2027 Burton Family Tree Full Nelson Snowboard Review

"Lots of power. Loves to carve, loves to charge and track the mountain. It's meant for those deep days, but it doesn't hold back on days like this one when there's no powder to be found. Still carves really well, holds an edge, stable at high speeds."

The 2027 Burton Family Tree Full Nelson Snowboard is built for the days when the resort gets buried and you want to point it uphill and stay there. Developed with the crew at Tribute Boardshop in Nelson, BC, it pairs a long, tapered nose with a mellowed-out sidecut shaped specifically for hunting pow through trees and blasting pillow lines. It's not a board that wakes up at low speed, but push it and you get serious edge hold and float in return.

Pros

  • Long, mellowed-out sidecut locks in serious edge hold and stability at speed for long, arcing carves
  • Directional camber with 6mm of nose taper delivers real float in deep snow without losing response in the trees
  • Plenty of tail to work with for a directional board, so you can still pop off lips or ride switch
  • Super Fly II 700G wood core keeps it light without giving up the pop and strength it needs to charge

Cons

  • Stiff flex wants speed and commitment; not the pick if you're still building off-piste confidence
  • Built for steep pow and steep trees, so if park laps and freestyle are the priority, another Family Tree shape fits better

Who Is It For?

Burton's Family Tree Full Nelson is for riders who already have their off-piste legs under them, intermediate to advanced through advanced-expert riders who spend real time hunting powder and picking lines in the trees. The Full Nelson doesn't come alive until you're moving, so if you're still building speed and confidence off-piste, look toward a softer-flexing board elsewhere in the Family Tree line. It'll still rip a groomer on a resort day, but the whole point is charging the upper mountain and letting that stiffer flex and long sidecut do their job.

I am a freeride focused snowboarder who seeks out the tightest trees and steepest runs. I spend most of my time searching for the best snow but pride myself in my ability to ride the worst snow with style.

I run the snowboard department at our SLC store and lead a team of rad snowboard bootfitters. I love spreading stoke and nerding out on gear.
