Comments about Karakoram Split30 Splitboard Bindings 2014:

I have used the basic Voile plate system with regular snowboard bindings, Spark R&D Blaze (2012 model) and now these Split 30. I like that there is no pin to lose. The connection feels more secure, hinges better and responds better. I like the way the bindings respond on the way down better too. I don't like how hard it has been for me in powered days to get the bindings to attache to the board (I am getting better, but it is still slower than the LT Pin system that seemed to self clean) I really like the feel of these over the Voile or Spark system, but the down side is the cleaning of snow and ice to make sure everything lines up just right so you can attach the binding. I will keep working on refining the process...

Comments about Karakoram Split30 Splitboard Bindings 2014:

These bindings are great. The construction is solid and the entire concept of how they work is much better than the Volie system. The only issue I have is thay they come built to have a very very tight fit. This has loosened up over time, but be prepared to man handle these bindings a bit till they loosen up a bit. Also, save some time for setup. This takes some time.. Still very happy with my purchase.

Comments about Karakoram Split30 Splitboard Bindings 2014:

Last year I saved up my 'outdoor gear fund' for these babies and for the most part was not disappointed. They are the only binding I've seen so far that doesn't require you to unstrap switching over to ski mode (switching to ride mode could be mastered eventually). With some practise I can make the transfer almost as fast as my wife on skis.
I split my own board and have never ridden a factory-made splitboard so I can't exactly comment on how well they keep the board together, but the 5-contact-point system seems far stronger and more advanced than the Voile pucks.
The heel lock system is sweet! I haven't used it too much, mostly coming down the cat track at Baker when I don't feel like completely switching over. It really impresses friends though!
    Issues:
    1. I had to duct tape the strap-adjusters, the construction makes it so they continuously hit each other and come undone while touring, and in my opinion this is unacceptable when I pay that much. This has been the biggest disappointment for me.
    2. Screws have needed to be re-tightened. This is understandable with hand-made bindings like this, just make sure you inspect them from time to time! I put a glob of toothpaste on each screw that loosened to help them stay tight.
    3. The Karakoram system is complicated with all the levers and pins, nothing has gone mechanically wrong for me yet but the concern is always in the back of my head... Worst case scenario I would have to telemark down a few slopes!

Comments about Karakoram Split30 Splitboard Bindings 2014:

These bindings definitely make the switch over from touring mode to riding mode simple and quick. No more unscrewing, way less time consuming.

feels like the connection between the two splitboard pieces are a tighter fit too!
