Comments about Ride Concept UL Snowboard 2010:

Not to be a bummer, but this ain't ultralight. I hate looking at ad copy from a manufacturer, where everything references how light a product is, but they never get around to telling you what it actually weighs. Just an average will do, but we can't even get that. Anyway, I ordered the 161 as soon as I saw it available. I was downright giddy when I realized it was also on sale. The dream didn't last though. My Union binders are XL and hung over the edge. I didn't even bother putting boots in 'em, I knew there'd be heinous toe/heel drag. I was kicking myself for not comparing specs to my current Ride. Funny, I never really thought I needed a wide ride (US11) but apparently I do. I tried to be fair and rate it only in areas I could substantiate. I have no idea how it actually rides but I can tell you the top cloth (sure can't call it a top sheet) showed signs of wear when I received it. It wouldn't matter to me, after all it was just that a bit of the fabric was fuzzy around the T-nuts but do be advised— durable it ain't. The real drawback for me was, it ain't that light either. I weighed it before sending it back and it's 6lbs 5oz for the 161. Comparatively, my 07 Ride Yukon 159 (basically a wide Timeless) weighs 6lbs 13oz, so that's a whole half pound. Big deal. That's 31 bucks and change per ounce, here in the States. At any rate, I'd have kept it if I could ride it. BTW, just an fyi, I love my other Ride and generally like their design/tech but this missed the mark I think. It's not bad, it's just that I can't justify giving up durability and paying 50% more just to lose 8oz. I can't say for sure but this woven fabric top sheet seems like it'd be a snow magnet. How light would it be then? Hope this helps at least someone...

Comments about Ride Concept UL Snowboard 2010:

From having had the 2003 Ride Concept 162 and having moved to the '06 T6 162, I had my doubts on this new Concept UL 161 impressing me. I must say I was uberly surprised. This deck is clearly all it is hyped to be and more. First of all I'll admit I don't spend much time in the park, so I cannot tell you much about that. But when it comes to steeps, fast groommers and powder, I'm there.

Firts of all this board is fast, probably as fast as the T6, but without any chatter, AT ALL!! Also, it's shape made it immediatly easier to ride fakie, which impressed me. On the steeps it has held on very well, even on hard packed icy conditions. Which reminds me of a recent trip to Squaw Valley after a recent melt; I was rocked by how well this board did on icy conditions, fast and safe! Not once did I slip!

Finally where I wasn't the happiest with my T6; powder. The Concept UL is about 1 mm wider thatn the T6 and although this may sound like a very little I believe it makes a difference. The CUL did great in powder floating lightly on fluffy and heavy stuff and turning without much effort.

If you are looking for a board that is light, fast, smooth with a SOLID ride and you don't care for silly graphics, look no further than the CONCEPT UL. I'm loving it.

PS: Love the tech on this board, especially the top sheet being a fabric of some sort. The reason my T6 only lasted 2 years (about 75 days of riding) was its own self destruction. we'll see how this one holds up.

    Service and delivery comments:

Evogear not only had the best price on this board, but delivered it lightning fast and in perfect condition, not something I can say about some local stores.

Comments about Ride Concept UL Snowboard 2010:

    KingsX,

Better not try to buy a mountain bike if you think it's weird to pay a lot more for less weight.

    Rough math, in your case -- your 159 weighed 6lb 13oz = 109oz -- gross that up x 161/159 for your UL being larger = 110.4 oz

    Ride UL = 6lb 5oz = 101oz

    So 100% x 101/110.4 = 91.5% -- it's 8.5% less weight.

A mountain bike or a car weighing 8.5% less costs a hell of a lot more than it's heavier counterpart. I don't think I paid that much more for my Concept UL.

Comments about Ride Concept UL Snowboard 2010:

Ride upped the ante with this board... I used to ride the 2007 Prophet and then this shows up... looks like I'll be riding this one for awhile! With its Carbon Stringer Array. 90A Slimewalls and ultra light top sheet that looks like 3D camouflage... there's enough technology to be a head of its time for years to come... this thing can handle just about anything - from back country to groomers... i wouldn't go too hard in the park though... the top sheet wears easily. If you want something that beats the Burton Vapor or the Rome Design in stability and flexibility for way cheaper ... look no further!

This board is CRAZY LIGHT but you would never know based on its performance. It has a ton of pop and gives you more control the more you push it, not less. I cannot say enough about this board.... If I could offer you advice, it would be to resist the urge to wear sunglasses while riding because they will not stay on ya'll. BAM!
