futon bedding—and Western-style accommodations, each outfitted with essential modern amenities like heating, flat-screen TVs, and Wi-Fi.

A standout feature of Kogakuro is its natural hot spring baths. Guests can soak in indoor or open-air onsen, easing sore muscles after a day of outdoor adventure. The hotel also provides daily breakfast with Japanese and Western options, and in the evenings, guests can enjoy beautifully prepared local dishes that showcase regional flavors.

The property includes thoughtful extras like a guest lounge with a fireplace, equipment storage and drying rooms for ski gear, laundry facilities, and a small gift shop. With its warm atmosphere, convenient access to the slopes, and genuine hospitality, Kogakuro makes a wonderful base for exploring Myoko’s natural beauty and rich culture—whether you're visiting in winter or beyond.

FAQs

Is my trip guranteed to run?

Yes, these trips are guaranteed to run. Please wait to make travel arrangements, such as booking flights, until you receive confirmation from evoTrip.

When and how do I meet up with the group?

You are responsible for booking your own travel and you must meet your group at Narita Airport outside Customs in Terminal 1 by 11AM on Sunday.

Can I choose my roommate?

Yes. If you have a roommate request, please let us know. By default, we will place two people of the same gender in a room with two beds.

Can I book a private room? Will there be a single supplement?

Yes, though single rooms are first come, first served and subject to availability. Please note an additional cost (known as a single supplement) of $1150 will apply. Please check in with Customer Care before booking if this will determine your participation.

What if I'm a solo traveler that would like a roommate but none are available?

If you are a solo traveler that would like a roommate, we do our best to pair you with another solo traveler of the same gender. However, if no roommate option is available and you must be assigned your own room, you will be asked to pay 50% of the single supplement to cover the cost of your room. In this case, as the single supplement is $1150, you would be liable for $575 extra. Please note roommates are paired on a first come, first served basis, so the earlier you book the less likely you will be "forced" into a single room.

I am a beginner / intermediate / advanced level of skier / snowboarder. Will there be terrain for me?

We recommend this trip for intermediate and above skiers and riders. More specifically, this tour is best suited to skiers and snowboarders who can link turns in powder snow, can make a variety of turn shapes and can traverse, hold speed and are adventurous when skiing and snowboarding the entire mountain. Familiarity with riding off-piste is highly beneficial on this trip. Please reach out to [email protected] if you have any questions about ability level.

What is included in this trip?

This trip includes: Transportation by private coach from Hotel Nikko Narita to Myoko and a from Myoko to Tokyo. Six nights stay at Kogakuro Hotel Myoko, one night stay at the Hilton in Shinjuku, Tokyo. Guiding as well as trip host support. All breakfasts and one group dinner. Four days of skiing at the surrounding resort of your choice (there are variety of resort options in both Myoko. While evo will typically suggest one for the group to visit based on the weather and terrain, you will have your own option each day). A tour through Nagano to visit the famous snow monkeys, tour Zenkoji temple, and a conveyor belt sushi lunch. Recommendations for food / drink and entertainment in Myoko and Tokyo.

What is NOT included in this trip?

Airfare – please note you must arrive at Narita Airport by 11AM on Day 1 of your trip start. Most lunches and dinners – we will provide recommendations and some of the ski resorts include lunch with their lift tickets, but any expenses will be out of pocket. Transportation from Tokyo to Narita (options include bus, train or taxi and cost approximately $35). Taxi rides or any transportation in Tokyo. We provide medical insurance for our travelers, but recommend that you purchase travel insurance as well to protect your flight and belongings. We recommend planning to spend $500-$600 on meals, drinks, entertainment and gifts.

What gear should I bring?

We will send out a comprehensive recommended gear list before your trip. Please let us know if you have any questions around recommended equipment.

Will we be able to wash our clothes?

Yes. Kogakuro Lodge has laundry facilities.

I am going to come early / stay longer; can I do something with my gear?

Japan has an incredible luggage delivery service (Black Cat) that you can take advantage of for about $50. If you arrive early, you can send your snow gear to the lodge from the airport. If you are staying longer, you can have your luggage delivered to the airport ahead of your arrival. We can give you all the information to coordinate this.

Can my dietary restrictions be accommodated?

Yes! For meals provided by the lodge/evo (breakfasts and one dinner), there will be options available. Gluten Free: It is difficult to avoid gluten in Japan, but it is possible. We recommend that you bring your own soy sauce and some snacks, as you will eat a lot of rice dishes. Being a vegetarian in Japan is easy. We will provide you with a card that will alert restaurants/grocers to your needs and most locations will be accommodating. Halal & Kosher while there are a limited number of Halal and Kosher restaurants in Japan, there will be many meal options available by avoiding meat. For all dietary restrictions, we recommend that you bring some snacks just in case.

Can I (or my partner) come even if I don’t ski or snowboard?

Yes. The primary activity on these trips is skiing/snowboarding; however, there may be options if you or your loved one does not currently participate. There are English-speaking ski schools in Myoko and you can sign up for lessons and rentals (we can help book this). For folks not interested in learning to ski / snowboard, we may be able to help coordinate other activities, such as visits to a spa, yoga or snow shoeing. The Morino Lodge has it's own private onsen, so it is a great place to relax and read if you just need to unwind.

I'm ready to book. What next?

To secure your spot, you can either pay the full amount now or contact Customer Care at 1.866.386.1590 if you prefer to only pay your $1,000 per person deposit. Note that regardless of paying full payment or deposit at time of booking, we will consider $1,000 to be a non-refundable deposit in accordance with our terms and conditions. Full payment is due 60 days prior to departure.

Should I purchase travel insurance?

YES! While it is not required, we always recommend purchasing travel insurance for all trips. Travel insurance allows you to seek reimbursement if you are forced to cancel your trip for unforeseeable reasons, or if you need to cover medical help, emergency transport, theft and/or accidental damage while traveling. We recommend World Nomads.

What if I need to change or cancel my trip?

If you cannot or no longer wish to join your scheduled trip, we offer the option to forward your deposit to a future evoTrip (at no cost) up to 60 days prior to departure date. However, if you need to cancel, the deposit for the trip ($1,000) is non-refundable and cancellations will be subject to a cancellation fee (see policy below). For this reason, we recommend purchasing travelers insurance, which will cover the cost of your trip in extenuating circumstances. All cancellations must be submitted to evo in writing, are effective as of the date we receive them according to our internal records, and will be subject to a cancellation fee as follows (amounts are per person and only apply to amount paid after the $1,000 non-refundable deposit amount): Cancellation 60 days or more prior to trip departure - Non-Refundable $1,000 Deposit charged. Cancellation between 30 and 59 days prior to trip departure - 50% of total booking cost charged. Cancellation less than 30 days prior to departure - 100% of total booking cost charged. Cancellation policy for custom trips may differ from these terms and will be communicated prior to booking. No refunds will be made if you voluntarily leave a trip for any reason after the trip has begun. The same applies if you leave a trip or cannot fully participate in a trip due to injury or illness. Refunds will be at the discretion of the Company if you are involuntarily forced to leave a trip for any reason. No refunds will be made for any accommodation, transport, sightseeing, meals or services not utilized.
