Volkl Bridge Skis 2013

Make the journey to the other side where the Volkl Bride Skis reside. With these all-mountain beauts, you’ll get maneuverability in soft snow, graceful arcs on groomers, and uninterrupted edge control. Their smooth, gradual bend allows uniform edge contact for an incredibly playful, versatile ride for anything from steep, powdery chutes to the pipe and park. Take your skiing experience to the next level without a second thought with the Bridge.
Shape
Full Rocker is a smooth, gradual bend from tip to tail with matching sidecut and flex. The Extended Low Profile of Full Rocker gives the skier all the benefits of added maneuverability in soft snow while also delivering smooth, graceful arcs on groomed terrain. It gives you full, uninterrupted edge contact for uncanny smoothness and predictability.
Construction
Multi-layer Sensorwood is CNC milled using vertically laminated Poplar and Beech wood.
Power/Tough Box Powered by Carbon is Volkl’s longest-running construction that utilizes traditional vertical sidewalls and a torsion box internal layup. This construction provides tremendous grip, stability, and a smooth ride.
Binding Compatibility
Bindings not included. We recommend a brake width that is equal to the ski waist width and at most 15mm wider.

Specs

  • Terrain: All-Mountain
    All-Mountain
All-mountain skis are designed to handle anything you throw at them including powder, ice, groomers, steeps, heavy snow, and everything in between, but they aren’t necessarily a master of any one terrain. If you’re only going to own one ski to do it all, this is what you want. All-mountain skis generally have what we call mid-fat waists that range from 80-110 mm.
  • Ability Level: Intermediate-Advanced
    Intermediate-Advanced
The majority of skiers/snowboarders fall into this level, whether you like to carve on groomers or venture into the powder. These skis/snowboards may be somewhat wider than beginner-intermediate skis, usually with a stronger wood core and sandwich sidewall construction. Depending on the type of ski, intermediate-advanced level skis may have full camber, rocker, or some combination of the two.
  • Rocker Type: Rocker
    Rocker
Rocker (also called reverse-camber) is just as it sounds – camber turned upside down. Rocker skis have a side profile with a smooth downward curvature and a contact point at the middle of the ski. Rocker skis excel in deep powder. This profile provides the skis with less tip and tail hang up to prevent from catching edges and allows the skis to initiate turns extremely quickly. This profile doesn’t perform as well in icy conditions or on harder snow but if you spend lots of time in deep, untracked snow and like a more playful ski, Rocker is a great choice.
  • Turning Radius: Medium
    Medium
17-22 m radius is best for all-mountain and park & pipe.
  • Core/Laminates: Wood
  • Tail Type: Full Twin Tip
    Full Twin Tip
Desinged to allow you to ski backwards, full twin tips are found primarily on park & pipe skis and freestyle powder skis. More and more, we are seeing twin tips on all-mountain skis of all abilities, as it makes it a little easier to get around, and for the most part does not inhibit forward skiing.

Comments about Volkl Bridge Skis 2013:

If you want a true all mountain ski this is the one for you. I am an intermediate to advanced skier, and my ideal day would cruising the mountain, a few hours in the park and off to do some backcountry free ride. However I can only really afford to have one pair of skies, the bridge is incredibly versatile and allows me to do all of those things. For someone who just wants park the lack of camber might be an issue, but for an all mountain ski the bridge is ideal.

      Bridgin' the Gap

Comments about Volkl Bridge Skis 2013:

Volkl has done a pretty good job with taking a successful design and applying it to multiple skis for the same skier just different conditions. You got your Shrio for the deep days, your Gotama for the dry spells and then the Bridge for the park ski you can take everywhere else too. It makes changing skis predictable because you know how each is going to handle. Personally I like a ski with a traditional camber under foot at least for park laps. I want something that I can flex and lean on to get pop. It's hard on the Bridge because it's design is to have the camber taken out and instead placed in a pre-flexed position. While on edge it's unshakable but it lacks camber and playfulness which was a turn off for me.

Comments about Volkl Bridge Skis 2013:

I have always been an agressive and fast skier. The bridge is the perfect ski for me because i can take it down a groomer with no problem and then hit the park or the back bowls for an equally great experience. The ski is responsive and smooth, the lack or camber is a non-factor in my mind. Overall, this is the best ski i have ever skied.

Awesome skis, They rip the groomers like the RTM 84, the full rocker makes it float great in soft snow and powder. They are also nice and light good for the park and side hits on trails. A lot of pop too. On the ice it carves nice. and the switch riding is phenomenal. great all mountain ski.

Comments about Volkl Bridge Skis 2013:

I had the chance to ski this today from the shop with super high expectations. The bridge looked great on paper and was the ideal weapon (in my mind) for the day. the conditions were groomers that had been sun baked and the temp was rising so things slushed up a bit. The first few turns I was getting the ski dialed to see what kind of turn it liked and were it felt most comfortable speed wise. After a few turns I felt that i was missing something and that something was liveliness. They felt completely dead on my feet, there was no reward for a nice arking turn, no crisp finish, no pop to the next edge ( this is partially due to zero camber underfoot) but they still felt dead. To keep this review somewhat short I'll just cut to the chase and say I'm a bit of a stranger to the park but it was my last ditch effort to draw some fun out of these skis and thats where they delivered. I'm not the most graceful in the air but those things will get you up there and make it a blast to rocket off the lip of any jump. I believe this ski is more suited for a park skier as opposed to an all mountain quiver ski as i previously thought. I sure there is a market for this ski and there are a tone of skier that will love it but it just didn't fit my skiing.

Great lightweight all-mountain ski. Floats on the powder and great in the trees and ungroomed trails. Nice carving ablility on the groomers too. Overall a great playfull ski that is fun on any trail. Only drawback is some chatter at high speed, which is expected with a full rocker ski.

Fun ski, can put it on edge realy easy and it will grip hard snow very well. Also floats nice in fresh snow. Very lively ski with pop out of the turns. Full rocker ski makes for easy turns in the bumps. Powers through crud.

While I haven't been able to ski these too often yet, I have gotten out twice in the last 2 weeks to get used to them. Before these, I typically used carving skis... but, I wanted something more playful to improve on spins and skiing switch. At the same time, I wanted to maintain good carving ability. I love these. The rocker still allows me to carve, but gives me much more in terms of versatility. No real complaints here.

I bought the Volkl Gotama several years ago for skiing out West. I liked the Gotama so much that it ended up being my east coast ski most of the time. I wanted a ski with the same profile/characteristics as the Gotama but lighter and a little quicker turning from edge to edge. The Bridge is that ski!!! It has the same wood core construct and ELP rocker as the goat but narrower under foot. These skis are so much fun!
