Volkl Kuro Skis 2012: The Kuro is Volkl's widest ski, with a shape of 164-132-139, combined with Volkl's exclusive Extended Low Profile (ELP) rocker technology. Incredibly easy to handle for their width, the Volkl Kuro Skis’ shape and overall setup make them ideal for charging through the deepest of conditions. The Kuro is one of the smoothest feeling water skis known to snow.
Shape
Extended Low Profile (ELP) Full Rocker gives the skier all the benefits of added maneuverability in soft snow while also delivering smooth, graceful arcs on groomed terrain. By matching the flex and sidecut with the full rocker (long, gradual bend from tip to tail) profile, the skier gains full, uninterrupted edge contact. The more you put the ski on edge, the more effective the edge becomes. The resulting smoothness and predictability is truly uncanny.
Construction
Powered by Carbon
Tough Box construction features a Multi-Layer wood core wrapped with a Composite/Fiberglass sheath to create the ultimate resilience and snap for freeskiing models. Surrounding the core in the mid-body of the ski, it adds snap, strength and binding screw retention.
Flex
Multi-Layer Wood Core has two different densities of wood. In the binding attachment area, a dense, Ash core is used, while in the rest of the ski, the core is Poplar. The more dense wood creates secure screw retention and stability, while the softer poplar section allows for resilience and snap. The flex pattern can be tailored to each ski model to match the desired performance characteristics.
Sensorwood Core is CNC milled using vertically laminated wood.
Dimensions
22.3m @ 175cm, 26.3m @ 185cm, 30.4m @ 196cm, 164/132/139 (all sizes)
Binding Compatibility
We recommend a brake width that is equal to the ski waist width and at most 15mm wider.

Comments about Volkl Kuro Skis 2012:

I purchased & rode 2011/12 Volkl Kuro 175cm with Marker Griffons centered on zero this season. I am 5'10" & 200lbs intermediate level.
I've had the opportunity to ride them on groomers and powder.
As other posts have mentioned: I personally didnt find them to be too heavy; extremely stable; plows thru anything; good in the trees; excels in powder -unsinkable?-; easy to turn -the bigger the better but can do quick turns; very fun; strong legs necessary to hold the line on fast groomed corduroy but it can ski groomers easily. Unbelievably agile for their size. Only cons: not fun on ice & top sheet quality which shows minor scratches and chips already.

    • Not for groomers duh

Comments about Volkl Kuro Skis 2012:

This ski is made to shred powder. Like all Volkls, it is stiffer than other powder skis, but it is a powder ski so it is much more flexible than a normal downhill ski. It is also quite nimble. The full rocker makes the ski nimble for quick turns in the trees, which also makes it scary as hell on groomers... but that's not what it's for. :) I would suggest this ski for anyone that likes to ski fast and hard downhill, but not for those looking to spin or land switch. This ski is meant to ride forward and will rip through anything... especially the heavy snow we have in the NW.
