Comments about Arc'teryx Atom LT Hoodie:

This is a great jacket that packs down small and is very warm. One nice feature is the hood, which has been designed to fit under a helmet. It holds in a lot of heat for it's light weight and dries out rapidly when turned inside out. It requires deliberate zipping as the zipper is prone to catching on the fabric of the jacket. Overall a fantastic piece to have for cold weather adventures.

Comments about Arc'teryx Atom LT Hoodie:

I enjoy long-distance backpacking & employ lightweight gear to make that experience better. One needs a versatile warm layer that will block wind and keep you warm even when the jacket gets wet from precip or perspiration. Having a hood is critical for warmth as well. This jacket meets all my needs: it is quite light for its warmth; it isn't bulky, yet blocks the wind and stays warm even when damp.

I also go fishing in the backcountry in Alaska, where we are always on our own. Gear must be bombproof and work in harsh conditions. I rely on this jacket literally to stay safe.

This jack fits me perfectly! It's extremely comfortable, a great light jacket that really keeps you warm, but it is still breathable on the side/underarms. The surface of the inside of the jacket feels very smooth and comfortable, almost like a sleeping bag.

Comments about Arc'teryx Atom LT Hoodie:

Overall, I really like this jacket. There are a few things that are not necessarily problematic, but are worth pointing out. Before buying, I read complaints from people that the zippers are too loose and will unzip with just a slight tug on the chest panels or when wearing a pack. This doesn't necessarily bother me, but I do find that it is true that it unzips very easily and even by itself from time to time. It's by far the loosest zipper I've ever had on a jacket. That might bother some people. Something I would actually complain about though are the side panels. While I like that they are stretchy and allow for a good range of motion, I find that when it's windy there is cold air that leaks in from the side of the jacket. For my uses, I'm not thrilled about this, but it's not so bad that I don't like the jacket overall. And lastly, the cuffs on the wrist are made of a very thin, kind of spandexy material, for lack of a better description. While I like how they fit around my wrists, I'm a bit concerned with the durability over time. No issues yet, but I could see them snagging easily and possibly ripping. On the other hand, they are comfortable, snug, and low profile in the meantime.

As for everything else, this is a fantastic piece. The material does very well when wet. I can't say that it's waterproof, but it does repel water well if you were to get caught in a mild storm. The jacket has a great fit, is very low profile, and has a hood that fits better than any other jacket I own. The craftsmanship on the stitching and seams are as good as any Arcteryx jacket (IMO the best in the industry). It also has some great features that make it really versatile. I won't wear jackets for warmth if they don't have a drawcord at the waist to keep the heat trapped in when I want it. This one does. The neck zips nice and high, but not so much as to be uncomfortable. Also, the jacket is very light and packs down very small (much smaller than a thin fleece that wouldn't even offer as much warmth). This is a huge part of why I bought this jacket. See the video on the Arcteryx website of how to stuff it into it's own sleeve.

I wanted a jacket that I could take out in most situations when it was cold and could get a little wet. I'd say it's somewhere between a standard cotton hoody and a medium weight down jacket for warmth, but breathes and cinches down well enough to use it in any situation in that range. Because of the synthetic down staying warm and reasonable comfortable when wet, it's better than either a hoody traditional down in a lot of scenarios. The price of this jacket is comparable to other manufacturers for a similar product (if not better) and exceeds them in quality. If you're okay with the odd features I mentioned above, you'll be very happy with this jacket.
