Comments about Thule Sidearm Universal Mount Bike Rack:

Once installed the rack is easy to use and has a very secure hold on the bike. I would suggest purchasing the lock cylinders as well so you can lock the bike to the rack and then the rack to the car. The tray fits a beefy 2.3 tire without any issue.

Peace of mind compared to my previous rack

Comments about Thule Sidearm Universal Mount Bike Rack:

I've been hanging my bike off one of those 50$ hanging racks. As the value of my bikes has increased it's been harder and harder to feel confident about their security on that back rack. Forget letting any of my friends hang their even more fancy bikes from it, making carpooling to the trailhead challenging.. I finally invested in the Thule sidearm (and a roof rack). Installation was relatively easy- the information is all there, it's just not spelled out very clearly- in particular the instructions are missing a piece of information at the beginning about using the bolt lengths appropriate for your car/mounting system (the look up tables are in the back). Fortunately I had randomly picked the right length when I dove into putting it together. The rack itself is easy to use, except (this is no fault of the rack) it's not easy to lift your bike up onto a roof rack (I'm 5' 5" and have a Crossfit upper body). I put a little plastic stool in my car and have worked out a system that more or less gets it up there without risk of damage to me, the bike or the car. I have put a 29er and a 27.5 with super knobby tires on the rack and both fit great. I was too cheap to order the locking mechanisms but I'm sure that would bring additional peace of mind when I'm parked. The main reasons I ordered this rack from evo, rather than from another "local" business that rhymes with PIE, is that evo didn't charge an extra shipping fee for an oversize box. In store pick up is not an option where I live. Thanks evo!
