2027 Faction Dancer 79 Skis Review

"Once you get used to it, it's great carving. You can go from short, quick turns, edge to edge so fast because it's so narrow, to long turns, and it still stays stable."

The Faction Dancer 79 Skis ditch the metal-laced layup of past Dancers for a single lightweight poplar wood core, and the result is a lighter, softer, far more approachable carver built for skiers who spend most of their day on the groomers. A touch of early rise up front, Faction's Elliptical Sidecut, and XL 2.5mm edges let it roll onto edge with almost no effort and link everything from snappy edge-to-edge turns to long, drawn-out arcs. It won't win any top-speed contests, but for pure corduroy fun, this ski lives up to its name.

Pros

  • Lightweight poplar core tips onto edge easily and releases cleanly between turns
  • Quick and nimble in short turns, still composed through longer arcs
  • Softer tip eases you into the turn while the tail grabs and holds the arc
  • Forgiving enough to cruise and pivot, capable enough to carve at a good speed

Cons

  • Some tip chatter at high speeds without metal in the layup
  • A dedicated groomer tool, not built for trees, bumps, or alpine terrain

Who Is It For?

The Faction Dancer 79 is built for beginner to intermediate skiers who want an easy, playful ski for on-piste carving, with enough capability that stronger and advanced skiers can still hold a solid carve at a good clip. Faction pegs it for skiers who stick to groomed runs about 70% of the time and pick off a few soft side hits along the way. It's built as an on-piste ski, so it's not the pick for trees, moguls, or high alpine terrain, and skiers who prefer more aggressive, stable carving should look at the Ti option instead.
