Krippenstein offers some of the best free-riding in the world. Our partnership with Outdoor Leadership takes this adventure to the next level.
Head deep into the Alps for this epic ski and snowboard trip. Austria has a vibrant ski and snowboard culture, and hosts the most ski resorts in Europe! The charming lakeside town of Hallstatt will be your home base as you explore resorts in the nearby mountains. Terrain is exciting and varied in this region, including glacier skiing and riding, long speedy groomers, and powdery tree runs. The majority of terrain at Krippenstein is categorized as freeride, and your guides will be key in showing you the best unmarked spots. We’ve partnered with the local guides at Outdoor Leadership to make sure your time on snow is awesome. There is even an opportunity on this trip to do a bootpack up the Dachstein Glacier for some untracked lines. We have linked up with CAPITA snowboards to provide guests on this trip with a visit to the Mothership snowboard factory and a exclusive graphic evoTrip snowboard! Wunderbar!

Itinerary
  • 1
    Day number 1
Arrive at Munich Int’l airport by 2pm local time. Meet the group next to the information counter in the Munich Airport Center on Level 3. Once we have located our group, we will travel by private coach to Hallstatt. This will be about a 3 hour ride. We will check in and eat dinner at the beautiful Heritage Hotel Hallstatt and then get a good night’s sleep to prepare for our first day on the hill.
  • 2
    Day number 2
Meet for breakfast at 7am to outline the day and get to know the group. Get ready and meet in the lobby by 8:30. For our first day of riding, we’ll likely head to Gosau Resort, do some bootpacking to find fresh snow and get warmed up with the guides from Outdoor Leadership. We will eat lunch on the mountain and end the day with a sunset walk through Hallstatt followed by dinner at the hotel.
  • 3
    Day number 3
Repeat! If there is fresh powder, we load up on carbs and smoked sausage before heading to Krippenstein to catch the first tram to the top of the mountain. See how many times you can make it down the 1500m, 11km run before wearing out. Back at the lodge, enjoy some time in the sauna before dinner. After riding at Krippenstein, you'll fall asleep early and easily.
  • 4
    Day number 4
Meet up for breakfast early before heading for an epic trip to the Dachstein Glacier. This day will include a great deal of hiking and traversing as we work our way from the top of the glacier with several descents and many opportunities to earn your turns as we ski and ride all the way back to town. Lunch will be at Simony Hut, an alpine refuge that dates back to the late 1800's.
  • 5
    Day number 5
This will be the day we head to the CAPITA snowboards factory, aka The Mothership! Learn about some history of the brand, see how every part of manufacturing a CAPiTA snowboard works, and leave with a custom evoTrip graphic snowboard. After lunch at a family restaurant at a local resort (with optional ride down to base area), load back into our private transportation and head back to Hallstatt.
  • 6
    Day number 6
Meet up for breakfast at 7am and check the weather. We'll likely head back to Krippenstein or Gosau depending on the groups preference, for tree runs and high alpine exploration or more resort riding. At the end of the day we'll enjoy a beer with our guides before heading back into Hallstatt.
  • 7
    Day number 7
Enjoy your final breakfast at the Heritage Hotel before checking out. Walk through Hallstatt and by the lake one last time to meet the private coach to Munich. We'll explore the city, grab a beer at the Hofbräuhaus and fill up on currywurst.

