Salomon Rocker2 108 Skis 2013

The next generation powder ski, the Salomon Rocker2 108 Skis are blowin’ up the sport. The Rocker2 108 Skis feature Twin Rocker shape and super light honeycomb tip and tail for new levels of maneuverability and low swing weight in the air and in the pow. Developed by Salomon’s best riders to ensure reduced weigh and zero vibration, the Rocker2 108’s are ready to come to life through the powder and onto the hardpack for you.
Shape
Twin Rocker shape has rocker in the tip and tail with a 40% pressure zone when flat that smoothly transitions to an 80% pressure zone when on edge. This is super playful and maneuverable for maximum spin and pivot, easy switch riding, and maximum surf feel.
Early Taper for catch-free surfyness
Construction
Full Woodcore from tip to tail offers optimum stability on snow and powerful rebound, which maximizes ski/snow contact and filters vibrations.
Honey Comb Tip & Tail consist of a super light honeycomb construction in the extremities that reduces inertia to make the ski more maneuverable and playful. This is reinforced with an ABS frame for durability to protect against ski cuts and shocks.
Edgy Monocoque offers precise edge grip, no excess material, and efficient energy transfer from the skier to the snow for freeskiing.
Additional Features
Edge Free Extremities have no steel on the tips for smoother pivoting without catching the snow and rounded profile for smoother floatation.
Total Edge Reinforcement has a fiber directly on the edges providing edge stiffness for improved durability and grip.
Wide Edges are thicker for increased durability and improved shock resistance.
Binding Compatibility
We recommend a brake width that is equal to the ski waist width and at most 15 mm wider.

I had a pair Rossignol S3's which I really, really like. unfortunately someone else really them as we'll and helped themselves to them. My one complaint about the S3's was groomers when I pushed they chattered and would not have enough hold. Got the Rocker2 108 an immediately noticed they weren't as playful as my S3's. Not that they aren't playful, they just aren't as playful as the S3's. however, as I began to push them on groomers i noticed much better performance. they held better and I haven't been able get chatter out of them, guess I need o ski harder-:) Of course they're not race skis on groomers, but then they are not nearly as demanding. I've only had them in powder up to a foot deep so far but they had nice float and were easy to turn. Where I've really come to appreciate them is in the crud on steeper runs. The do such a great job of that the 108's have pushed my skiing in these conditions to the next level. They given me a feeling of confidence that I've never had before in these conditions. They even do a great job on the ice. Not sure why, maybe because they're wide under foot??? but transitions from soft snow to ice no big deal with these skis. I never felt like the skis were going to slip out from underneath me while on ice.

Bottom line-if these get stolen like my former skis I'm ordering a new pair of 108's without hesitation!

I ski out west in California and Utah. Lots of groomers but I really enjoy off piste as well.

I demoed these up at whistler on a groomer day, looking for a pair of all mountain skis. After reading reviews of them, I was really excited to try them out, but couldn't help but feel disapointed. They didn't carve well enough for me to use them every day, and felt like a boat where I had to rock them back and forth to make turns. There was no pop exiting turns either. In ice, I was genuinely scared as they kept slipping out from underneath me. All in all, they might be good for fresh snow but don't expect to use them every day.

Powder, crud, groomed, this dame loves it all. She prefersthe deeper fluff, but can handle anything you throw at her. Nimble like Kate Middleton in heels, even the trees are no match. An absolute kick in the the pants, just make sure you buy her a drink after.

            Comments about Salomon Rocker2 108 Skis 2013:

The Salomon Rocker2 108 has got to be one of my favorite skis to show up on the scene this year. I'm 6' 190lb and riding the 190 and it has to be one of the funnest, most confidence inspiring skis I have ever ridden. On hardpack and slushy days these skis can rip around the mountain, carve and have a good time. On softer snow days you can get up on top of the freshies and slash pow turns no problem (at least in the PNW). If you get a little airborne then land in the backseat, the tail on these badboys helps you back up to standing like an invisible hand.

Add to all of this that these skis are pretty darned lightweight (especially for the size), yet are not overly lively. They are able to maintain a comfortable dampness that feels at home in all conditions. If you ski in/on/near the Cascades or Sierras this ski can easily be the 'quiver killer'. Suffice to say this ski does it all and is especially keen on softer snow days.

            Comments about Salomon Rocker2 108 Skis 2013:

The whole Rocker2 line from Salomon will have a lot of people reaching for the different skis on the shelf. I think the 108 is the dark horse of the group. Overshadowed but the already proven 122 and the new hard-charging 115, the 108 may be, dare I say it, a "Quiver Killer" from Salomon. The waist and rocker profile provide plenty float for all but the deepest days and even then it's more than manageable. Through the cut up, junk and crud it it accurate quick and forgiving. It is still plenty stable on the groomers making it fun to go from Point A to Point B where wider skis may leave you wishing you were at the chair already. There is enough camber for spring and snap but it still has the dampened easy to ski feel I have come to know from Salomon.

This is a great all around ski that does everything well. Very playful and easy to ski. Surprising float for its dimensions compared to similar width skis. These skis really shine in the trees, moguls no problem, chop also. Where I had issues with them was straight lining at high speeds, stability was lacking... putting them on edge helped some. They ski super short, I'm on 190's and they felt shorter than 186 S3's to me. I'm 6'1" 180ish. I think for a smaller and lighter person this could be a great 1 ski do it all ride.

I was dissipointed, this ski was great in the pow, but on the fronstide it was floppy and didn't hold well. I demoed the 115s and with the flatter tail (also being a tad stiffer) they are a much better bet. If you don't want to upgrade size because of use in frontside don't bother with the 108s there worse, even though the graphics are EPIC

The day I skied these was a pow day and I was a little worried that the 108 waist would cause me to sink in. But I was wrong! Something about the rocker allowed these to float way more than my Gotamas (106 underfoot) Super quick turns and playful. I would be curious to see how these handle on hardpack. Awesome skis.

                  Comments about Salomon Rocker2 108 Skis 2013:

Overall, I had a ton of fun on this ski - and much preferred it to other skis I tested. It felt very manageable - you could easily set whatever turn radius you like, whereas other skis tended to 'track' a turn based on the sidecut. The one drawback I found was that it was a little soft and noodly for my liking. It didn't feel very stable and powerful in high-force turns. That said, it did feel relatively lightweight so there's a trade off to be had. I think this could make a good all-around ski and would be excellent if paired with a light touring binding for the skier that wants to ski in-bounds/side-country most of the time, but wants the option to tour a few days of the year.

Seems to have a good mix of width, rocker and camber to be very good in a number of conditions. They hold an edge well on harder stuff and with the rocker stay on top of the deeper snow. If you mostly go out when there is new snow check out the 122, if you want something a bit more versatile the 108 might be the way to go.
