Had my eye on this jacket for a while. Finally caught a sale at a local retailer and got one. This is a well made, quality jacket. The break in period is quick and easy as I've only had this about 1-2 days but have had the chance to wear in in different temps/weather already. It's a bit snug at first but it'll stretch and move with your body quickly.

It's a pretty warm jacket and it holds up well against light sleet, snow, rain. The water beads on the surface similar to TNF rain jackets so it seems like it can tolerate a good amount of light to moderate rain/snow but note according to TNF this jacket isn't waterproof.

As for the biggest thing to consider: temperature ranges. I did the "t-shirt test" last night when it was about 32F out and slightly windy . Just a tshirt under it. It kept me warm but I was still a little chilly and it was a bit drafty. With a long sleeve dress shirt the next morning in 28-30F temps with some light sleet I was dry but could still feel a chill. Standing inside a room at room temp with this jacket and just a t shirt I was sweating within 2 minutes. I live in the Northeast and we've seen temps as low as 9F some days (with feel like temp below 0F). This jacket is not going to keep you warm below freezing temps unless you're layering. You'll need a waterproof outer layer in very wet conditions and you'll need a warm layer under for below 30F. Even in high 30s I was a bit chilly in my arms with a long sleeve dress shirt and t shirt under.

So all this said, I can say this jacket is probably best used alone (with a t shirt or long sleeve shirt) in temperatures of 40F and up. With layering (either a rain jacket or hard shell over it) you can probably take this jacket into wet, below 30F weather easily. With layering under it (fleece, hoodie, thermal long sleeve) I'm thinking it can be comfortably warm in dry weather down to 30F .

As others have said this jacket does best in the 40F and up chilly range, appears to be weather resistant, and blocks wind well when the cinches and velcro are adjusted correctly. You might notice it takes a bit for the fabric to "warm up" when you first go outside. This makes you feel a bit chilly at first before your body heat moves around the inside of the jacket.

This jacket also looks sleek and matches anything. When it's "hoodie weather" out but you want to look a bit classier, this jacket does it. It feels durable and feels high quality. Since it's thin and close fitting you can layer it well which adds to the versatility.

It won't keep you warm alone in below 40F, it'll hold off light to moderate rain/snow for a little bit, and it'll block wind as long as you adjust it properly.

I give this jacket 5 stars because overall it is a really great, versatile, and comfortable jacket. It's a good balance of weather resistance, warmth, and windblocking.

Seeing how strong the review are for this jacket on every single site you can buy it, you might think this is the greatest jacket ever made... I could help but feel so extremely underwhelmed with my purchase, tough...

The jacket feels paper thin and cheaply made, and even in mid-60s weather I feel almost no warmth or protection from it... The inside feels uncomfortable, where I expected a nice soft smooth texture that would have been pleasant to wear... I have another TNF jacket, a Gotham, and it's silky smooth and feel like heaven when you put it on... When I put this on I can't help but feel like it's no better than a cheap $10 coat... In fact, recently I was shopping at a low-cost retailer / grocery store and saw a clone of this jacket for a fraction of the price, and wished I'd bought that instead... Same exact design, same exterior texture, and it actually felt a little nicer inside... I expect it was a clone of this jacket by another country...

Aside from feeling cheaply made, it fits tight compared to other XL jackets, and runs very short... I looked at soft shell jackets for 6-8 months before picking this one, and have regretted buying it every day since.

Comments about The North Face Apex Bionic Jacket:

Seems well made, quite windproof and probably (?) useful in light rain.

But I returned it because the fit is not at all 'streamlined' as described. The tag actually says 'relaxed fit', which is indeed what it is. As a slim, athletic person, it hangs off me. The 'high rise grey heather' is a completely different color than what is depicted online.

And while the fabric is probably good as a light jacket by itself, it's rather odd and stiff and not versatile enough to layer under anything else (perhaps with the relaxed fit, layering things underneath this would be a better plan, but not what I was looking for). Disappointed.

        MEN??S APEX BIONIC JACKE

        By

        from WA

Comments about The North Face Apex Bionic Jacket:

        Fit
I chose the next size up from what my dimensions were on the fitting chart. The cuffs ended up measuring perfectly to my forehands. The neckline allows for easy movement without tension. The bust was a little wide but the draw cords can easily make it more snug.

        Design
The inside pockets are made with a mesh material which allows for breathability. Draw cords for the hemline are inside the pockets which is very sleek. Using these draw cords is perfect for blocking the cold outside air. The pockets are rather large inside but it easily allows for slim glove storage.

        Material
The ClimateBlock fabric is very effective in the winter season. I've already worn it in wind, rain, and snow and it is surprisingly efficient. It does block the wind from entering inside. It is resistant to rain and snow, very little actually gets absorbed into the jacket. Wearing this jacket, I feel like I stay warm and dry, with my body able to breathe easily.

        Overall
I chose this jacket for the winter season because of it's durability. I wanted something light and slimming without a hoodie that had good mobility for all weather. I am very happy with my purchase and I highly recommend this jacket.

tnf apex bionic jacket (new fit) version

        By

        from Middletown,CT.

