Liberty Variant 97 Skis 2014

Shop all Liberty
A true all-terrain slayer, the new Liberty Variant 97 Skis can take on any terrain. A bamboo and poplar core make this ski lively, while a Titanal layer adds torsional rigidity and also aids in dampening vibrations from choppy snow. Liberty's Hammer Rocker is a very low rise tip rocker with camber under foot for incredible edge grip and effortless flotation in soft snow. A skin-friendly tip and tail means that the Variant is ready and rearing to hit the side-country straight out of the factory. No matter where you take it, you're going to have a good day.
Rocker Type
Hammer Rocker - Hammer Rocker has very low rise tip rocker, combined with camber back to the tail for amazing edge grip with easy turn entry and flotation. Makes ski stable and predictable, more versatile, and more powerful exits out of turns.
Flex
Mid flex in the tip and stiff flex underfoot and in the tail
BC Tail - A flat, stiff, tail section with minimal camber that allows strong turn finishes, won't hook up on the steeps, and is a strong landing platform.
Core
Bamboo Backbone - Every Liberty ski features a hand-made, bamboo/poplar laminate core that is light, strong, lively and eco-friendly. Each core and flex pattern is fine tuned for the intended application, but starts with the strength and durability of bamboo to provide a dependably energetic ride, time after time. If you've never ridden a bamboo-core ski, definitely give it a try.
Laminates
FRP - Mats of dense Fiber Reinforced Polymer that are to increase screw retention and to add rigidity
Quadaxial Fiberglass - Liberty's custom E-Glass creates torsional stability while allowing easy longitudinal flex to initiate turns and absorb terrain.
Base
P-Tex 4000 - The fastest, hardest base available.
Edges
HRC 48 - Liberty's specially treated HRC 48 edges feature a wider profile with larger anchors for greater durability and longer life.
Additional Features
Skin Compatible - Low profile tapered tip and notched tail for quick and secure skin attachment.
Binding Compatibility
We recommend a brake width equal to or at most 15 mm wider than the ski waist width.

Specs

  • Terrain: All-Mountain, Alpine Touring
    All-Mountain
All-mountain skis are designed to handle anything you throw at them including powder, ice, groomers, steeps, heavy snow, and everything in between, but they aren’t necessarily a master of any one terrain. If you’re only going to own one ski to do it all, this is what you want. All-mountain skis generally have what we call mid-fat waists that range from 80-110 mm.
    Alpine Touring
Also known as backcountry skis, alpine touring (AT) skis are designed for going uphill as well as downhill. These skis are typically light for their width and many feature fittings that accept climbing skins. AT skis vary in width and weight, with the wider heavier versions usually used for winter/deep snow touring and the skinnier, lighter skis usually used for spring/summer/long distance touring.
  • Ability Level: Advanced-Expert
    Advanced-Expert
Whether you charge the steepest lines, carve with race-like precision, hit the biggest jumps or halfpipes; advanced to expert level skis/snowboards are for the more aggressive rider. You will often find the addition of layers of metal, carbon, bamboo, or other stringers in these. These features work to make a stiffer ski/snowboard with more power and rebound.
  • Rocker Type: Rocker/Camber
    Rocker/Camber
Rocker/Camber skis pair a traditional cambered profile underfoot with an elongated, early rise tip borrowed from fully rockered skis. This profile places the front contact point further back from the tip, while the rear contact point remains close to the tail. The rockered tip allows for better flotation and less edge catch for increased float in deep snow, while the cambered rear stores and transmits energy similarly to a fully cambered ski.
  • Turning Radius: Long
    Long
    > 22 m radius is best for powder and big-mountain.
  • Core/Laminates: Metal, Wood
  • Tail Type: Flat
    Flat
This is your traditional tail, designed to have edge contact all the way through the tail, and only designed for skiing forward. This is also preferred for alpine touring, as you can stick the tails of your skis in the snow.
