K2 Protohype Snowboard 2012

The hype machine has been working overtime on this one and K2’s development team has delivered. The K2 Protohype Snowboard lets loose with the latest in a long line of top-end tech-focused boards. The Protohype is designed for the freestyle technician that demands the leading edge of technology in one super damp, clean design.
Construction and Core
The Bambooyah™ WH5 core is a skate style horizontally laminated bamboo core that is indestructible and sustainable. This is the best performing and lightest weight core in the line.
Harshmellow™ tech for a vibration force field that shields you from negative vibes, leg burn, and rough landings.
Ollie-Bar™ solves the concern over loss of pop when switching from camber to a flat base. It’s a carbon element that lives in the center of the board and is molded in place pre-loaded with camber.
Shape
Twin Hyper Progressive shape offers an infinite number of different radii that are blended together flawlessly from mellow in the tips, to more aggressive in the center. The result is a predictable feel that never hooks.
Base
The Sintered Base is ultra-thin, static eliminating, lightweight, lower material usage, and the highest quality sintered base available.
Demanded by the K2 International Pro Team, K2 pioneered the Flatline® base profile. Preloaded, stable, and turn-ready, Flatline® is exactly as sounds - a flat base, and creating a supremely balanced, smooth ride for both aspiring and accomplished pros.

Comments about K2 Protohype Snowboard 2012:

This board is on point, perfect in snowbird utah fresh pow pow 2-3ft,at 11,000 and handled perfect in all scenarios. I would recommend this board to any 1. I was really suprised how easy it wanted to flip switch. The board is fast and wants to carve even in non pow. It's aggressive in the hard knuckle drag carves, and the stability never wavered. Perfect!!!!!!

Comments about K2 Protohype Snowboard 2012:

This board is a little more work to maneuver but is well worth the effort. It rides super fast and is very damp which makes charging lines much smoother than on a regular camber board or reverse camber. The flat base makes stomping landings a breeze and the harsh mellow in the board takes the jolt out of any bumps on the line. I have not had the opportunity to ride it in powder yet but am anxious to see if it can compete with the Turbo Dream in the deep stuff. I am sure it will hold its own for sure in the soft stuff as well but for groomer days I am convinced there is no better board. Hopefully Mother Nature will be kind to me on my monthly trips out West this year so I can have the chance to push this deck to its limits.

Comments about K2 Protohype Snowboard 2012:

This boards does everything to the extreme. But you have to work for it a little. The stiffness equates to serious pop and response, but this requires some leg stregth to get all of the benefits. I'm still a little uncertain on the benefit of the flatline camber but it's definitely more fun than a standard cambered board. My first time on the board it felt lightning fast. It also feels a little narrow, but it hasn't affected me thus far. My board is the 156, I wear a 10.5 boot, and my bindings have toe caps. Overall this is a fun and somewhat scary ride.

        Aggressive AND Fun!

Comments about K2 Protohype Snowboard 2012:

This board is a blast! It charges pow, hardpack, and park. The flatline profile combined with their new ollie bar makes it snappy and predictable. Harshmellow absorbs vibrations and flat landings without getting in the way of snow feel and edge pressure. It is fast too! If you like snowboards that act like they should, buy this board, it is way too much fun!