Comments about The North Face Apex Bionic Jacket:

I brought my first apex bionic in 2008 & i admit this is a get jacket. I can wear this jacket in three out of the four seasons. In the winter i just wear a hoodie underneath & i am warm. The 2014 version of this jacket is the same thing as the older version but the only difference betwwen the two are to me is it fit slimmer a little tighter but i like that so in cold conditions it keeps you warmer & other is the chest pocket is really smaller than the older version. It can only fit your keys, ipod mp3 player or a small phone just one item at a time. But at least in the newer jacket it does have a headphone hole inside the chest pocket so u can protect the wire of your headphones wire. Overall another great jacket by tnf. I hope this review helps & be safe.

        difficult sleeve lining

        By

        from Connecticut

Comments about The North Face Apex Bionic Jacket:

I like the style and the light weight. However the lining in the sleeves is rough and makes it difficult to slide your arm in when wearing a sweater of shirt. I am amazed that others do not find this a problem. Because of this I gave it an averge rating.

This is the exact winter jacket I been looking for awhile. The fitting on this really good. I got the TNF Black/TNF Black/Biking Red. The red sport trim isn't that bright red but a darker shaded one. I'm about 6'1 and weigh about 190lbs, and I'm some what slim fit body and the Medium is perfect. Its feels glued to your body. Very lite weight and material smooth and clean. I highly recommend this product to anyone wanting a slim fit winter jacket.

I bought this jacket hoping that I could use it everyday without it being to cumbersome. It does the perfect job. this jacket can be used in most seasons but it wont keep you too warm in the deep winter. I have had my jacket for two years without any rips or damage. the quality is top notch, I highly recommend this jack, but if you are looking into a soft shell jacket for the winter go for the apex thermal in the summit series. Summit series is the top of the line!

I'm extremely pleased with this jacket. It not only looks great, it's extremely warm. I was really skeptical about it being "wind proof", but after receiving the jacket via fedex, on a 17 degree morning, I immediately put it on and walked outside. I was not disappointed. Super warm for such a lightweight coat. I'll tell everyone I know about it.

Comments about The North Face Apex Bionic Jacket:

This is my 2nd Apex jacket. The first one I wore for 3 years for everything here in the Northwest, wind, rain, snow, etc. It's warm without all of the bulk. The jacket stands up to the wind, snow and rain remarkably well. In the wintertime I wear a long sleeved shirt with it and I'm very comfortable down to 25 degrees. The only improvement I would highly recommend for this jacket is to make the sleeves a bit looser, and make it waterproof instead of water resistant. I've owned quite a few rather expensive jackets in my life, but none of them held a candle to this one. It would be a big mistake not to try one.

I the tried on large at Dick's and it was hard to get on the material lining jacket sleeves pulls on any type of shirt you have on. You need to have real people try these out. Northface is known for quality but when I spoke with other people they spoke of the same problems. I returned the item.

I just got my jacket last week and already put it to the test. I live in the Boston area and our temps dropped plus got snow. It was low 30's all week. I wore this jacket with a super light base layer. I was actually too warm!! I am going to wear this w/o the base layer unless its brutally cold.

This is my second NF jacket and to be honest, I was not happy with the first one but I see a HUGE improvement in this model. I originally bought the jacket as a midlayer for my snowboard coat but I am not sure I will need that one. The Apex Bionic might be the best of both worlds.

I was also so happy to find this jacket in 3XL. I am 6'5 270lbs with a tapered build. I wear a 52L dress jacket or 36/37 sleeve shirt. This fits great in the chest and arm area which are very hard for me. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

Comments about The North Face Apex Bionic Jacket:

In brief, this jacket has an edge on windproof most suitable for daily use. Also, It shield you against short period of drizzle as a standby. However, this brand new jacket is no longer as well-designed as before. It replace the original nylon zipper to a polyester one simply to cut down the cost, which makes the collar hard to fold down, completely inconvenience when you are very hot. Besides, this strange zipper can not be fit with shell jacket. Hope they will change this odd design.

There is a size assistant for picking the correct size. It does not take height, or arm length, into consideration. This jacket is made for men under 5' 10"

I have worn NF products for years, but am a dog & cat owner, and the hair from the animals is drawn like a magnet to any fleece clothing. After using a lint roller for a long time, I switched from fleece to this climate block synthetic and would highly recommend. It saves a lot of time and energy, as it defies all the laws of pet hair attraction.

Outstanding product! Color is terrifc [grey and acid yellow], material works as advertised in terms of wind-stop characteristics. The best aspect is that the fit, which has been recently redone, is spot on.
I am 5'11" and 182 lbs and have a fairly athletic build; the size M is perfect.
I have been a North Face customer for years....this is one of my favorite products.

Comments about The North Face Apex Bionic Jacket:

I have only recently started buying Northface gear. I have a Tri-climate specifically for winter. So recently I purchased the Apex Bionic for the spring season coming up. I love the Apex material. It blocks all wind and does a good job against water. It is not waterproof but it will hold up to light rain. I have used it in weather from 10F to 40F so far and it works great and still kept me warm. It still look professional enough that I can wear it for work too. So overall it is an amazing jacket. I recommend this jacket to everyone.

This is my 2nd apex and I have to say , this is the warmest jacket you will find for the money! I used to be over 260 pounds and I lost a bunch of weight over the last few months, so I had to give my old apex to my dad and began shopping for a new one. I have 5'7 217 pounds and the XL is just a touch too big. But I am not going to send it back because I like having some room to layer if I need to. But love the way it feels and I can really tell it was made with some high quality materials. Overall great jacket, TNF has a real winner here

I had to keep it because I ordered it for a trip I was taking and had no time to return and needed a jacket for the trip. Needless to say, I would not recommend any of your products. To anyone.
