Moment Death Wish Skis 2013: Radically different than anything on the mountain, the Moment Death Wish Skis feature Moment’s new Dirty Mustache profile: three separate camber sections along the midsection of the ski, with rocker at the tip and tail. Get a loose, surfy feel that flat camber provides, plus tenacious edge grip when conditions take a turn. Dirty Mustache makes it all possible by concentrating your weight at four points when put on edge, giving you unprecedented bite in hardpack while smearing and slashing like a Twin Rocker design in powder. You’ll be the last one left on the mountain.
Shape
Dirty Mustache Rocker: Prepare your face for meltdown. New for 2013, Dirty Mustache Rocker combines the carving power of traditional camber with the loose, playful feel of Twin Rocker. Underfoot, three areas of slight positive camber create pressure points that bite the snow when the ski is placed on edge. This effect is eliminated in deep snow, where the flat midsection combines with tip and tail rocker to let the ski pivot and smear with ease.
Construction
Flex rating of 7 out of 10 (1 Soft – 10 Stiff)
Moment uses Aspen/Pine wood core on skis that need to be able to withstand a beating. Ash provides amazing binding retention, strength and dampening; Pine adds durability and reduces weight to the core.
Fiberglass Matrix fine-tunes the flex profile of the ski.
Carbon Fiber stringers provide more pop and snap and are extremely strong and lightweight.
Dimensions
20m @ 164cm, 23m @ 174cm, 25m @ 184cm, 27m @ 190cm, 138/112/129 (all sizes)
Additional Features
UHMW (Ultra-High Molecular Weight Polyethylene) Sidewalls are extremely light, durable, and resistant to separation.
2.2mm Rockwell 48 Steel Edge for more strength and durability
1.2mm Durasurf 4001 Sintered base can take a beating while staying fast. They are US-made, harder and have better wax absorption than extruded bases. Moment uses sublimated graphics to eliminate the cracking and peeling common on die-cut bases.
VDS Dampening System is placed over the edges and in several other key locations to mellow any harsh vibrations.
Binding Compatibility
We recommend a brake width that is equal to the ski waist width and at most 15 mm wider.

Comments about Moment Death Wish Skis 2013:

Anyone can look at this ski and see right away that it looks really weird. It's rocker in the tip and tail and light camber under foot, but there is a separate, more aggressive camber in front of the toe and behind the heel. The idea is to have a rockered ski, that still has contact points further out so you don't loose edge grip. I'm not sure that totally makes sense, but once you ski the Death Wish, it somehow all comes together. There is definitely added pop whether coming off the tip or tail, and it has the best edge hold of any Moment I have skied, performing like a bottom-edge Magne-Traction. My biggest complaint is that when you are locked onto and edge, making a big arching turn, there is pulsing effect that happens from the 3-stage camber. Its like you can feel the turn pass through each stage. I would think the different camber stages could have a better transition between them. I'm all for new innovations in ski shape, and this is one you have to try out.
