Salomon Rocker2 Skis 2012: For 2012, the Salomon Rocker2 Skis are blowin’ up the spot, cause dude, they’re kinda hot. The Rocker2 is a next generation powder ski with Twin Rocker shape and super light honeycomb construction in the extremities for a new level of maneuverability and low swing weight in the air and in pow. Developed by Salomon’s best riders, and believe us, that list goes on and on, the Salomon Rocker2 Skis offer maximum surfing sensation and playfulness in deep powder.
Shape
Twin Rocker shape has a rocker in the tip and tail with a 40% pressure zone when flat that smoothly transitions to an 80% pressure zone when on edge. This is super playful and maneuverable for maximum spin and pivot, easy switch riding, and maximum surf feel.
Construction
Edgy Monocoque offers precise edge grip, no excess material, and efficient energy from the skier to the snow for freeskiing.
Edge Free tip and tail provide smoother pivoting that is catch-free in snow and a rounder base profile for smoother flotation.
PULSE PAD is a layer of rubber along the edges and in certain zones of the ski for a smoother ride and improved ski-snow contact.
Wide Edges are thicker for increased durability and improved shock resistance.
Total Edge Reinforcement has a fiber directly on the edges providing edge stiffness for improved durability and grip.
Flex
Full Woodcore from tip to tail offers optimum stability on snow and powerful rebound, which maximizes ski/snow contact and filters vibrations.
Honey Comb tip and tail consist of a super light honeycomb construction in the extremities that reduces inertia to make the ski more maneuverable and playful. This is reinforced with an ABS frame for durability to protect against ski cuts and shocks.
Dimensions
20.3m @ 170cm 137/115/127, 20.3m @ 180cm 139/115/129, 26m @ 184cm 142/122/132, 26m @ 192cm 144/122/134
Binding Compatibility
We recommend a brake width that is equal to the ski waist width and at most 15mm wider.

Comments about Salomon Rocker2 Skis 2012:

These are great skis. In powder, just phenomenal. But that is to be expected. Nothing that hasn't been said before. On groomers, will do well enough that the skis are not really wanting. The point I want to make is about the mounting. Salomon provides two lines. One is at the center for progressive riders. The rear line, which is 6cm back, is for freeriders. This is where I originally mounted my skis. At this location, there was way too much ski in front of the binding. It made the skis feel cumbersome and clumsy. I saw the video by Mike Douglas who recommended mounting about one inch behind the center line. I remounted the skis 3cm forward of the rear line at the +3 mark (which is also 3cm behind the center line or the middle between the two lines). All awkwardness was resolved. These skis came to life for me. These skis were magic on the powder. No nose dive despite the forward mounting. They floated over pristine and not so pristine powder. The skis were very agile and nimble. Needless to say, I have found my powder skis. Thank you Salomon.

Comments about Salomon Rocker2 Skis 2012:

If I could describe my experience with this ski in just one word it would be "Wow!" I rode them today for the first time and was in love. This thing is a powder beast and surfed over and through anything I put in front of it. I was skiing on 40cm of fresh pow and couldn't have picked a better ski for the day. They turned on a button when in the trees, easily rose above the deepest powder and chopped through the crud. These skis were incredibly playful and really allowed me to go wherever I wanted to. They ski a lot shorter so have a second thought about getting a bigger size then what you normally ski. This is definitely the best powder ski I have ever rode and I cannot wait to take them out again.

These skis are a blast on every type of terrain. I also tried the Armada JJ and the K2 Missbehaved. The shop at Taos suggested I wait until next year when the womens' version (Rockette) is coming out, but I just couldn't wait. No regrets. Skied Taos and Snowbird/Alta on them this year. Can't wait for next year! They ski beautifully on every type of terrain.

What ever you want to do these skis do it. They were made for the pow pow, they eat it up for breakfast, they're buttery, smeary and one last thing, they are pretty good on the groomers, a must have west coast ski

Comments about Salomon Rocker2 Skis 2012:

I can't say enough good things about this ski. For skiing any kind of powder/crud they are amazing. They 'pivot' well under foot and the low swing weight (from the lighter weight tip/tail) allow you to make quick turns when you're in a tight spot. They feel a little like the pre-2012 Pontoon in this regard, but they don't have the narrow tail so you don't end up in the back seat. They float really well and are overall a very fun, predictable ski.

I mounted mine with a new pair of Salomon STH14 bindings which looks really sharp and is a great compliment to a great ski.

I highly recommend you check out the Mike Douglas video (under the product image) as he does a great job of explaining what Salomon was setting out to accomplish with this ski. From my experience, I'd say they nailed it!

I really like how soft and playful the Rocker 2 skis. Yet it is also stable and holds an edge at speed. The rocker makes this ski feel shorter than it is so I wouldn’t shy away from a slightly longer length.

Really fun ski to have in the light and fluffy snow. Keep on top of the snow making it easier on your legs. Also one of the better rockered skis to turn with even on the groomers. The best in deep snow though.

Just a great ski. Another step in the evolution of modern rockered skis. The rocker, flex, and taper are really well thought out. I don't do flippy spinny things or airs but this is also a great all-around PNW ski. I'm 55 years old, 6'1" & 210lbs, I skied it in a 184 mounted around +4 from Classic and I wouldn't go any further back. This ski wants to be skied from the center. Much slicer than a HellBent.
