Arbor Abacus Splitboard 2014

Don't let a perfect line go to waste by butchering it on a mediocre snowboard. The Arbor Abacus Splitboard is the type of board that will get you down that unforgettable line with style and finesse. The Abacus features a reclined version of Arbor's System Rocker to provide you with arc-it-in, float-over dominance you would expect from a reverse camber design, while providing you with supreme board to snow contact usually found on traditional camber boards. Whether you're hiking up gnarly ridges, or flying through deadly chutes, make sure you're riding the Arbor Abacus Splitboard.
Rocker Type
System Rocker - A "True-Rocker" design based on the parabolic arc; a shape that gradually reduces the amount of rocker toward the tips. This ensures that the outside contact points are close enough to the snow to reengage when maximum edge control is needed: Loaded Turns, higher speeds, bigger landings. Arbor's parabolic rocker provides an additional layer of on-demand edge control, without sacrificing any true-rocker performance.
Flex
Medium Flex - A responsive flex that remains playful and forgiving enough for a fun ride that can handle any terrain.
Shape
Reclined Directional-Twin Shape - A directional twin shape with a slightly drawn out nose, perfect for on-mountain, backcountry, and deep snow performance.
Sidecut
UN3 Progressive Sidecut (Grip Tech) - Unblended tri-radial, better turning, initiation, stability. Grip Tech is a sidecut design that creates four additional contact points under foot for significantly improved, more direct edge control. The new contacts also create heel and toe pivot points that make turning faster and more efficient. Grip-Tech allows Arbor to offer a "True-Rocker" profile with powerful edge control, and thus preserve the full range of associated performance benefits. Grip-Tech also allows riders with larger feet (up to US men's 12) to ride standard width shapes.
Core
Shaman Core - Blend of renewable Paulownia and FSC Poplar wood, ultra-lightweight and durability.
Laminates
Mixed Glassing - A triax over biax lay-up that's best for versatile on-mountain and park riding.
Sidewalls
Rhythm Walls - An advanced blend of ABS and urethane; deliver durability and a clean, acoustically damp ride.
Bamboo Power Walls - Sustainable bamboo sidewalls deliver impact durability, edge performance, and crisp return.
Base
Rocket Base - A high molecular weight, wax-infused sintered base, unmatched durability and speed.
Edges
Recycled Steel Edges - Max edge durability and performance, made with 60% recycled hardened steel.
Topsheet
Bio-Film - Hi-gloss film, 30% bio-plastic, protects top while replacing biologically harmful clear coat.
Power Ply Topsheet - Sustainably sourced structural wood, delivers improved return, durability, and weight.
Additional Features
Karakoram Hardware - Karakoram splitboard clips optimize splitboard performance by firmly securing the splitboard halves together, eliminating slip in the seam.
Binding Compatibility
14-Pack Inserts - Provide a wide stance range and micro adjustability; max stance 24.5" / 62 cm.

  • Terrain: Powder, Splitboarding
    Powder
Powder snowboards love powder. Often associated with freeride snowboards, powder boards sometimes feature a wider nose and a tapered narrower tail. The binding inserts, which determine the rider's stance, are often set back on a powder snowboard to help the rider float the tip of the board through the deep stuff. Powder snowboards sometimes also feature rocker, a design element where the tip (and tail) rise starts farther back on the board, which also helps the rider maintain tip float through the pow.
    Splitboarding
A splitboard snowboard is built specifically for the backcountry rider. Splitboards are designed to break down into two separate halves for touring and uphill travel (with climbing skins). Special bindings are required as well. Once you've reached the top of the terrain feature, you reconnect your splitboard for the ride back downhill. However, it's important to note that you will need appropriate backcountry tools, knowledge of the backcountry, weather and snow conditions and climbing skins to safely take advantage of the freedom of a splitboard.
  • Ability Level: Advanced-Expert
    Advanced-Expert
Whether you charge the steepest lines, carve with race-like precision, hit the biggest jumps or halfpipes; advanced to expert level skis/snowboards are for the more aggressive rider. You will often find the addition of layers of metal, carbon, bamboo, or other stringers in these. These features work to make a stiffer ski/snowboard with more power and rebound.
  • Rocker Type: Rocker
    Rocker
A rocker board side profile is the opposite of a camber board, with a smooth downward curvature to it and less edge contact length when the board is weighted. Rocker boards float well in powder and pivot more easily underfoot. They also tend to be less “hooky” at both tip and tail and better for landing spin maneuvers when you don’t quite have enough rotation.
  • Flex Rating: Medium
    Medium
The amount a snowboard flexes varies significantly between boards. Snowboard flex ratings are not necessarily standardized across manufacturers, so the flex may vary from brand to brand. Many manufacturers will give a number rating ranging from 1-10, 1 being softest and 10 being stiffest. Here at evo we have standardized the manufacturers' number ratings to a feel rating ranging from soft to very stiff. Generally you will find flex ratings of 1-2 as soft, 3-5 as medium, 6-8 as stiff, and 9-10 as very stiff. Flex ratings and feel may ultimately vary from snowboard to snowboard.
