Burton Ion Snowboard Boot 2010 Review
Colors displayed in alternate views may not be available
Burton Ion Snowboard Boots 2010: Ridden by more Burton and non-Burton (shhh) pros than any other, the Ion has easily claimed more podiums, covers, and videos than any other. The proving grounds for the latest innovations, the Ion is built to adapt and destroy. The fastest, most adjustable lacing system locks you into the superior heel hold of a fully upgraded liner. The heightened feel of the EST midsole can even be fine tuned with Burton’s exclusive RX Adjustable Cushioning system.

  • Flex Rating and Fit:Flex: 8 (1 Soft – 10 Stiff). The Burton Ion Snowboard Boots are a stiffer boot perfect for backcountry pow slashes and riders who prefer a bit more support from their boots.
  • Construction:The dual-density design of the Ice Spikes creates a soft, grippy outsole enhanced with stiffer spikes that dig into ice when slipping isn’t an option. // Thin Profile 3D Molded Tongue - Adjusting the profile of the tongue’s thickness controls its flex, enhances its ability to wrap the forefoot, and reduces shell/liner stack-up for improved comfort. // Burton Imprint liners rock three different types of external support panels. They’re built using memory materials that, even after being deeply flexed, cause both the liner and shell to snap back into their original position.
  • Liner and Lacing:Whether you have funky cankles or a grotesque sixth toe, rest assured that your feet will be wrapped with comfort in Burton’s Imprint liner. While they fit great out of the box, you can even custom mold these babies to the shape of your foot with Burton’s EMU heat-molding system, found at your local shop.
  • Special Features:Shrinkage Footprint Reduction Technology reduces the boot’s overall footprint one full size, meaning a size 10 boot fits like a size 10, but has the footprint of a typical size 9. Shorter, lighter, and less bulky, with Shrinkage you can finally ride the board of your dreams.

Having just bought the lighting quick and ultra responsive Lib-Tech Dark Series C2 BTX, I needed a pair of high quality boots that could complement the aggressive needs of the new board.

I previously owned a pair of Burton Rulers, which served me very well. However, I have since taken my riding to the next level, and needed something a bit stiffer and more secure. The Ions fit the mold perfectly.

They are stiff and snug enough to handle very aggressive carving, while having a forgiving enough flex to play around in a freestyle freeride mode. These are definitely for the All Mountain Freestyler or the Freerider who wants some playfullness out of his ride.

Everything about the boot feels as if it is high quality, and that is probably because it is made with the highest quality materials. I prefer to buy snowboard boots a half size smaller than my normal shoe size. I highly suggest doing the same with these. It will be very uncomfortable for the first hour, but these will pack out beautifully.

One suggestion that worked very well: Find an hour to kill in order to break-in the boots. While watching an hour long TV show, I put the boots on with a normal gym sock. I tightened them 50% of normal and then squatted in a baseball catcher's position (of course only hold this position for as long as is comfortable). After ten minutes of periodic squatting, I tightened them 75% and repeated the squatting process. I also got into a position to stretch my calves in them. This helped loosen them a bit. It only took a few runs the next day to get comfortable. By lunch, I was able to tighten the boots completely with no discomfort.

By a half size smaller than your normal shoes size, because they pack out beautifully. Once these are fully broken in, they are amazing!

Like I said thought they'd be stiffer then they really are. Good for jibbing around on the groomers but I personally like a stiffer boot. Also found them uncomfortable lost feeling in my pinky toe everytime because they would flex so much in the toe box that it would cut off circulation. Not sure if I need to break them in more or need a half size smaller. Prefer my old Driver X's

Comments about Burton Ion Snowboard Boots 2010:

Got my Ions at the end of the 2010 season, so I've only used them twice. Love the speed lace system - it really does...well, speed up the process, and you get a snug fit.
It's a stiff boot, but they were surprisingly comfortable once I got my feet in, which was a bit of a challenge the very first time.
I'm an advanced rider who likes to go fast, and they give me great control of my new T6. No pressure points - they're just really comfortable and appear to be very high quality.
Only con thus far is I had to exchange them for 1/2 size bigger. I'm a pretty consistent 11, but needed an 11 1/2 in the Ions. Overall, a great boot!

Comments about Burton Ion Snowboard Boots 2010:

I bought these boots as it was time to get a new pair of snowboard boots and I had heard good things from friends about this model, the Burton Ion.I usually wear a shoe size between 11 and 12, so I bought an 11.5 of this boot and the boots couldn't fit better! First day on the mountain (a mountain in Tahoe) I was amazed by the performance of the boots. My board felt like a brand new board, as the quality construction and good boot fit significantly improved the control and stability I have with my board. Great boots all in all.

Comments about Burton Ion Snowboard Boots 2010:

Great Boots. Felt really good right out of the box and now that they are broken in the feel perfect. My only gripe with these boots is they lack the hook for the speed zone that makes the laces shorter when there on (my old burton SL9s have it). The speed zone laces are super long and even when I wrap them around my leg I have still had instances where they get hooked on my bindings when pulling my foot out to get on the lift.

boot ran about half a size smaller than other burton boots I've worn, not sure if that has to do with their smaller footprint. after I got the right size, wore it around the house for 2 days with my boarding socks and then took them on the mountain. felt great. great feel and control.

I have these boots paired with a 2009-10 Burton Custom X board and 2009-10 Burton Cartel EST bindings. I rode this set up with my old boots and what a difference the Ions have made. The stiffness of the boots adds a lot more reponsiveness.
