Product Details

Rocker Type

Full RockerVölkl Full Rocker is a smooth, gradual bend from tip to tail, with matching sidecut and a symmetrical flex pattern. All the benefits of extra maneuverability in soft snow while delivering smooth, sexy arcs on groomed terrain. The matching flex and sidecut on the full rocker gives you full, uninterrupted edge contact. The more the ski is on edge the more effective that edge becomes, and the resulting smoothness and predictability is uncanny.

Sidecut

One, Two and Three SidecutThe One, Two and Three models feature a unique sidecut shape that tapers towards the tip and tail. The widest points are now closer to the mid body allowing the skis to drift more easily, especially through powder. The skis gain a special playful quality that shines through in powder and heavy snow.

Core

Multi Layer WoodcoreVölkl freeskiing models feature a multi-layer wood core that features two different densities of wood. In the binding attachment area, a dense, ash core is used, while in the rest of the ski, the core is poplar. The more dense wood creates more secure screw retention, preventing binding pull-out, and the soft, supple poplar section allows for resilience and snap. The flex pattern is tailored to each ski model, depending on the desired performance.

Laminates

Tough Box ConstructionVölkl protects the goods (in this case the Multi Layer wood core) with a composite and fiberglass sheath for resilience, durability and snap.

Sidewalls

Vertical Sidewalls

Binding Compatibility

We recommend a brake width equal to or at most 15 mm wider than the ski waist width.

Comments about Volkl Two Skis 2016:

Used in Japan and Engelberg, Switzerland mounted +1

Obviously in deep open powder this ski at 126mm width surfs over everything with a nice damp ride. It makes pow easy to ski and gives confidence to straightline things. Overall though it rewards a balanced stance but gives you options to drive the tips to slow down and turn or lean back and surf or pivot.

This year snow in Japan was low, with lots of bamboo poking through so precision turns to place the skis were needed just to get through the trees. Here the width and rocker allow controlled sliding in any direction and the option to drive turns from the tip or lean back, lift the tips and pivot on the tail. Butters, switch and so on are also easy.

At Engelberg we had zero snow for a month, so I thought I would be taking a risk skiing the Two over crud and boilerplate as the previous week I'd used my heaviest piste skis for everything. Luckily conditions had softened a bit and a few cm of snow had fallen during the week. Surprisingly (and in contrast to the Volkl marketing material) I found that the Two will carve hard conditions, but it takes some work to get it on edge and then it takes speed and precision to stop it sliding out. It's quite easy to bend the ski and despite the long radius it will whip round like a slalom ski if you use long-leg short-leg technique to increase the edge angle. Straight-lining it down the cannonenrohr piste the tips did flap, but not enough to unsettle the ski. That said, unless you really drive it, the natural approach of the Two is to carve longer turns on a softer piste, overall it's not a ski that will cause difficulties when skiing back to the lift.

The other surprise was that the Two is nice in short turns and bumps. If you do the work to put the skis on edge and pivot a little then the edges grip. If you keep things under control it flows nicely, when I opened it up the ski skimmed over the tops of the bumps until I got scared and closed it down.