FAQ
FAQ
  • Can I choose my roommate?
Yes. If you have a roommate request, please let us know. By default, we will place two people of the same sex in each room with two beds.
  • Can I book a private room?
Yes, based on availability. Single Occupancy rooms may be available at an additional cost of $500. Please check in with Customer Care before booking if this will determine your participation.
  • I am a beginner / intermediate / advanced level of skier / snowboarder. Will there be terrain for me?
We recommend this trip for intermediate and above skiers and riders. More specifically, this tour is best suited to skiers and snowboarders who can link turns in powder snow, can make a variety of turn shapes and can traverse, hold speed and are adventurous when skiing and snowboarding the entire mountain. Familiarity with riding off-piste is highly beneficial on this trip as your descent down the Dachstein Glacier and down to Hallstatt will be almost completely off-piste. Terrain and snow quality vary during this trip, and we recommend being comfortable with steep entry and exits to off-piste terrain, which are sometime narrow as well. Side-slipping is always possible on the routes we follow, and sometimes necessary to safely descend. For most people with average fitness, the boot-packing on this trip will be manageable. The longest hikes the group will do last about 30 minutes.
  • Can I (or my partner) come even if I don't ski or snowboard?
Yes. The primary activity on these trips is skiing/snowboarding; however, there may be options if you or your loved one does not currently participate. There are English-speaking ski schools in Austria, you can sign up for lessons and rentals at an additional cost (we can help book this). For folks not interested in learning to ski / snowboard, we may be able to help coordinate other activities, such as visits to a spa, yoga or snow shoeing.
  • What is included in this trip?
This trip includes: Transportation by private coach from the Munich airport to Hallstatt and back into Munich. Six nights stay at Heritage Hotel Hallstatt and one night stay at a hotel in Munich, Germany. All breakfasts and dinners at the Heritage Hotel Hallstatt. Four days of skiing at the surrounding resort. Custom CAPiTA snowboard. Recommendations for food, drink and entertainment in Hallstatt and in Munich.
  • What is NOT included in this trip?
Airfare – you will cover your own airfare for the trip, you must arrive at Munich Airport by 2pm on Sunday of your trip start. Most lunches and one dinner. Transportation from central Munich to the airport (options include bus, train or taxi and cost approximately $35). Taxi rides or any transportation in Munich. We strongly recommend that you purchase travel insurance to protect your flight and belongings as well as cover medical expenses. We recommend planning to spend $300-$600 on meals, drinks, entertainment and gifts. Single room requests available for an additional fee.
  • What gear should I bring?
You can find a complete gear list above. Some people bring more than one snowboard / skis (one for powder, one for all-mountain), this is not a requirement. Bringing two pairs of skis can potentially put your bag over weight and be expensive.
  • Will we be able to wash our clothes?
We will not have access to laundry facilities in Hallstatt.
  • I am going to come early / stay longer; can I do something with my snow gear?
There are ski storage lockers available at several central locations in Munich, for an average cost of 5 Euros per day. We are happy to help you plan an extended stay. (Visit https://www.mvv-muenchen.de/en/the-mvv/mvv-und-service/customer-service/luggage-storage/index.html for more information on storage).
  • What if I have dietary restrictions, can those be accommodated?
Yes. Being a vegetarian is easy, though you may not be able to find great alternative protein options. The restaurant in Hallstatt will not be kosher nor halal, but there will be fish and vegetable options available at every meal. For all dietary restrictions, please let us know in advance. We recommend that you bring some snacks just in case.
  • What precautions are you taking given the current Covid-19 pandemic?
While we are optimistic that conditions will continue to improve by this winter, we are taking a number of precautions to promote the health and safety of our guests. We have reduced group size permitted with 10 guests maximum on this trip. We're also offering more single room options in case you would prefer your own room as well as any enhanced safety measures proposed in accordance with the latest guidance from the CDC, WHO, and local authorities. If for any reason, evoTrip is forced to cancel your trip for any reason, including due to restrictions or conditions related to Covid-19, you will receive a full refund.
  • What if I need to cancel?
We understand the need for flexibility now more than ever. If you cannot or no longer wish to join your scheduled trip, we are offering the option to forward your deposit to a future evoTrip (at no cost) up to 65 days prior to departure date. However, if you need to cancel, the deposit for the trip is non-refundable and cancellations will be subject to a cancellation fee (see policy below). For this reason, we recommend purchasing travelers insurance, which will cover the cost of your trip in extenuating circumstances. All cancellations must be submitted to evo in writing, are effective as of the date we receive them according to our internal records, and will be subject to a cancellation fee as follows (amounts are per person and only apply to amount paid after the non-refundable deposit amount): Cancellation 60 days or more prior to trip departure - Non-Refundable Deposit. Cancellation between 30 and 59 days prior to trip departure - 50% of total booking cost. Cancellation less than 30 days prior to departure - 100% of total booking cost. Cancellation policy for custom trips may differ from these terms and will be communicated prior to booking. No refunds will be made if you voluntarily leave a trip for any reason after the trip has begun. The same applies if you leave a trip or cannot fully participate in a trip due to injury or illness. Refunds will be at the discretion of the Company if you are involuntarily forced to leave a trip for any reason. No refunds will be made for any accommodation, transport, sightseeing, meals or services not utilized.
  • Can I just pay the full amount now? When is the full amount due?
Yes. You can pay the full amount now, but we will consider $1,000 to be a non-refundable deposit in accordance with our terms and conditions. The full payment is due 60 days prior to departure.
  • When and how do I meet up with the group?
You are responsible for booking your own travel and you must arrive at Munich Airport by 2pm on Sunday. We will provide additional information on our meeting location and a map of the terminal.
  • Do I need travel insurance?
While it is not required, we always recommend purchasing travel insurance for all trips. Travel insurance allows you to seek reimbursement if you are forced to cancel your trip for unforeseeable reasons, or if you need to cover medical help, emergency transport, theft and/or accidental damage while traveling. We recommend World Nomads.

Testimonials
Everything that evo was in control of was executed well and the entire trip was a zero-hassle experience. The local guide Rob is a legend. It was impressive how he was able to maximize the terrain we rode in a low-snow year. Thank you to everyone on the evoTrip team for an amazing experience!

What an amazing trip from the location, the food, group, and guide! This is my second evoTrip and I remain blown away by the agenda, service, and experience. They created such a memorable and special trip experience that could have never been duplicated alone.

It was such a great trip! Loved the group size, not too large and not too small. Meals at the hotel were delicious (breakfast and dinner) and the view from the hotel is just gorgeous. As far as leads and guides, couldn't have asked for better. I think I had some of the best turns of my life for such little work to access it. The trip the Capita factory was so very informative and fun.

This is our second ski trip with evoTrip, both of which have been very well done. Travelling with evo takes away the task of figuring out the logistics, and you can focus on the fun.

The Austria trip was exactly what I was looking for. Everything was made super easy once we arrived at the airport - transportation, lodging, food, and having the local guide; so I could focus on just having a great time.

The snowboarding challenged me both mentally and physically and was awesome. I can’t say enough about Outdoor Leadership guide, Rob. The glacier turns were some of the best of my 20 years of snowboarding.
