Salomon Burner Snowboard 2013

Fast and stiff with a full cambered profile for all mountain traditionalists, the Salomon Burner Snowboard is a full-throttle all-mountain killer for experienced pilots. With a Quadratic sidecut, Royal Rubber Balls for dampening, and a Zeolit base for speed, this board is your license to thrill.
Rocker Type
Camber - Tried and true "full response" profile has camber from tip to tail
Flex
Flex Rating (1 Soft - 10 Stiff) - 7, a stiff flex for dependable stability at speed and in critical situations
Shape
Tapered Directional - Tail width is tapered by 10-15 mm to loosen up turn initiation and float in powder without giving up edge hold
Sidecut
Quadratic - A blend of elliptic curves for easy turn initiation, effortless direction changes and fluid edge-to-edge transitions
Core
Ghost Green - A light and poppy mix of Salomon's most durable and lightest woods
Laminates
BA MD - Medium Density European-made fiberglass guarantees a consistent quality level for light and lively performance.
Ghost Carbon Stringers - Carbon stringers sewn into the triax for reactive pop and stability at speed
Sidewalls
Royal Rubber Rails - Thicker, softer rubber absorbs impacts and reduces chatter
Base
Zeolit - Hydrophobic Zeolit is fused into sintered base material for improved glide that generates an exothermic reaction on snow. Salomon gets an A+ for science and technology.
Fine Stone Finish - A fine structure that's perfect for powder and colder snow in combination with the Sintered EG base
Edges
All Mountain Edge Bevel - Detuned tip and tail with a 1 degree edge bevel in key parts of the sidecut and a 2 degree bevel between the feet. Solid edge hold with no hang ups.

Comments about Salomon Burner Snowboard 2013:

I rented the 166 for a couple days while I was heliboarding in Alaska. I'm a reasonably advanced, borderline expert rider (when it comes to natural terrain, at least). I really enjoyed the float and stability of this board taking it down fast on aggressive lines. I was really surprised to find it had zero rocker, even in the nose, because it floated very well (much better than a 163 Sick Stick I rode the same trip). The ride was super smooth, like a Cadillac. Relatively damp ride.

On the con side, it handled like a door. It has a medium stiff flex, so it's not difficult to ride per se. The shape is just such that it's not built for maneuverability. It has an extremely shallow sidecut, which is great on super drawn out, arcing turns, but not so much on zippier slashy turns. I had to muscle it around in some tighter spaces.

I would not ride this particular board in the trees or really for most resort powder riding. It's meant to be let go in open powder boards and I imagine it carves great on wide open groomers. If speed is your game, I think you'd have a lot of fun on this board. It's a little one dimensional for me as a primary board, but I would enjoy it as a quiver stick. Just depends on what you want.
